This is SR’s Glenn Hoddle moment…

Alfie House says he’s not well liked within the Club hierarchy, to be honest I’m surprised by that as I always thought SR wanted to keep him but we were so bad in the PL that it wasn’t credible…

They’ll lose 50% of the fanbase if they bring him back. Plus the players who probably want him back are the most unpopular with our supporters.

Yep ditto. That would be truly curtains. Bowing to the likes of THB, Manning, Downes and Bazunu. That’s not a club I could ever support.

To be fair, by the end I think even Russ had realised Bazunu was crap…

Sure Will Still is gone but there's nothing to celebrate today, no reason to be hopeful. I say this because the lunatics are still firmly in charge of the asylum. Will Still is the latest manager who will be paid off and made to sign an NDA meaning the truth of what really goes on behind the scenes at this football club remain shrouded in mystery which is just how SR like it. Until they are gone it matters not a jot who they appoint as manager because the shit show will just carry on. A sad state of affairs that has gone on for way too long but is set to continue.

Alfie House on TSP:

Russell Martin isn’t well liked by the hierarchy anymore and he doesn’t think much of the board either.

It won’t happen.

Good. That’s something at least.

No he didn’t, Baz did his Achilles in the warm up ironically v Preston.

I know that but he also spent £30m to replace him rather than wait for him to regain fitness…

For me, we need a complete cunt of a manager. Somebody to lay into this squad and ruffle some feathers. They've gotten away with minimal effort for far too long

After McCarthy was given an explicable new contract. Who knows tbh, just another weird sequence of illogical events and decision making by SR.

If he really was being told who to play and what formation to play, I would love it if he said bollocks to the pay out I'm going to tell the fans exactly how this club is being run.

I think the fan base was more vocal at the time of Hoddle and it got back to the club in no uncertain terms.

But SR will not appoint someone like that because such a manager would also ruffle their feathers - the last thing they want.

Adkins.

He has failed everywhere he has been since he left us... 13 years ago. He isn't what we need.

Agree but how many of us would pass up the money just to tell the truth?

This is sad but true.  I absolutely loved Nige but it would be mental.  He's also too nice for this crop of players who need a massive kick up the arse.

Christ... does every single thread on here have to include a pop at Bazunu, even when he’s nothing to do with the topic?! 🙄

Actually embarrassing people are wanting Adkins back just because he did well for us in a completely different era. Are our fans really this naive? In his most recent job, he was fired from league 2 Tranmere due to poor results.

As much as I loved him, Football has moved on now.

Experienced manager

Knows his way around this league

Not frightened to speak his mind

Would probably fancy the job

It's got to be time for Ian Holloway !

Agree with the comments that we need someone pragmatic to bang heads and get some results. Would also have the effect of forcing players out who dont like it. Someone really single minded.

Cant see it happening though

Let me live in the hope that SR fucks up their next appointment, and hires someone who isn't a yes man, and accidently gets someone good...

Mark Robins for me. Would he come here?. Maybe if we doubled his money

He would’ve 100% come here before getting the stoke job, no chance now. It’ll probably be common knowledge by now among managers as to what a circus it is trying to manage this club. A poisoned chalice

Southgate & Carsley would be my choice. One as DOF and the other as Manager. Unrealistic I know, but it's what we need. Southgate would sort out the culture of the club from top to bottom. Outside of this, Bo Svensson is one to keep an eye on. We were interested in him before, but after great things at Mainz, he's fallen away a bit. Whatever happens, nothing will change over night. We need a big character in to pull us away from the drop.

Some really lazy names being thrown out there by the media, bookies and our fans -

Martin - not happening

O'Neill - would be suicidal from SR

Hasenhuttl - not happening

Adkins - wise up fs

Lampard - no mission he's leaving Coventry with them sitting pretty

Was thinking Steve Cooper, but didnt realise that he took the Brondby job in September.

There arent many attractive options right now. We might want to buy our time with the international break coming up again after next weekend. Somebody better might become available by then, but its a risk

So somebody really good who's just been sacked. I can see SR going for a strategy like this...

A hint perhaps

Blackmore wouldnt know.

Could be an obvious option though with his Championship experience, would be respected by the players and most importantly is available now.

Somebody else actively looking a job and ticks some of those boxes is Steven Gerrard. Some of our fans might not like it, but beggars cant be choosers and hes coached much bigger teams than us

I don’t see us getting someone who is in a job already. We’ve done it before but I can see us going for someone out of work, and accepting that the llama and Trollope ore part of the package.

Pretty much what I’ve said for weeks, couldn’t agree more.

Everyone calls for Will Still’s sacking but most fail to come up with any realistic candidates.

It’s slim pickings out there unless SR pull off a masterstroke of an appointment.

But we all know they won’t.

Just what I was thinking. So another left field appointment incoming. It's like a nightmare we can't wake up from. Nurse!

It will be someone mentioned already, Carrick probably, won't be exciting at all though.

My left field and highly unrealistic (and definitely not what we need given our current predicament, but an interesting profile) shout is Damien Duff, who is also currently unattached having worked wonders at Shels in Ireland and coached at Celtic.

I reiterate though, not what we need now.

The most interesting names linked are those already at Championship clubs. Lampard and Robins in particular. But, they'd be foolish to leave their stable clubs at the top of the league for us, purely because of money. Koeman left us for Everton for more money and although he's had a fantastic career since, his time at Everton was a failure. Would be a backwards move for them. Nathan Jones left a stable Luton for us, and although we offered him more than just money, he had to restart his career back in League One.

I don't think Hasenhuttl would come back under this ownership. They killed his passion for the game during his last season after that team they assembled after he finally got investment. He looked defeated every match and like he wanted to be sacked, took two years out. He's been burned by Sports Republic before, he knows they're all words.

Brendan Rodgers is also too old school for this board. He also falls out with a lot of senior figures in his recent jobs. Look at Celtic most recently. He'd fall out with SR very easily, selling his best players every summer and replacing them with mediocre development projects.

Nigel Adkins also isn't the man we need right now. He's not that commanding figure, yes he has a legacy here, but he's not the authoritarian that we need and lets not tarnish that legacy. He had the perfect good cop bad cop combo when he was here. Adkins was the good, motivator and Andy Crosby was the disciplinarian. But, Crosby's in full charge at Tranmere now.

Yes, we did need a change as our performances have been dire this season, and I think a few players have been mismanaged. But, the potential candidates is a grim list.
