Wanyama. As expected.

But according to this so accurate account we have a gentlemans agreement with them!

Are we that naive after they have tempted away our manager and recruitment specialist behind our backs in the last couple of years

My understanding was we have a Gentleman's agreement with Victor that we would consider "good" offers for him this summer after blocking his move to spurs last summer. It's now up to spurs (or whoever) to make a good offer (what ever the club thinks that is).

We should refuse to sell to Spurs out of principle.

Why? What principle? If they're prepared to pay the right price then we should accept, if not then reject. Very simple and no need to act petulantly

So why did Frazer F say this morning that all three ex Celtic players were looking forward to European football with Saints next season then?? Media just panders to a few guys egos, e.g. Jose M and Zlatan, same as on here, trolls all of them!! get Twitter CEO on to them...

The report in the link above refers to a so called Gentlemans agreement with Spurs why on earth would we limit ourselves commercially we would surely sell to whoever gives us the best acceptable price

You and I must be reading different reports

Southampton refused to sell Wanyama last year but a gentlemen’s agreement, that the south coast club would listen to offers at the end of this season, is believed to have been reached.

Nothing to do with spurs as far as I can see other than they might make an offer

Problem is I guess is that he's not going to get into any of the other top clubs, Spurs is probably the only one.

I'm already resigned to him going, so if he stays its a bonus.

But they have Dembeli now so much less need of VW.

There was an article last summer about how the club was refusing to do business with Spurs because of their behaviour. That's the principle.

After last summer's Alderweireld stunt I'd be hoping that our "gentlemen's agreement" is just a load of absolute blather which we use to string them along and waste their time before selling him to Chelsea or Arsenal reserves.

The concept of having a gentlemans agreement with that lot is an oxymoron surely?

If there is any gentlemans agreement it's with Wanyama, just like it was with Morgan. Tbh I'm not so fussed about what we get for Victor - it's the good things he's done while he's been here that has been valuable.

Just really hope he doesn't go to North London ( but he probably will)

He won't go for as little as 12mil.

Not sure we can realistically get much more for someone with one year left on their contract and who won't sign another one.

We got less than £10m for Clyne in the same situation, despite the homegrown premium. He (Clyne) is probably a £20m player in todays market.

Surely won't get more than £15m for him so probably a similar fee to when we signed him despite his improvement and having demonstrated proven PL ability.

Apparently he prefers to be called Gana for a similar reason to Memphis not liking to be referred to as Depay.

I think, along with his impressive defensive stats, Gana has shown great mental strength and determination to preform well in a struggling side. His passing isn't the best, but he has solid technique and moves well with the ball. He's not the tallest though he does have a couple of inches of Clasie, so I don't know how well he does in areal challenges. Think he'd work really well alongside Romeu, as he has decent recovery pace which is probably Oriol's only real weakness.

We got about £12m but your point stand. I reckon we'll get about £15m for Victor.

I'm still not wholly convinced that Vic will be leaving this summer. I would say his penchant for getting silly red cards will go against him in the eyes of some previous suitors.

However if MoPo wants him, then I would be happy for him to leave at the right price, and if they wanted to include Mason as a part of the deal I would not object to that either.

I don't think any prospective Club for Vic (probably Spurs) are going to be put off by his red cards - only one of them last season seemed justified and reckless. I have to say that Mason as a part deal seems like a massive downgrade on Vic.

Mason? Have you learned anything from the Forecast deal?

Really? He may be a central midfielder, but he isn't remotely like a direct replacement for what we'd miss without Wanyama. Mason is 5 foot 9 and would be a big downgrade in quality.

If/when Wanyama goes I think the club will be looking for a similar style of player as a physical presence in central midfielder, Mason isn't close to being that at all. The club already has Clasie, S.Davis, JWP & Reed as smaller central midfielder, I don't see what benefit Mason would bring to the squad. I've never been particularly impressed by him.

Mason does not play the deep lying, destroyer role, so I would not see him as a direct replacement for Vic anyway.

I just happen to think that he has potential with the right coaching to play a decent AM position - As for the Forecast comment.. Come on give me a break !

If the offer wasn't more than £20m, rather than strengthen spurs or Liverpool, I would make him see out his contract. Probably worth several million in place money next season for Southampton. Accepting whats been quoted doesn't seem to make sense anyway for us!

Good point. At the very least, we should keep him until the January window and then take a look at our position. If we do sell him, it certainly should not be to a Premier League rival. Would Liverpool or Spurs sell key players to rival teams just above them? Better to sell him abroad even if it's for a bit less.

You seem to forget Vic and his agent will have a big say in where he ends up if and when sold it is not entirely in our hands as they need to agree terms

His form was outstanding after he left Spurs.

He got on the highlight reel a lot with goals but they still went down..I still don't rate him enough to come to us as a replacement for Mane but he's still young so might have him as a squad player.
