The League Cup match in 2003. Very much Beattie’s night. Some proper trouble before the game. Their fans disgraced themselves during the Ted Bates ‘silence’. Stupid of Lowe not to wait to the Charlton game but neanderthals will be neanderthals. It was a national talking point and brought them a lot of shame.

As I live in Botley, train home would be much more convenient, quick and direct (especially if we lose).

But what's the score if you don't get back on the bus, guess there's fuck all they can do about that after the game?

I know it was the Carabao Cup and not the league, but it feels like the absolute twatting that we gave them in their oh so intimidating shed a few years ago often gets overlooked.

4-0. Macca had a great game, Ings ripped them to shreds, Cedric knocked one in and then Redmond delivered the KO.

Some quality finishes that night.

They say if doesn’t count as we were two divisions higher, but can’t wait to bleat about that FA cup game in 2010 with a squad of players they couldn’t afford to pay.

Not at all it was amazing and have lived off it the last years, I just got thinking about the league. Seems to be we win at home and lose away, until the last season we played them in the league in our promotion season and their relegation, and this season. Last 3 have been a draw, will something give?

I've thought a lot about this and I wonder what they'd actually do if people broke out of the 'sterile area'.

Is there actually a crime they could charge anyone with? Would they show common sense and let people out in an emergency?

It's not been an issue so far due to every game being a draw so they've not had to deal with an angry away support but surely at some point there'll be a few who try it.

Back in the early 2000s, I studied at Portsmouth University. I lived in Fratton whilst I was there and often wore my Saints shirt out and about. Never had any issues whatsoever. I had a part time job and on Saturdays we used to listen to the football on the radio and we had loads of banter about the scores, all in good humour.

My housemate worked at the Ladbrokes next to Fratton park and was on good terms with Steve Claridge because he saw he daily placing his bets 😂

When you were there, you didn't happen to see a fella covered in bananas, did you? He said he went home from Fratton covered in them, but he didn't say whether he taped them to his clothes or just balanced huge bunches of them on top of his head. If they were hanging down in front of his eyes, it would explain why he couldn't see all the Saints' shirts in Portsmouth, especially the yellow away ones.

What an experience that was, my first derby game as a 16 year old. The buzz of Beattie scoring right in front of their lot, infront of us in the Northam. The only other bit I really remember was the relief of getting the late penalty to get it over the line.

Thought I’d look back at the lineups, no fucking about with 4 subs on the hour mark in those days:

Southampton: Niemi, Dodd, Lundekvam, Michael Svensson, Higginbotham, Fernandes, Delap, Telfer, Marsden (Prutton 75), Beattie, Ormerod (Delgado 84).
Subs not used: Blayney, Anders Svensson, Pahars.

Portsmouth: Srnicek, Zivkovic (Foxe 83), De Zeeuw, Stefanovic, Taylor, Stone, Smertin, Faye (Sherwood 75), Berger, Sheringham, Ayegbini. Subs not used: Wapenaar, Primus, Schemmel.

Just realised that this is on Sky sports+ but not on "actual" Sky. Apparently having 2 channels each for the WSL and PL is more interesting....

I don't have sky on my TV, but I do have a log in for SkyGo, so I can watch Sky via my Playstation (or phone/iPad) but as far as I'm aware, cant access red button services through Sky Go.

I know I can get Sky sports+ in the Sky Sports app on my phone or iPad, but does anyone know how I can watch it on my TV? Annoyingly you can't cast things from Sky to a TV...

You could try and use a USB C-HDMI adapter cable from your phone to the TV

This is a season defining game. Win this and we look up the table and think it's possible to still make the play off places. Tonda's forgiven for his recent poor performances and confidence is sky high. Lose and...nope, not worth thinking about.

Sounds like it'll be a draw.

A whole generation of those wankers haven’t even seen them score a goal against us, by the way.

The two home wins against them that season were as comfortable as you can get they barely laid a glove on us, much like their fans before the game, despite a lot of talk they shat themselves at the first sign of any opposition. The game down there was disappointing though, should really have got a draw when Phillips Shot came back off the post.

the following season they were much more confident as were were in decline then but still did them twice at home, let’s not mention the game down there

Bloomin' heck - what's with it with all these 12.00 noon kick-offs? - that's 4.00 am in the morning for me.

This team not worth the effort...although I'm hoping with Stewart and Charles back this could be the start of a revival...

spoke with a couple pf skates today at the afc porchester game and they acknowledged our better quality, admitted they had injury problems but still felt the 18,000 baying crowd would see us wilt. i smiled. that smille grew when I heard Murphy is injured.  Looking forward to it.

My main concern is this team barely has a pair of bollocks between them. And they belong to Scienza.

I've seen too many indifferent performances from these players (including in the last derby) that I struggle to believe they'll suddenly start showing passion and fight tomorrow. Neither Will Still or now Tonda Eckert strike me as managers capable of getting the players fired up.

I don't think Eckert will ever get the fans back on side if he doesn't win this game.

The Sky coverage is going to be vomit inducing. TCWTB and the "wonderful" "passionate" support will be mentioned constantly. Just make sure that the sick bag is handy.

Oh no - I didn't realise that as I assumed Sky or ITV (again) would be up for showing a derby game on a quiet January midday on a Sunday.  Anyone know if any of the pubs in town are showing it?

My first derby.

Nothing will beat Lamberts equaliser in the cup though, for me that’s the loudest and best sound when we’ve scored there’s been at St Mary’s.

This game is not about the derby its turned into can Saints players play football two games in a row, albeit basic football. And can we compete on the pitch.

Its irrelevant skates have 3 key players out as Saints have been playing with 10 players not turning up.

Win and yes it will kick-start a very slim chance of 6th

Lose and we have handed Pompey safety from relegation.

Perfect opportunity for the players to start repairing some broken bridges with the fan base after serving up absolute shite for the last 15 or so months.

Will they take it? I doubt it.

Oh to have a team half as good as that again. By no means world beaters but, fuck me, this current lot (bar Scienza) aren't even worthy of polishing their boots.

It's a shame as tomorrow should be an event, but the only emotion I have about it is pure apathy.

My problem is I don’t trust this group of players save for about 4 of them.

I’m hopeful but not confident we can rely on some of this lot.

I’m praying they prove me wrong!

Coming off of Nights for this. Debating on getting home, having 4 hours sleep and watching the game, or getting six hours and not subjecting myself to it. Tricky one!

Its very difficult to see a Saints win let alone a goal. Got a horrible feeling it will be back to trying to get a draw via sideways and backwards.  If we get that  players will get from fans so they better not revert back. We need to move forward and improve. You would think they players want to win and try for 6th place.

Crap 1-1, if we’re lucky.

We aren’t winning.

Expecting a Tonda masterclass reverting to a back five with Manning brought back into the side.

If means boring the home fans to death and a draw then that's an achievement.
