Which in the current circumstances for Saints probably not for the best!

I bet Coventry wish they appointed some fucking unknown from a minor foreign league to show how fucking clever they are rather than an English ex-international who is respected by all those in the game, has a bit about him and has the instant respect of the players. They’ve dropped a major bollock there. Rasmus is probably incredulous at their rank stupidity. Sports Republic won’t be making that mistake. 1 3
JohnnyShearer2.0 Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Rasmus probably had Vitor next in his blackbox. In fairness to Lampard, he's done a lot better than I expected. Definitely the season to take advantage in terms of promotion given the current state of the three relegated teams.
Greenridge Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago (edited) Just endured his 10 minute press conference. His avoidance of the four or five questions Blackmore posed on his position certainly hints that the job is his to lose. He gives old Claudey a run for his money in the interesting stakes. Hopefully he sends the team out with a little more enthusiasm. Edited 23 hours ago by Greenridge 1

S-Clarke Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago (edited) Dusic/Saint_Charlie is a proper wum by the way, not to ruin his fun - but everything he's been saying about the managers is trolling and trying to wum people. Pay no attention, and just laugh at it. Have a look through his post history, he's even at it during the transfer windows linking us with players who retired 20 years ago. Sorry for spoiling your fun Dusic. Anyway, as expected we lurch into Charlton with an even weaker first team coaching setup than we had against Wednesday, and given that they've had the entire international break to sort that is quite something. In essence, the first team is being coached and managed by the entire U21 cohort, there is no remaining senior coaches at the club. We are being coached by Ben fricking Reeves and Jimmy Newton who have forever been with the U21's. It's a mess. The club try to dress this up as being 'calm and relaxed about the situation' - but this is a fucking mess. How a club with the finances we have this year, and the money we've spent, have ended up with the entire incumbent u21 coaching team managing the first team in November, in a season where promotion was required, is nothing short of horrific. Fuck off SR. Just go. Nothing will change my view ever. Edited 10 hours ago by S-Clarke 11

BARCELONASAINT Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago So if MLT is to be believed it was something like 150 applicants for the managers job and yet we have still appointed no one. Now that either says that it was 150 complete waste of timers that never stood a chance in the first place or there was just a very small handful that were worth interviewing but none really stood out of being able to make any difference to what we currently have! I have to say that looking at what was available i'm really struggling to see who we realistically should have appointed? I have no idea what the plans are going forward and only hope there is a plan and they are just playing the waiting game with someone in their sights. Some will say what was the point of sacking WS if we had no one lined up. Well i would say we have 6 more points than we may have achieved if WS had not been sacked. The players had stopped playing for him apart from 1 or 2. It might have been a small difference but there was a difference in effort from the players in the last 2 games that had been missing, so sacking WS was the right call at that moment in time. I think todays game will tell us a lot about our bunch of misfits and if they are playing for Eckert. 1

He needs to make sure he carries out Rasmus's tactics and formation as instructed and keep our superstars like Stephens, Manning and Armstrong happy. It's a balancing act few are going to be capable of as witnessed by Will Still recklessly dropping his captain and star 'keeper and losing his job despite playing regulation Southampton-ball. 1

Sports Republic have one plan and one plan only, make money. And so far we are making money from player transfers and parachute payments so plan is to get a cheap young manager and hope we can sell him for a profit too. You can view the club as one big market stall with one goal in mind. Who cares how we play or what we do. As long as we make a profit through player sales and match tickets. So when it comes down to a new manager, look at the manager with the most potential, the cheapest and young. Russell, Still, Selles and now likely Eckert, all young and except of Russell all free and likely to be on a lower wage. So low risk and if one works out and is sold to another club, bingo.

It gets even clearer by the day to me. Lallana is going to manage the U21's. If Eckert fails, they'll let him fail over a long period of time before acting, and then act by saying they had no choice and he'd likely be sacked - similar trajectory to Selles and Rusk, it will be no difference. We'd then get your Mowbray sort in to stabilise into the summer, and go through another round of charades then. It will follow an almost identical path to everything which has gone before.

The worst case scenario is a set of average results over the next week which SR feel empower them to appoint Tonda permanently. In the long run it’s almost better if this week’s results force SR to look elsewhere.

Bloody hell, I lived in Verl for two years back in the late 80s. It is a small town (pop. now 25,000) with a tiny stadium. Yes, SC Verl have made good progress over the past 15-20 years but none of that is down to their current manager, and they remain an amateur club punching well above their weight. It would be equivalent to appointing the manager from (say) my local club now, Weston-Super-Mare. In other words, a very long-odds, hopeful punt.
