Former Villa player puts in a shift against Birmingham.

Let’s see if he brings the same attitude to other matches. Based on what we’ve seen so far, I’m not holding my breath.

He must still really love Villa because it was like he was playing for them when we played at Villa Park last year.

Better option off the bench than Downs, that's for sure.

I’d expect a bit more for the money we spent, than his only redeeming feature being “better option off the bench than Downs”.

Then I feel like you might end up pretty disappointed

Think you’re probably right. I’m surprised some are enthused by his performance yesterday. In fairness he did bring a bit of needle to the game from a local West Midlands grievance and more willingness to run than often seen but no surprise he ballsed up his decent chance which his pace had helped create.

Didn’t do enough to take himself out of the ‘waste of money, waste of space’ category in my book.

Yeah mirrors my thoughts.  Fast, but that just means he gets to miss sooner than if he didn't have any pace.

I have to disagree because I saw signs that made me think he'll do much better under Tonda and we need to factor in that he hasn't played much.  I'd like to cut him some slack and see how he does in the next few games.

Based on a previously stellar goal scoring record?  He ran a bit.  He often does.  Its the rest he's no good at.

His lack of physical presence is a huge hindrance - same size as Arma but offers nothing against a CB. Mind blowing that we turned to him after missing out on Delap last summer, what on earth was the profile we were looking for if we ended up in that position - presumably ‘young and English’ was the only specification, couldn’t get two more different forwards.

Okay, let’s revisit this one in a few months.

How much longer do we give him?

He was anonymous when he came on today. I know Cov were playing a compact deep defensive shape by then, but he was appalling. Did nothing of any note whatsoever.

Despite very occasionally showing a decent finishing ability, he's been a truly dreadful signing so far. I thought he might fare better in the Championship than he did last season, but if anything he's even worse now having dropped down a level.

I'd be looking to ship him out at the first possible opportunity, personally.

We've totally ruined this lad, he had a decent enough rep at Sheffield United and Boro before that - but he's now a shadow of that player, looks L1 at absolute best - maybe lower end L1.

We'll do well to get rid, it will be loans until the end of his deal.

Adds more criticality to the need for us to buy an actual striker though.

My view has already been stated. The comment about revisiting it was in response to Saintant who suggested he’d seen something in Archer v Birmingham so was prepared to give him longer.

He was replying to my earlier comment:

Yeah I should have quoted both posts to make it clearer, but I couldn't be arsed.

We seem to be in agreement about being happy to never see him play for us again.

I don't think we're set up to get the best from him, but my god is he lazy. You would think he would have something to prove...

He ‘sprinted’ all the way back with the Oxford lad who got the winner. Very similar to azaz, makes it look like he’s trying but not arsed really

Its bizarre, is no one being coached to be more cynical?

He could have used his own brain and just taken out the runner and get a card instead of doing a fifa jostling impression.

I thought he was interviewing him at one stage

Or it was a work experience exercise in which he was shadowing someone at work, just to see how they did their job ie put the ball past the goalkeeper and into the net !

Probably of little benefit to Archer as he won’t get the opportunity with Bazunu in goal.

This bloke is absolutely pony. Horrendous. Why have a pony version of AA, I’d rather have kept Brenton Diaz, because although he was also pony, he’s bigger (as in physical), than this fucking bloke.

If we’re going to have someone running round doing fuck all, surely a bigger bloke doing fuck all would be better than a midget doing fuck all.

Agree. He scored a goal and suddenly he's good enough to start against Millwall. Could have told Eckert that single goal didn't turn him into a prolific scorer with a quality all round game. He is what he is and that is pretty poor.

And did it as a Villa fan at St Andrews.

Was it even his goal. If the championship had the same process as the premier league and opta was involved, I’m pretty sure it would have been taken off him and given as an OG. The championship just relays on the referee and club agreeing, without the ref even reviewing the footage.

Time to move in on if anyone will take him along with Aribo, Edozie and a loan move for Downs.

£15,000,000. Well done SR, you clueless cunts.

We will be lucky to get a 3rd of that back at this rate. More genius player trading from these clowns masquerading as football owners.

It was painful today. Missing chances, passes, weak physically, and although he put more effort in he's bereft of confidence. I don't know where he goes from here.

Think he just continues to be a squad option. He doesn’t need to be written off. It’s not all or nothing. He’ll play second fiddle to the form strikers and when we need a goal he’ll no doubt be chucked on and hopefully he can find a moment to contribute and change the momentum. The reaction to him being subbed off is poor though.

I have to agree with you on the last point.
It doesnt do any good for the player or the club if such negative feelings are transmitted.
That sad if he was a young lad coming on for his first game he could be given time but Archer and Downes, based on their involvement so far, amount to a complete waste of over £20m plus wages.

I could excuse the poor finishing if the rest of his game was decent and he was bringing other things to the table.

But he's an absolute mess at the moment.

Not often I agree with you but I do here, the fringe strikers always seem to get a hard time and be expected to just step in and deliver, he obviously can do it at this level if you read boro fans opinion of him they thought he was fantastic . I don’t think he suits leading the line on his own though and we haven’t really found a way to ustilise him to his strengths but jeering him certainly helps no one
