Saint86 Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago (edited) Absolutely a must win game, and to be blunt, we need to be ruthless if we can be. They're newly relegated, which will have a weird effect on them and their pride has been badly stung, so we need to be ready for a reaction... but we simply have to go for it. Edit - i do fear that the recent relegation at their bitter rivals (and the shame of being relegated in Feb) will make this a harder game than we'd like. Edited 15 hours ago by Saint86 1
Sheaf Saint Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago (edited) Aiming to do the Steel City quadruple with a win here. I'm wondering how their now confirmed relegation will affect them mentally. Sometimes in that situation, when the pressure is suddenly off, teams can spring a surprise on you (I'm thinking of that time we went and lost 6-2 to Derby after they had been relegated). But I don't think there ever was any pressure on Wednesday because they've surely known since the moment they got their points deduction that they were never gonna stay up. On paper it should be an easy win. But I've been watching Saints for far too long to take anything like that for granted. Edited 15 hours ago by Sheaf Saint 2
Harry_SFC Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago They are absolutely crap. Lost their two best players in January as well (amazingly Jan Valery was one of them, which says it all). Should be a comfortable win. Peretz, Bree, THB, Stephens, Manning, Charles, Downes, Matsuki, Azaz, Scienza, Larin/Stewart.

SNSUN Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago If our second string can beat a strong Leicester side in the cup, it can definitely beat Wednesday. I'm not saying play the second team but if two or three changes were made by Tonda, it shouldn't affect our chances of beating them. This should be 3 more points.

Whilst it was frustrating to watch Tonda keep taking off our best player after 60 mins in mid winter we are now in a position where we have almost the whole squad available, when most of the league are walking wounded. I would be happy to start with Charles and Bragg in midfield for example. Maybe Edozie and Matsuki too. But continue to bring on the rested players for 10-25 mins to keep them involved and up to speed. 1
Football Special Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago I certainly don't think we can be complacent, Millwall only won there 2-1, Wrexham beat them 1-0, they will battle hard and make us earn the points. Hopefully the Sheffield derby has drained them and a tough trip to Norwich tomorrow night should make recovery tough for their small squad. 2
Football Special Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Fair play to them for giving us £20 tickets, over 3000 sold currently and more still on sale, should be a good following up there 3
die Mannyschaft Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago I'll be up in Sheffield for the second time and I'll settle for any win. Last time I was there it was FA cup QF Sheffield Wednesday v Saints, 20 March 1984 0-0. 40,000 crowd and loads of Saints went up, won replay at Dell 5-1.
Micky Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago Eric Ramsay sacked by West Brom, they might get some 'new man bounce' by the time we get to them. 1
kwsaint Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago One of the closest games for me. Going with the father in law who is a Wednesday fan so should be fun!

They put their all into winning the Steel derby, but fell short, as this would have been very small consolation for what has been a horror of a season. They have slightly settled down and improved over the last few weeks, and by this I mean they have scored. If we do not win this it will be criminal. But nothing surprised me when I go to football. I have managed to see Cambridge lose their only game in 20 against few weeks ago away at Harrogate who were bottom and not won in 10 games at home… yep Harrogate won!

The first that I remember, of course the semi final, but also Armstrong against Blackburn, holding the magic sponge to his head. The other semi final Watford v Plymouth. To this day I believe if we had overcome Everton we would have won the cup that year. Remember the Wednesday game. I think the last time I was at Hillsborough was 0-0 as well in the mid 90’s. 1
Sheaf Saint Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago Last time I went to watch us play at Hillsborough, we lost 5-0 under George Burley. Wednesday weren't even particularly good on the day, we just completely crumbled in defence and gave away some ridiculous goals. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_1/7076446.stm At least we can safely say there is zero chance of that happening again on Saturday. 1

Why make changes, no one can be tired after 25 minutes of walking football at the end of last night's game. Slow walking at that. Only change I would make would be Charles for Jander, assuming Weli is still out. 1

Was that when Kelvin Davis had agg with the away end? 1

Strange day that was, Hillsborough anniversary and they put us in lower tier leppings lane end next to a load of flowers that had been laid by Liverpool fans

Jack Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I’ve got a spare for this if anyone wants it, upper stand. Face value £20. I know they’re still on sale but only in the lower now. Will be on the 07:52 train from Soton Central, around Sheffield City centre at lunchtime or can meet by the ground before kickoff
Jack Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago This was the lineup last time I was at Hillsborough, mad that it’s 2 decades ago. Davis, Ostlund, Lundekvam (Viafara 46), Baird, Bale, Pele, Skacel, Wright, Surman, Rasiak, Jones (Wright-Phillips 46)
S-Clarke Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago (edited) I mean...this is like an FA Cup game against a lower league team. I feel sad for Wednesday, because their team is barely L1 in quality at this stage - so in that respect, this should be a no brainer for us. They always put up a fight though, that's what's struck me all season. They don't have any real ability or depth at all, but they always give all that they have - so it won't be an absolute walk in the park, but we just need to do our game and things will happen. spyinthesky Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago My one and only visit to Hillsborough was in 2007? when we played well and winning by one goal until the Weds keeper (Kevin Pressman?) came up for a last minute corner and headed an equaliser
Pamplemousse Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago This won't be a 5-0 thrashing. They'll sit deep and we always struggle to break teams like that down. We should win but it won't be simple. 2-0

Lighthouse Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago My only trip up there was Adkins' first win as Saints manager. 1-0, Lee barnard IIRC. I'd take that again, without Lee Barnard obviously.
Football Special Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago We've won our last 7 matches against Sheffield Wednesday, have we ever beaten a team 8 times in a row?

They’d have gone down regardless of the deduction, it’s nearly March and they have accumulated 11 points. If anything their deduction hasn’t been a punishment at all…we had a similar situation in 2009 and we were forced to take the points deduction the following season unless we stayed up. I’m not sure Wednesday will suffer the same fate. 1

Turkish Posted 43 minutes ago Posted 43 minutes ago I usually book tickets via northern saints so for the first time in years I’ve booked via the club website for an away game. I booked tickets Monday and was advised to down load the app but there are no tickets on there. Do they still send out physical tickets or will they eventually show in the app? northern saints you get a ticket in the post so assume they’re on the way?
