BARCELONASAINT Posted 4 December, 2008 Share Posted 4 December, 2008 Not seen this mentioned anywhere else yet. I heard on the radio this morning (WAVE) that we are about to make a loan signing of a 19 year old Everton defender that has played at International level for Englands under 19's. He is said to want first team football and we are lined up to sign him. Really sorry i didn't catch his name but i'm sure someone will have heard apart from me. trousers Posted 4 December, 2008 Share Posted 4 December, 2008 (edited) Lee Molyneux Profile Born: 24/02/1989 Nationality: English Position: Defender A left-sided fullback, Lee has also played in midfield. He is something of a set-piece specialist and proved it by netting a superb direct free-kick against Liverpool’s reserves last season. A naturally attacking player, Lee uses his pace to great effect to trouble the opposition. He has featured for England under 18s in the past. slickmick Posted 4 December, 2008 Share Posted 4 December, 2008 Hope this doesn't mean Skacel is dropped or sold as he's helped us a lot. Push Skacel into midfield hopefully. I would have been more excited if he was a right back. It worries me that James will be marking Ronaldo.
Alanh Posted 4 December, 2008 Share Posted 4 December, 2008 Hope this doesn't mean Skacel is dropped or sold as he's helped us a lot. The biggest issue I can see with us potentially losing Skacel is the loss of his experience at the back. If the new loanee steps into the position then we'll have three youngsters in the back line and for me that's one too many. On the other hand if selling Skacel helps keep Surman and Lallana then I think it's a sacrifice we've got to make.
DT Posted 4 December, 2008 Share Posted 4 December, 2008 So Skacel goes into midfield and Surman is offski. Sounds like good business, if you ask me. Hope he can defend...

Andy_Porter Posted 4 December, 2008 Share Posted 4 December, 2008 spoke to Rudi on Saturday night and he made it pretty obvious he'll be going. Would be first one out the door If I was manager. If losing Skacel means we can keep one of Lallana, Surman and Schneiderlin then it's got to be worth it. Hopefully this new left back can do a job for us. Chez Posted 4 December, 2008 Share Posted 4 December, 2008 first thing I looked for in the player profile text was pace. And its there. Fantastic. There are very few (if any) top quality fullbacks without pace. I'm interested to know if he has height or is decent in the air. Anyone know? Big Poppa Posted 4 December, 2008 Share Posted 4 December, 2008 Everton have just let Lee Molyneux join us... Everton have let 19-year-old defender Lee Molyneux move to Southampton, but the Saints look likely to sell two of their most promising young players just to pay the wages. http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/04122008/58/transfers-gossip-shop-villa-join-race-heskey.html More info on Lee Molyneux Full name: Lee Molyneux Date of birth: 24.02.89 Place of birth: Liverpool Position: Left–back/Left midfield Nickname: Moly! Chris Larkin Posted 4 December, 2008 Share Posted 4 December, 2008 So... Are we buying him, or is it just a loan for the rest of the season? Not sure I believe the Eurosport website when it says we'll have to sell Drew and Lallana for £2m each just to keep going in January. I find it hard to believe that they know any more than we do about the situation, and Jan has said that the club doesn't have to sell if it doesn't want to. Saint_clark Posted 5 December, 2008 Share Posted 5 December, 2008 Surely Skacel is on higher wages than Surman? Sure, Drew is worth more, but as Alpine says that is looking at the short term - selling Skacel and keeping Surman will save more in the end. Saint_clark Posted 5 December, 2008 Share Posted 5 December, 2008 I don't believe this to be honest, there is no way we would buy someone who requires us to sell another two just to pay his wages. Absolute bull.
Andy_Porter Posted 5 December, 2008 Share Posted 5 December, 2008 I would have thought Skacel would be the first one out the door if we could find a buyer. He's probably worth 500-750k and on big wages. And the Everton lad is on loan, I looked on an Everton forum and one of there ITK types said it was a loan deal. Would make sense to replace Skacel with him while Mills learns the ropes a bit and takes over for next season.

Long Shot Posted 24 December, 2008 Share Posted 24 December, 2008 Zee boysh will perform well in front of zee camerash. One of the points Crouch made at yesterday's AGM before it descended into farce and acrimony was that we had loaned too many young players and perhaps it might have been more advisable to have got in some more experienced hands. This kid maybe a good prospect but what we need right now is a bit of steel and a lot of leadership.

sidthesquid Posted 24 December, 2008 Share Posted 24 December, 2008 Is it just me that thinks Skacel is one of the biggest disappointments we have ever had. He arrived with such a reputation, but apart from occasional moments in one or two games he has never looked better than a journeyman Championship player. I wonder how many of those on here bemoaning the fact that he may well leave have seen him play this season. He's okay, but no more. His defensive capabilities, his crossing, his positional sense is no better than everyone's favourite boo-boy, Lloyd James, and personally, I think it's worse. I'd rather see Joseph Mills there. Mowgli Posted 24 December, 2008 Share Posted 24 December, 2008 Lets get a few things in perspective 1 Whilst I am not that keen on all the loans myself, given our financial circumstances, it is good way of having a serious look at a player before a big financial commitment. 2 Given that we cannot afford big wages, youngsters are always going to be more likely within our budget. 3 Even Crouch himself said that if he had held on to the club, he would have been forced to build a team around our academy players. 4 If you look at our best results this season (Brum in Cup, Doncaster, Preston, Reading, Norwich) they have been achieved with the lowest number of so called experienced players in the team. Disagree. He's one of the best crossers of the ball and is wasted at left back. Should be left midfield and utilised cutting in from there to shoot. He's been mismanaged by every manager he's played under IMO and a real shame. He'll move on in January I reckon and show what he can do at a club that likes to play him in his best position.
