Incorrect. Your definition of “rivals “ and mine may differ - you may count only Ipswich and Foxes maybe Leeds as such - but I think it’s more logical to consider every Championship team a rival. You get same number of points for a win or draw whoever it is.

By that logic, every team we will ever play against is our rival.

A rival is someone you are of similar ability to and you want to surpass. I don't consider the likes of West Brom, Coventry, Boro, Norwich or whoever else rivals for that particular season - because we had an extreme amount of financial muscle and better players on average than everyone except Leeds and Leicester. Ipswich of course were also rivals in practice because they ended up performing at a comparable level to us.

In regards to your remarks about the unbeaten run giving the opportunity for us to reach the play offs, obviously if you pick up points consistently you will be in the mix at the end of the season. But the trouble is that we were (afaik) aiming for automatics, and if we weren't then we should have been. We had the squad for it. If we had not been unbeaten and instead lost more and won more, we would have been in a better position. It takes 3 draws to equal a win, and doesn't help your GD much either.

Manning now surplus to requirements. 🙂

Maybe it's worth registering WS so we can sub him on 😉

Did Ruud Gullit ever sub himself on to take a free kick?

So Will tells the team that that are "hopefully" aware of the importance of this derby game.

"Hopefully" - Will, it's your job to tell the players that they will give it their all otherwise it's a red hot poker up their arse!

That’s disingenuous. He was at pains to stress how much the game meant to the fans and everyone at the club and talked about how they have even had club legends coming in this week to drill it home even further to all the new recruits, of which there are a lot. It’s obvious they all know how much it means and know how important it is to win on Sunday.

Get a grip. These are proffesional athletes not fans. Play the emotion game we play into Pompeys hands. We need ice veined bastards not emotional cheer leaders and i hope this is what Will Still is cultivating.

Things we learned from the press conference: Will Still calls Ross Stewart 'Roscoe'.

Now 'Breezy' has moved on, who have we got left whose nickname (the one they actually get called by the staff, none of this Loch Ness Drogba nonsense) is known?

I know Martin had one for everyone, but Still seems more selective on whom he bestows the honour.

Arma, Macca, Wee Man, Welly are definites. There was a Longy in there yesterday for George Long, and I think I've heard a Ryno/Rhino for Manning and a Stevo for Stephens before but these rumours are unconfirmed at this stage.

Any others? I think it's important.

I think:

Jelert - Elly

Wood - Woody

Unconfirmed:

Jander - Jandy Pandy

Football Martin has a short chat to Will Still.

Summary.

  • Love being here, it is really good. Infra at the club is just great. It is very exciting
  • Results have been frustrating, we should have a few more points now
  • I knew it would be a tough start after a difficult situation last season
  • But that is just human. Some players were beat so much last year and we have see what winning looks like
  • Knew it would be a massive chunk of work, but I love it and I love football
  • Wrexham win, and the way it happened, was unbelievable.
  • My vision is to just win games. We have to outrun the opposition, and at a higher tempo
  • We have pushed the players hard, and more so during the break. Some players have struggled
  • That is the point, for this to work they have to break through the comfort zone and show commitment
  • Only been here 2 and a bit months, and we will keep at it. It is fun, work in progress
  • The transfer window as a whole was a massive challenge. Last season was still felt by all
  • The changes, people in, people out, sometimes you dont know who is at training the next day. It was hard
  • Very please the window is closed. We now have a squad that is highly competitive
  • This is a massive club so there has to be competition, and all know the squad will win us things
  • It was vital to bring in champ experience. This league is a different experience. Fin, Tom and Shea coming back
  • I came in, heard about the players, but if players put in a shift, like Fraser, you will be a part of this.
  • Matt Le Tiss, Franny, Beattie have been in and around the building. They told us how important this game is
  • It helps our massage, this game has to mean something to us as a team.
  • We need to pick up points now, have a go at it, be demanding. This game is a good opportunity to start
  • We have to be at it, we have to be flying. I love it, this is what football is about. I will love it if we thrive off it
  • You can't ignore the noise, even in Sainsburys  people will ask you about this game. It is amplified over here
  • I love these big game, but we have to get the basics right, be reasonable with the emotions, but we look forward to it
  • Teams over here are much more athletic, better footballers in squads, and have to be consistent
  • It is similar to the Ligue 1, physical, high tempo, so I am not phased by it.
  • The number of teams and games is relentless over here, and we need to enjoy more wins
  • I start work about 0730, chat with the team. Breakfast, team meetings. Players warm up etc then train
  • Always something to do, videos to look at, training to prepare or review. Try to switch off at home
  • Have moved into my house with the wife, this is a beautiful part of the world, and nice to be together
  • We try to play tennis together, but always thinking about football. Nice the wife gets it.
  • The wife loves it, she has been to every game so far, and that is just so nice. Ideally, we stay here for years
  • Ultimately, to stay we have to win and win consistently.
