Saint_clark Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Can see the attacking threat but don't see where the width is coming from. 1
goodymatt Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Away to top of the league without our best LB, CF and LW (best player). Where is the width to get crosses into Larin? Where is the pace to counter? These injuries and Fellows low confidence have not come at a good time! Does seem like Tonda is playing this one not to lose, let’s see.
BARCELONASAINT Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I think it was obvious to most on here that as soon as Scienza and Stewart went off we wouldn't see either for this game and in the case of Scienza unlikely to see him for quite some time. I have no idea where the spark is coming from. Matsuki was poor midweek and Edozie has only shown brief glimpses of the player he was. Given we have gone with Larin then we absolutely need to play to his strengths so that means when he's in the box putting crosses into the box for his head.
Willo of Whiteley Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago (edited) No width and no pace. This could be interesting. Edited 8 hours ago by Willo of Whiteley
goodymatt Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Welcome to the 100 club Flynn. To be celebrated with a yellow and 2 match ban? 2 3
Turkish Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Assume it’ll be a low block with Azaz as a 10 Jander as the 8 with a double pivot to allow the hybrid full backs to overlap getting balls into the red zone. Should help us to win lots of turnovers be solid against the ball with quick transitions wide . 2 2 1

Teams have been sitting deep, or parking the bus, for ages. A new phrase isn't needed. To be fair, low block makes more sense than parking the bus, although sitting deep does what it says on the tin. Overload is the one that winds me up. Still, if things didn’t change they would still be wearing boots with massive toe caps and nailed in studs and shin pads made of pieces of cane. 😉 Edited 8 hours ago by sadoldgit

Winnersaint Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Hard to disagree with a defeat. Largely on the grounds of gaining only 7 points out of possible 27 so far against the current top 6 1
obelisk Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Injuries starting to take their toll. Not very confident that the squad can handle the run-in pressure given their flaky form over the season. Hope they can prove me wrong.
sfc4prem Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I've not watched Coventry this season. How do they play? With width? High back line? Attacking wingbacks?

sfc4prem Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I'm fearing there might be a lot of sideways and backwards passing, as we struggle to break them down due to lack of forward movement and creativity. 1

We had two (or was it 3) players just one yellow card away from a suspension meant they were a little more careful with some tackles. Not everyone is capable of playing upto his best level in every game, but I expect the likes of Matsuki and Edozie to perform a bit better v. Coventry. Larin is a real threat and experienced at dealing with defenders and holding the ball up, and has an amazing turn of pace when attacking. Scienza takes a lot of punishment in every game, and is not protected by referees either. Both he and Stewart may make good contributions for the remainder of the season ..if not forced to play 90+ minutes in every game.

Willo of Whiteley Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago We look very light in the centre of midfield…

Only Borough have a better defensive record than Coventry which doesn't bode well for our attacking players and when it comes to scoring goals they have done it for fun, scored 30 more than we have! 1

Largely on the grounds of gaining only 7 points out of possible 27 so far against the current top 6 Yeah, this is what I've been attempting to highlight the last couple of weeks... As good as the current 'unbeaten run' (TM) has been, it's largely been against teams you'd expect us to get a result from. Today will tell us more about what level Tonda has got us to, more so than the last 10 games. (edit: that said, with two of our most pivotal players out of action, it could be argued that a poor result today isn't as indicative of our level as it might otherwise be...) Baird of the land Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago lack of pace in that lineup is a definite concern 1
Zorba Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Need to be on the front foot today. If we’re slow and dick around at the back, we’ll get pumped!

die Mannyschaft Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Just seen line up. Its a very slow non attacking line up. I doubt if we will get over the half way line more than 5 times. Coventry 6-0 Saints based on line up. I could be wrong but there is no players who can score, run or take on players. Latin maybe isolated or end up in back 4. Can't win with no wingers. 1 3
Jack Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago That’s clever from Tonda I think, set us up to shithouse a 1-0 win from a set piece or own goal from our only foray into Coventry’s half. Great to see how adaptable he’s becoming to different types of challenge 1

It will certainly take a tactical masterclass to beat Cov today. If Tonda pulls it off, he’ll have earned his stripes. COYS!
macca155 Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago (edited) Considering our form against the top 8, and what a horror show that is, we've no right to expect anything more than a draw today. That team is set up for exactly that. Aiming to control the midfield, frustrate them, and then unleash Edozie and/or Fellows to grab a winner. Be interesting to see all three CMs playing. Guess Jander will push forward a bit You never know, a Manning free kick on 87 minutes might make the weekend. Nb 'unleash' is doing a lot of work there Edited 7 hours ago by macca155 1

I don't see us getting out much so we'll lose. We really need to try to keep the play away from our area with the personnel they have who are good at scoring. If Larin can keep it and hold it up who's to support him - none of those are going to do much and I don't see Larin as someone (quite) who will run onto a threaded pass from Azaz (who likely as not will be anonymous). 4-0 to them.

At the home game, 1st half they were good. Then they defended and we weren't very good. They just passed and moved and didn't play in a particular style. If they're on form, based on the first half at SMS they were the best team in this league I've seen this season.
obelisk Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago The plan seems to be to keep 'em out. That'll work until Coventry score from the first corner. I'm expecting a heavyish defeat today.
Saint_clark Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Christ, jobs worth ref it seems. Orders the throw retaken because he was two feet far forward.
