How the fuck do we continually let in shit like that. Was there that much of a deflection for McCarthy to suddenly forget he had arms. I’m going Baz next week to palm one to the centre forward then McCarthy the week after, rinse and repeat. I was behind the goal, he was on his way down when the ball looped over him, not a chance in hell he could have got to it. 7
StrangelyBrown Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago I thought there were a lot of positives today. Fellows looks class. Azaz looked good apart from a couple of dodgy moments and a glaring miss. Wood and Quarshie are clearly our best CBs and Edwards looked much more comfortable than he had done previously. Charles is an absolute gem. Unbelievable that the snake oil salesman thought he wasn't good enough! Jander looked much better with Charles than Downes. Other attacking players were a bit hit and miss. Armstrong is still pretty brainless - holds the ball far too long and can't help but shoot straight at the keeper most of the time, but his work rate was fantastic. Stewart led the line better than anyone else has done this season albeit in a bit of a shambolic way at times. Scienza wins free kicks but does little else. Robinson didn't do much but didn't get many minutes. On the negative side: We look short of confidence in front of goal. It was a shame that Still didn't realise that Manning had run out of steam in the second half - he looked absolutely knackered. McCarthy just isn't good enough - if only we could bring Ramsdale back... Overall things moving in the right direction, but not fast enough for my liking. 1

Not sure what McCarthy did wrong today, apart from missing a ball in from a corner.. 3

To be fair to McCarthy he didn't have a lot to do. The deflection on the shot for their goal did for him.

He "bazzed" a shot into the nearest striker and some how got away with it, flapped woefully at a corner and conceded the goal (which admittedly I haven't seen properly so I may be being harsh). Other than that he was tidy enough but didn't really have to do much (or do anything good either). We could do with a keeper that in occasional difficult moments pulls something out of the bag and we have that in Ramsdale who is busy warming Newcastle's bench... 2

I recall him parrying a ball right to a Boro player. But we only worry if Baz does it. Overall, McC deserves to stay in goal mid-week. 3

He may have got lucky with the "bazzed" parry, but you could argue that he actually got enough on it to get it away from danager. He parried it at a fair lick, so not sure the Boro player had much time to react to it. We restricted them to next to nothing in the end, so i think defensively we were a lot more solid. 2

Don't get me wrong, he was better than Baz would have been in the same scenarios, but that bar is pretty low. But yes he did make us more solid. And in general from a defensive point of view having players at CB who actually defend proactively made a huge difference - yes the may make occasional mistakes but at least they don't watch the ball and just simply point at each other when things go wrong.
Willo of Whiteley Posted 54 minutes ago Posted 54 minutes ago I left the game today disappointed not to have won, Middlesbrough didn’t exactly create much, but they were there for the taking, we broke down their back five with ease multiple times but just didn’t shoot on occasion when we had the opportunity or didn’t take the chances we did get. Result aside I actually left the game pretty happy. That was a much more encouraging performance. It was encouraging to see that the manager has no hesitation in dropping players that aren’t performing either, that’s a big tick in the plus column, and the fact he did that and gave us a better performance should get fans onside. We just need to start putting points on the board. 4
Convict Colony Posted 30 minutes ago Posted 30 minutes ago Am too lazy and about to go to bed but how many wins have we had in the league since last sept. Are we playing a new style of football where the object is to never win ! 1

All the real excitement is in the shifting player values against the market, in SR's database trading model. 1
Saint86 Posted 8 minutes ago Posted 8 minutes ago (edited) I feel like we are seeing progress. But its taking a while for them to click, we've got tough games atm (do well to take anything from Wilder's Sheffield away). Fair play on him for dropping Stephens and THB. Thought fellows, AA, woods, and Quarshie all had pretty strong games all in all (although the CB's did lose their man for the goal - not helped by the decoy runner being offisde and them appealing for it). In some ways, maybe this tough run of matches is going to hone the team - but we'll be looking for Reading McDermot style run to get automatics if we don't start winning soon.
