Raise the Colours activists got behind suspects online enmasse for attacks like this on a regular basis https://news.sky.com/story/council-pulls-down-large-number-of-flags-after-racist-park-attack-13441679 Plenty of support was found online for these incidents too https://www.lbc.co.uk/article/lamppost-flag-campaign-founder-charged-murder-5HjdZt2_2/ and this person was arrested at the Unite the Kingdom March https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx217901n00o You could pull up examples of equal shittiness from the person at Aberdeen Uni, and some of the comments on Charlie Kirk at the time. I find it equally vile and a serious illness on our democracy. The reporting doesn’t help often either in terms of enciting grievance on either side of the extreme margins. Let's be honest. If Nigel Farage was killed by some lunatic you wouldn't get anywhere near the reaction that we got for the horrible murder of Jo Cox for example. Many people would be suggesting he deserved it and the media response would be mixed at best.

I thought they just said there was no evidence to suggest it was at that stage, or words to that effect. That obviously changes when they find evidence to the contrary and then they call in the anti-terrorism lot. Seems like standard procedure to me. Edited 21 hours ago by aintforever

I don’t think ‘many’ would be suggesting it would be deserved and is this just in your mind? 3

If Jeremy Corbyn or Zack Polanski were horribly murdered I genuinely don't believe there would be much in the way of celebration or playing down the atrocity apart from perhaps a small minority. I am sure there would be a significant amount of that though were it to happen to someone like Farage. Edited 10 hours ago by hypochondriac
rallyboy Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago I found Widdicombe to be a consistently offensive politician who went to great lengths to be really unpleasant to several sections of society. And I'm quite happy to laugh at some of the darkest things, but some 'jokes' that are doing the rounds are not actually funny - for instance, It's Hammer Time! 😞 Really? A frail old lady is battered to death in her own kitchen by a fucking lunatic, I'm not really seeing the funny side. 3

Hopefully it never happens but if it did, I would be extremely surprised to see a similar reaction (and tributes to mark the ten year anniversary etc.) I'm surprised that you would think that the general reaction in public, in Parliament and in the media would generally be the same. 1

I'm not sure what makes you think there'd be a different reaction to a brutal murder of a politician based on whether they're on the left or the right. I think this is a you issue. 1

We all know the answer, so let's stop with this 2 tier mourning bollox. 5

I can’t control what others think but I certainly wouldn’t be celebrating and I don’t think when it came to it that all bar a small minority of ghouls who I’d rather not share oxygen with. Farage has got a partner and kids, Jo Cox had a partner and kids. Hope the twat who made remarks online recently about Farage being shot gets prosecuted for hate. And let’s not even go there on all of the various vile and hateful posts by Reform local candidates. Edited 45 minutes ago by Gloucester Saint

A few braindead wasters singing Ding Dong the Witch is Dead which got on the radio. Specifically LBC. Probably no more than the Man City fans celebrating Bobby Charlton’s passing. Or people at Liv-Man U singing about Harold Shipman or Hillsborough. Proving beyond doubt that there are cunts on the right, cunts on the left and cunts at football grounds who don’t vote or have any idea about politics. Cunts on X or Facebook who wish cancer sufferers trying to fundraise for research to die (one of my friends received a string of these). There are a small number of cunts and trolls everywhere. Anyway, I’ve turned into @whelk and I can’t be stealing his mantle for efficient and effective use of the c-word. Edited 27 minutes ago by Gloucester Saint

You don’t do that unless you have a pretty strong cross-party, and non-political following. There must have been people voting for her who had never engaged with politics. We did in the early rounds because it was fun to watch. So this idea of a torrent of people gloating at her horrific murder is bollocks. Everyone I know is horrified of all stripes. Her politics are different but I liked her when I met her, a lot. Someone at work who met her a few times got on so well that they sent each other Christmas cards every year and their politics couldn’t be more different. If people want to find ghouls and plumb the gutter of social media, they’ll find them. But let’s not pretend it’s typical in any way of one ideology or another. That’s victim mentality. Horrific humans - that’s the common thread. Edited 29 minutes ago by Gloucester Saint 1
