Although playing a goalkeeper on each flank would probably still be more effective than when we had BBD and Armstrong on the wings and no-one in the middle in that U-shape vs. Forest at home last season

If you watched the three play off games, the most important and highest pressure games at the level we are back at - you will have seen a very effective championship player. 

The most listened to championship podcast had him as the player of the play offs, so not just biased saints fans.

He looked out of his depth on prem.

I hope we are aiming for a better midfield so he is not a starter.

However, to say he wasn't effective in our last championship season is wrong, he played well.

Absolutely. If athletic or jiventus are in for fernandes then our best hope is to rinse them for as much money as we can. Good chance of 50 million plus in that scenario.

I'm not so sure. When House and Blackmore went over to see Solak, Solak said that due to the loans when we were promoted we had to spend millions to stand still.

Nah we won’t get that much. But it’ll be a great move for him and you wouldn’t blame him. Two great clubs playing in top European leagues and the champions league. Anyone would surely want that move

That’s top two for you - Taraabt produced it for QPR for example.

If he’s asking Shea and Flynn to do his pressing, tackling and intercepting, and a lot of his running which he can’t do in a central two (and we all know this), he has to be regularly winning games as the advanced midfielder if Fernandes goes as expected.

Taraabt was an arse but because he delivered the goods and the title, his fellow midfielders could live with it.

Loans are needed to get that level of player in thechampionship, unless you mean don't get promoted then we don't have to spend those millions again

Smallbone was a good player for us in the championship - not least during the playoffs. I am not against selling him and know he struggles at prem level due to his physicality - but currently we seem likely to sell Fernandes, Edozie, Smallbone, Aribo, and Dibling.... Who exactly are we planning on using as our attacking mids/wingers next season - fraser, AA and Robinson? We've seen one tenuous link to an attacking midfielder that frankly is far above our level, seemingly rejected us, and may be using us for another move or better contract.

Fall behind in early august and we're playing catch up all season - and that assumes we manager to get good replacements in for all these players. Hoping we see some positive news on the transfer front soon.

If we go for this guy (unless Stephens is off) seems pointless to have signed Quarshie, or more likely would mean we're also expecting to lose Harwood-Bellis and at least one of Wood or Edwards.

There was talk of us Wood leaving, and THB is still up in the air if we're honest.

This guy is a shoe-in starter in this league. In the right structure I'd rate him in the PL too.

Lots of ifs and buts, but...

Bednarek has already left. THB will leave because he doesn't want to play in the Champ.

ABK and Taylor will leave (hopefully, if we can find buyers) because we don't want them anymore and will tell them they need to find new clubs. 

Stephens, Quarshie, Edwards will stay, with Sanda coming up through the ranks. So that's three senior CBs and a prospect.

So IF * this was to happen then adding this fella would give us four senior CBs and a prospect which for a season of 46 league matches plus cup games is probably about right, especially if we want to have the option of playing three CBs. 

Agree it would be weird to sign anyone else in this position until THB, ABK and Taylor are definitely gone though, unless they're very well-advanced in the background and we just don't know it yet. And a move like this would probably mean Wood is on his way out too because if he stays then that would be five seniors and a prospect which I agree is probably too much.

Yeah, to be fair he looks good in the air, quick, decent on the ball, tackles well and can ping long passes with pin-point accuracy all day long - everything Stephens can't do.

if he develops a bug and can't make training (I believe thats the standard approach to trying to force a move), aka a "knock", then the club might have to reassess it's pricing policy. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

you also can't build a financial model by giving them away for buttons. There always has to be a middle ground. If we are demanding, say, £50m, which is pretty high, that could create a problem. Who knows what the clubs price is though.

Genuinely not sure how Dibling is going to engineer a move. I can't see anyone wanting to spend 35 million plus on him abd I don't think we are going to sell cheap. He'd be much better off trying to tear it up in this league with us for a season.

Ive said all along I can see us keeping one of Fernandes or Dibling UNLESS they make life very uncomfortable for us

Either one is likely a huge boon in the Championship, but like you say, think we’re in the driving seat as far as negotiations are concerned, generally
