What, taking a picture of a receipt printer to show me where he was? Really?

Thanks @Farmer Saint. That’s about as top as top gets when it gets to its snippets, short of you posting a TikTok of DD shaking hands with Spors and giving Will a hug. Appreciated, nice gesture to a forum which can so often literally show no receipts. Here we have  the receipts! Kind of. Very nice work, please thank agent and no need but if you wish confirm it’s not a lack of discretion simply a show of something that’s already clearly in public domain so no harm done. 💪

No I’m sure it’s not - I used him as an example of someone that the managers might be talking about over there paid for by the club lattes.

I tendered my resignation from the CoT last January due to the amount of abuse aimed at us. What's the phrase, "don't bite the hand that feeds you".

I always thought it was just a piss take.  Are you saying it’s real? And if so, have you (or whoever it was) just dropped the agent in shit?

He's just pretending - he was fired, just doesn't want to admit it.

That article suggests Downes is in discussions with Rangers but I don’t see how they afford him?

Reports say Russ 'wants' Downes... but he ends up signing Rothwell.

There could not be a more perfect illustration of the difference between the speculation on who Rangers 'want', and the pool in which they are fishing in reality.

As I have always maintained, my stuff is real.

It's not dropping anyone in shit, I haven't mentioned who the agent is, or who the player is, or even which hotel it is, just that it's in Teddington.

Is it a player you expect to cook in the championship?

Yeah, what were we thinking. I'm sure the club won't mind a bit that this has been leaked.

That what has been leaked? It was on a printer in a public place.

The only bit of info of note from it really is the potential addition of Clement Lemaitre to the backroom staff. Which shouldn't really be top secret news that the club will be desperate to prevent becoming public knowledge.

Which part of that printed piece of paper (that could have been printed by anyone in the world), specifically stated that Clement Lemaitre is a member of the backroom staff?

Phew, very quick thinking!

Luckily no one quoted your post with the picture in it, otherwise there could have been big trouble.

Wait, what, someone did quote it? Uh oh.

I'm not giving clues - I resigned from the CoT - as @Turkish will attest to the abuse for giving information without getting agents in shit is so tiring.

We walk a tight rope all the time mate. Give away too much you risk someone’s job give away not enough you’re told you don’t what you’re on about. And we do this for them not for us! Some people have given up, the don’t bother anymore and you can see why!

I put up info once back on Saintsforever, same day as the 7/7 attacks, stupidly mentioned my source was manager of the Mick Channon suite.

They ended up forcing his resignation, luckily he moved on to better things. Luckily didnt affect our friendship. We were best mates from 2001 up until he passed almost 2 yrs ago, we were like brothers, best mate in the wholed wide world, miss the twat a lot. Still managed to get me inside info up until he went. I was a c**t back then on that day.

Exactly my point. You have to be so careful I got my fingers burnt a few years back sharing info that was passed to me and the club were able to trace the source back, luckily they couldn’t prove exactly who had shared it but They narrowed it down to about 4 people all of which were read the riot act hence why I’m very careful now

sorry for your loss, leaves a massive hole.

A few Twitter whispers that the David Brooks deal has been hijacked.

Lots of game time but I'm struggling to recall many times he excited the crowd. Maybe I'm missing something. Not saying he won't make it and hope he does.

My take on Dibling is that he had some of the world's top defenders scared last season. Watch back the highlights vs city as an example - Gvardiol doesn't know whether to close him down or stand off him, and either way Dibling completely does him a couple of times. That was the standout point for me - top class defenders didn't know how to defend against him and were scared... and it was repeated on multiple occasions last season. To be having that impact as a fresh faced 18year old in his first few months of senior football should be enough to set off the "this kid is good" klaxon in most fans' heads  - it certainly did for a lot of pundits and other clubs.

Although i’m not sure about him, the club obviously are and fair play to them for trying to get business done so quickly.

agreed.

Although thinking of it another way, it's not much more than what we've sold Tall Paul for, and I'd wager this guy looks better suited to the systems we expect to be seeing from Still (and Spors)

guess we'll have to wait and see

Was that the away game or the home one?  Only asking as it felt like there were two Diblings last season - pre and post Christmas.  I do remember he spent a lot of time defending in the home game and showed good positional awareness.

The last few years have been fraught with forward deals especially falling through at the end of the window. He may not be the 15 goals per season in the Championship striker a lot of us were hoping for, but yep, credit for getting it done as soon as possible.

I saw the "15 goals" and immediately wondered how many goals are typically scored by the teams in first and second place in the championship and then try to extrapolate how many the striker(s) needs to get, should we be playing one up front and two wingers....

The positives here are that we've got him in quickly and also that he's clearly the main one we want. Should be a good one to judge the new scouting and transfer group on given that on the face of it he doesn't seem like an incredible signing. Lets hope he smashes it.

Not sure it is really.

A few other forwards that have been bought in the champ...(rough fees as off transfermarkt)

Mike Tresor - €18m
Britt Assombalonga - €17m
Helder Costa - €15m
Ross Mccormack - €15m
Joel Piroe - €14m
Harry Wilson - €14m
Benik Afobe - €14m
Jonathan Kodjia - €13m
Isaac Mbenza - €13m
Andre Gray - €13m
Dwight Gayle - €12m
Jordan Rhodes -€12m
Tom Cannon - €12m

And plenty others....

I think its good business for him tbh. I like the look at him from what i've seen in the clips, and he is being bought to suit Still's tactical style. Its 10M euros which includes add ons - and its reasonable to assume those will be related to number of goals scored and promotion. So assuming he's a success it will be a good price for him and we'll be able to afford the add on's fairly easily, and if he's merely a bit meh he's a low risk signing. I also think people forget just how bad the general standard is in the championship - unless he gets injured he'll get goals. And if he gets regular playing time and a decent season under his belt then he'll likely develop quite nicely.

Some big money moves work out, some don't:
Tresor is more of a midfielder/winger and he missed all of last season at Burnley through injury
Assombalonga scored 1 in 3 for Boro, but had scored 1 in 2 for the club they signed him from (Forest).
Costa scored 6 goals in 60 odd appearances for Wolves, but he wasn't a striker to be fair.
McCormack worked out pretty well for Fulham scoring 38 in 89 championship games.
Wilson is more of midfielder.
Piroe scored 13 in his first, 19 in his second. Not too bad, but they don't seem sold on him.
Afobe had a Costa-like scoring record at Bournemouth. A complete disaster.
Kodija started well (scoring 19 in 36) but faded over the four seasons at Villa (29 goals in 96 games in the end). He didn't always play as a central striker.
Mbenza was more of a winger.
Gray scored lots of goals for Burnley in the one season in the Championship 23 in 41 games.
Gayle scored lot of goals for Newcastle in their promotion season - 23 in 32 games.
Rhodes was successful at Blackburn (83 goals in 159 games). A similar sized move to Boro was less successful and the one to Wednesday was a complete failure. The term "proven championship goalscorer" comes to mind...until the goals dry up.
Cannon scored 1 goal in 15 or so games at Sheff United last season.

It's just under 7million, even at Championship level that's not a huge amount of money.

Damion Downs looks ok as as back-up centre forward - but I still feel we need a starting centre forward.  We can't rely on Stewart with his injury record and BBD, Adarma and Archer are all second strikers or wide/inside forwards.

To add to the how much does a striker cost, Everton are in talks with Villarreal over their France Under-21 international striker Thierno Barry. The 22-year-old, who scored 11 goals in La Liga last season, has a release clause of €40m (£34.4m), but Everton are attempting to negotiate a lower fee.

Sunderland about to sign Petrovic (GK) from Chelsea. I wonder if that will lead us to stepping up our interest in Anthony Patterson who's been linked with us the past couple of transfer windows. Would represent pure profit from a PSR point of view for them and he's likely now to be back-up there which - at 25 - I doubt he would want.
