Christian Dailey finally? Asuming Size is good enough to fix many of our defensive issues where else do we most need to stregnthen? In the past we have all said defense and GB loaded the midfield. JP has been doing the same until Size turned up so just wondering if he will try to stregnthen in the area's we think need it or continue the trend and overload area's we dont need it. Saint Martini Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 Wasn't there a rumour that we had TWO Dutch players training/on trial over Christmas? We signed one and so maybe..... That probably was not Saeijs. In the week before he joined us he almost signed for ADO, I doubt very much that he was training with us at that time. Besides, he would have had a league match just after xmas.

ART Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 People on here were certain we'd lose everyone. Yet we've lost on loan player we expected to and who didn't want to stay. We've signed a big defender we needed, got a decent striker back and kept the rest. Still the prospect of more signings too. And are people happy? Are they ****. Sadly adriansfc there are still another 17 days of the transfer window to go. Anything can happen and before allowing players to leave it's surely wise to bring in their replacements. Lowe is very smart in this direction knowing full well if we receive some readies from sales it's going to cost us more to bring in players. It ain't over it that window slams shut and even then players could leave on loans.

You say Lowe is very smart in this direction but as a club we have in the past collected players while releasing very few and as such created a larger wage bill to hang round our necks. Not saying this is the case now but I think the club relied on a few sales last window that didnt happen and loaded up with lesser replacements. Only by luck that the sales didnt happen and we are now able to rely on some players that otherwise wouldnt even be here.
JustMike Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 a decent striker would be nice, someone that doesnt get pushed off the ball easily and can hit the net. We dont have trouble creating chances, just the putting them away bit.

We also lost a loan player that we had agreed to keep (Pearce), hence his replacement by Saeijs. Also lost some other loans that frankly were a waste of space (Robertson & the guy from Spuds), thought we were getting Dyer back (questionable whether good or bad) but saw him shipped straight out again to another of our rivals. In addition we seem to have also kept Wotton even though he had reportedly gone to Brighton. Its all been a bit bizarre to be honest, but apart from Saga's welcome return not much has really changed. Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 Dailly will sign this week Maybe the plan is to go from having the youngest side in the League, to the oldest, to see which performs best. If it is the latter, we will, no doubt, abandon our youth policy and return to Rupert's Secure Retirement days, to provide a place for ageing stars to have one last hurrah! IMO we still need to sign another CB/RB and a right midfielder (to allow us to play 4-4-2 when required). Andy_Porter Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 A midfielder who can tackle would be priority and maybe a right winger. Dailly would be a great signing for six months. Cover for right back, centre back and a decent midfielder to play alongside Schneiderlin and he would give us a bit of presence and leadership. Not really sure about who we could bring in for right midfield, I reckon Poortvillet will persist with Lallana on the right with Smith and Mcglaggon as cover anyway so it's not worth thinking about. If we signed Dailly on loan and didn't lose any players i'd start to fancy our chances of staying up.

labibs Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 I'd be very happy with Dailly in for 6 months. As it stands we only have Saeijs, Perry and Lancashire for CB's (I think Morgan and Wotton are midifielders really). What are we going to do when Perry needs a rest and Olly is seeing out one of his myriad suspensions? Back 3? I doubt we'll bring in another striker. If you take the forward and in the hole as two positions, we've got Saga, DMG, Paterson, BWP, Euell, Lallana and even Gasmi who can all play there. If we lost some of them then maybe, but as it is, I can't see it.

david in sweden Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 So Lowe's hope of leading us to the promised land via the Academy looks increasingly unlikely. Well ...I didn't think he was totally relying on the Academy lads.(!) Surely everyone appreciates they would have had better support -had it not been for Svensson (Injury) Euell (form loss) and our THREE goalless strikers ..........what a good job that Kelvin Davis held was in form. Had all the above-mentioned been regulars, and we had only 5-6 Academy boys each game I'm sure we wouldn't be in our present situation, instead of scraping the barrel to get a start eleven. Chris Larkin Posted 14 January, 2009 Share Posted 14 January, 2009 He can't leave now he has played for us, cant't play fro more than 2 clubs in a season or summit That's only when a player is transferred.
