I find it equally vile and a serious illness on our democracy. The reporting doesn’t help often either in terms of enciting grievance on either side of the extreme margins. Let's be honest. If Nigel Farage was killed by some lunatic you wouldn't get anywhere near the reaction that we got for the horrible murder of Jo Cox for example. Many people would be suggesting he deserved it and the media response would be mixed at best. 1

If Jeremy Corbyn or Zack Polanski were horribly murdered I genuinely don't believe there would be much in the way of celebration or playing down the atrocity apart from perhaps a small minority. I am sure there would be a significant amount of that though were it to happen to someone like Farage. Edited July 22 by hypochondriac
rallyboy Posted July 22 Posted July 22 I found Widdicombe to be a consistently offensive politician who went to great lengths to be really unpleasant to several sections of society. And I'm quite happy to laugh at some of the darkest things, but some 'jokes' that are doing the rounds are not actually funny - for instance, It's Hammer Time! 😞 Really? A frail old lady is battered to death in her own kitchen by a fucking lunatic, I'm not really seeing the funny side. 4

Farage has got a partner and kids, Jo Cox had a partner and kids. Hope the twat who made remarks online recently about Farage being shot gets prosecuted for hate. A few braindead wasters singing Ding Dong the Witch is Dead which got on the radio. Specifically LBC. Probably no more than the Man City fans celebrating Bobby Charlton’s passing. Or people at Liv-Man U singing about Harold Shipman or Hillsborough. Proving beyond doubt that there are cunts on the right, cunts on the left and cunts at football grounds who don’t vote or have any idea about politics. Cunts on X or Facebook who wish cancer sufferers trying to fundraise for research to die (one of my friends received a string of these). There are a small number of cunts and trolls everywhere. You don’t do that unless you have a pretty strong cross-party, and non-political following. There must have been people voting for her who had never engaged with politics. We did in the early rounds because it was fun to watch. So this idea of a torrent of people gloating at her horrific murder is bollocks. Everyone I know is horrified of all stripes. Her politics are different but I liked her when I met her, a lot. Someone at work who met her a few times got on so well that they sent each other Christmas cards every year and their politics couldn’t be more different. If people want to find ghouls and plumb the gutter of social media, they’ll find them. But let’s not pretend it’s typical in any way of one ideology or another. That’s victim mentality. Horrific humans - that’s the common thread. Edited July 22 by Gloucester Saint 5

I agree that most reasonable people wouldn’t say that buts it’s convient to say that when you might be perceived to have views on the same side of those on the political spectrum who are saying those things (to be clear I’m not saying you agree with them at all) . A close family member runs an office and they had to call out a junior member of staff who said he was glad she was dead last week and say they shouldn’t be discussing politics inthe office. Unfortunately those who are more politicised on the left, particularly the younger age group, seem to be stooping to lower levels than those on the right currently, which I would admit is probably an inverse from the past. One pilot jailed https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5yd7xz39k9o and another 19 year old pilot from Sudan charged. Get them gone on the day release and permanent ban from the UK. Even better, 25 boats and engines each seized at Felixstowe last week which would have carried up to 80 ASs each (and probably more given how reckless the smugglers are getting as the government crackdown is hitting them) https://www.nationalcrimeagency.gov.uk/news/25-boats-and-25-engines-destined-for-channel-people-smugglers-seized-in-major-operation-at-felixstowe I enjoyed seeing the photo of the Gendarme blocking a woman with a load of kids getting on the boat over there. 1
Gloucester Saint Posted Sunday at 13:10 Posted Sunday at 13:10 (edited) As for Berlin, the suspect was clearly known to the authorities and was made go through the equivalent of Prevent recently. Why on earth was he still roaming around? As he’s German born, he should have given two choices given he’d already tried to joined IS. 1) Stay in Germany in permanent incarceration as an enemy combatant 2) Leave Germany for Lebanon assisted, German citizenship and rights cancelled and permanent ban. Gloucester Saint Posted yesterday at 18:08 Posted yesterday at 18:08 (edited) This is shocking and pathetic from the Berlin judicial system. Juvenile? He’s a 21 year old trying to join ISIS. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cy9wv74qje9o Whilst the courts and probation have the odd brain fart here, this is much less likely to happen in the UK on terror-related suspects. MH is a different story. Ballout should have either in permanent custody as a high security risk or assisted to leave and go to Lebanon. Edited 11 hours ago by Gloucester Saint
