How much longer can this crack reporter conceal his talents from the the poweres-that-be? Truly head-scratching. Yeah, especially when you listen to the crap spouted by the sun's Chief Sports Reporter regarding the Tonda punishment. 1

Fatboy40 Posted October 11 Posted October 11 I'm not astute enough to know the answer but why is JWP not taking corners / dead balls like he used to?

Cuddles Posted October 11 Posted October 11 Perhaps because things were working well before, so why change a winning formula? But yeah, would love a Prowsie worldly to fly in.
Willo of Whiteley Posted October 11 Posted October 11 He should be on free kicks. His corners were questionable. 1
Dr Who? Posted October 11 Posted October 11 He took a free kick at Wrexham. His corners have never been great. Manning has a good free kick on him as well. Our corners in general are pretty naff now we do not anyone to attack them. Not really our style.

I thought Manning put in some very decent balls today - as you say no one seemed to attack the right areas. 1

There was one today very close to the corner of 18 yard box right in front of the Northam/Kingsland corner that was crying out for Prowseys right foot to drill in a curler and create some panic in the box, but instead it was wasted by Manning. Bree was decent on corners last season, then he got replaced by Leo and his aren’t all that tbf.
pimpin4rizeal Posted October 12 Posted October 12 Am I the only one a little concerned that jwp could be shoehorned in to the side with us changing to a midfield three now we have jander back ? I know we won with it this week but it takes away a lot of width and pace, the 4231 suits us well and plays to azaz’s strengths

But from last season Tonda has proven to tweak formations (and rotate) depending on the opposition. And again yesterday, got the result.

Before the sending off, Ward-Prowse was playing on the right, Azaz was playing as a number 10 behind Larin. It was still 4231, not 433 Edited October 12 by Matthew Le God
Harry_SFC Posted October 12 Posted October 12 JWP was playing very narrow which did allow Bree space to get forward but we certainly missed something defensively down that side without Matsuki. 2

There's enough games in the Championship though that all 3 will get plenty of game time if we just play 2 of them and this will also keep them fresher. That' s what we did last season with Downes/Jander/Charles so see no reason why we wouldn't do that this season now we have JWP instead of Charles. 1

He certainly wasn’t afraid to have a long ranger back then, scored a few from distance. Doesn’t mean he is a shoe in, but none of them should be, strong competition.

I am hoping it was just a one off as it took away balance and attacking threat Matsuki looked good again . The ball to Leo from Azaz was brilliant and shame he didn’t finish that. 1
Saint86 Posted October 13 Posted October 13 (edited) 46 game season and we have great depth in CM. Ultimatley we are spoilt for choice with JWP, Jander, and Downes. Becuause (nuno issues aside) - any of the 3 should expect to start for any other team in the league. And Bragg is a great understudy to have and who will get plenty of game time and exposure as we get into the thick of it. Edited October 13 by Saint86 5

benjii Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago He was excellent. Covered so much ground, made lots of interception/tackles, used the ball well, and basically told Spirito di Cunto to get bent. 2
Hodgey Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I think the thing with JWP is his ability to quickly create partnerships. I don’t think he’s in the best 2, but he is in the best partnership. He will still frustrate as he is a recycler and will most often play the safe ball, but he can still get around the pitch (if slightly slower than before) and has high football intelligence. He’s also still good for 5-10 goals. Was a really good signing, and the kind of move we have often ignored (gone for a young player instead) or got wrong (Rom, Walcott, Lallana all well past there best) 1
hypochondriac Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Hammers still going with the lie that his legs have gone. Flies in the face of all stats and evidence.
HKsaint Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Tonda: I told you to buy back KWP from Hammers, not JWP! FFS
Willo of Whiteley Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Has your opinion changed @Baird of the land? Asking for everyone. 😂 1
AlexLaw76 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago He was brilliant yesterday.....he sits in front of the back 4 superbly....also some of his clearances/tackles were as good as a goal. 4
Midfield_General Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago (edited) Getting £30m for him and then getting him back while he’s still at this level for less than we paid for Alan McLoughlin in 1990 is up there as one of the more shrewd bits of business the club’s done. I was hoping he’d score a free kick, and in a well rehearsed celebration teammates congratulate him by slapping his head (as per Benny Hill). Preferably in front of the West Ham bench. 1
