Been hearing good things about this lad. Tearing it up in Argentina. 1 goal and 1 assist in last 6 matches which when you think about is better than Dibling. Has experience of the English league and could probably be persuaded to come if we stuck down £20m+.

Mike Keegan of the Daily Mail reporting that Birmingham have come in for Will Smallbone, likely to be a loan offer

OK, but have you ever considered that there simply isn't anyone available that is suitable?

It's an open forum, anyone else got any thoughts on a possibly striker on loan?

You could have said the same thing about the midfielders before we signed them. There are loads of players available who would improve us I am sure. According to Alfie House we haven't even been looking in that area anyway so it's all a bit irrelevant.

Would that mean we might bring in a new midfielder?

Doubt it, too late for that. Leo will be our only addition I'm sure.

Jelert can also play midfield and has done at previous clubs, so we do have some versatility in that signing.

So can Ronnie Edwards. I hope he doesn't go personally.

Aye? We signed Downs.

The only difference between some of the midfielders we have signed and Downs is that you've seen Downs and don't like the cut of his jib. Give it a few weeks and you may be saying the same thing about Jander.

Wonder if the Palace manager will walk?

He's been fairly adamant that the club 'must not sell' Guehi,

Well, they've accepted a bid from Liverpool and he's having a medical.

With 3 fit full backs (assuming Bree and Taylor go), I think he'll have his hands full a full back. If we sell Smallbone and Aribo (which could happen post-window closure) we need another CM to compete with the other 3.

Maybe so but at the moment I have no hard evidence to say they are worse signings in terms on initial impact as they haven't played.

The point is going into the season with a stuttering front line and goalkeeper feels like an unnecessary risk to take for me given how much we've strengthened elsewhere. I question buying potential in such a key position when what we really needed was the reliable quality of the calibre of an Azaz for example.

Ross Stewart is out of contract at the end of this year.

I'm surprised that they didn't decide, early on in the window, to make him available for sale or send him out on loan (to get a fee and wages off the book).

It might have made room for the purchase of an alternative - which so many on here have been saying they would like to see.

We've spent a lot more than £10.4M this window so not the most accurate of tables.

Aribo spent some time playing up front for Rangers didn't he?

If we don't shift him then he could be our secret weapon up top. He'll be like a new signing.

From centre half under Juric to revitalised attacking focal point, target man and goal machine under Still.

A modern day Paul Warhurst.

Not sure if this is anything new as this seems to have been the case for a while.  Though guess if the Leo move goes through he must be favourite to be off?

Also sounds like Bree is almost done.

I’ve no idea why anyone would expect another striker. We’ve already brought in Downs and Stewart, Archer and AA should have more than enough goals in them. Those are four options as good as any in this division.

On Smallbone to Brum, that is a better fit than Wrexham, a much more possession heavy team where his one touch passing can actually be used effectively, as we did in our last promotion campaign. As he’s in his last year of contract, are we going to extend to try and get a fee or are we going to lose a player valued at £7.5m for nothing?

With Downs, he did at least show us in pre-season what he's capable of with the right service. He made a similar run against Espanyol to what he's been doing a lot this season, but hasn't received the ball. It's the two reactionary shots that have let him down, which is a different skill to what he showed against Espanyol and I would also agree that his all round game has been a bit underwhelming.

But, the hope is that now with Fellows, Azaz, likely Scienza and Jander feeding him and our other strikers, the goal outputs from them will start to increase. We all love a new striker signing, as much as Newcastle love a number 9, but we have added a shit tonne of creativity this summer, in the last week and we could get greater goal output from our midfield, which we haven't had for a few years.

As fans we're fickle. It would only take Downs, Archer or A.Nother to find the net in a few games on the bounce and the perception changes quite quickly.

Still can now start to implement what he wants to do so lets see how it shakes out, there's always January if we reach crisis.

How the F*** can they ask for an extension. I know everything is bent their way but that really would be taking the piss.

Personally think we should could keep Ronnie edwards . Sure he hasn’t been great so far but he’s been playing a different system to the 4 at the back he was playing at QPR. QPR rated  him so highly there must be a very decent player in there and  he’s one of the more likely ones that could make the transition from championship to premier league

I think these options existed for Edozie about 3 weeks ago but not now, both those have strengthened in that area.

If we need to use the likes of Edozie or Aribo in our squad this season its hardly a disaster, probably the best quality 'deadwood' of any Championship squad!

Same applies to Smallbone who got 7 goals from midfield last time, not sure I would be in a hurry to loan that out to a potential promotion challenger.

Of course they’ll get it. The premier league brand needs it.

I agree we just need it to actually happen now.

If he leaves now i think there will be a general sense of frustration that he hasn't really had a proper chance to show what he can do.

So many fans behind me in the Northam slagging Archer off V Stoke. He is so obviously a confidence player and though only in glimpses (Arsenal, Liverpool) has shown that he is our most natural finisher. Get behind the lad and he should score 20+ quite easily this season now we have the creativity to feed him.

I hate to say it but all footballers are confidence players and the vast majority are also dumb enough to look at social media.

I know fans think they have the right to slag off players but nobody can pretend it helps make them better (but that's not a fans job is it, so that's ok). Tin hat back on.

Personally I think it would have been good to try and bed in our cbs with more potential like him quarshie and Sanda (gone on loan ) getting them nicely up to speed and devoloping partnerships  ready for the premiership has more benefit for the future then stephens. Not really sure where to fit Thb into all this he was pretty disappointing last season and I’m surprised he’s still here tbh

I,don't mind an experienced Cb in the squad. My question is if he should be a guaranteed starter every week. Particularly because he wasn't last time we were here so not sure what has changed.

THB when he’s fully back up to speed and playing in a back 4 that suits him best, will no doubt be one of the best CBs in the league. Recency bias from him playing in a 5 in the premier league with suicide tactics and then no pre-season is really affecting people’s views. For me 100% the first CB on the team sheet.

I quite like the idea of seeing THB and Quarshie in a 2 with Mads and Jelert alongside. But, of course, Captain Jack cannot be left out as we all know.

Just had a look at the squad size and it looks like (Provided Bree and Taylor get confirmed) we are down to 27 ish dropping further if we lose Edozie, Smallbone, Aribo and Edwards.

Really good job slimming the squad down.

That is mental.

Contingent on different windows and time zones (Edozie, Aribo esp) it could be a net 13 gone even with 9 in. Needed to be with the sheer size of the squad. When they can’t fit in one changing room that tells it’s own story.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but the Belgian window remains open for another week if Edozie doesn't head out today

This is what confuses me: when I slam my windows shut I can't get in OR out, my neighbour's windows are an irrelevancy!

Unlikely that Scienza was on a/c from Munich as he was reported waiting at Stuttgart Airport around one o'clock for a flight to UK.
