Unfinished business and all that. 2

But I guess if Tonda's view is that he won't use him much at this point, this could be a really good experience for him if he gets enough game time in Italy. I wonder if this means Edozie is staying as it was really his reintroduction into the squad by Tonda that limited Robinson's chances to get on the pitch so much? If he can get minutes under his belt at such a good level, then it could be an excellent move for him. He wasn't getting them under Tonda, and needs to push on. 5

Willo of Whiteley Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Ben Brereton-Diaz needs to go for the sake of his own career. Sam Edozie too probably. They aren’t going to pull up any trees here; with the latter down to his final year I’d be shocked if he was still here in a months time, but who’s paying more than a couple of million for him realistically?
James Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago (edited) Jebbison looks OK in that YouTube clip shared earlier, good physical profile but a concern he only scored six times last year. If he’s who we go for then it’s massive pressure on Larin. Replacing Stewart with Jebbison is quite the downgrade, if that’s what we are doing then query if more cost efficient to just keep BBD - I’m relatively sure he’d get 6 goals and 2 assists over a season playing in our side…. I'd say there is 0 evidence that Jebbison would get us out of the leauge. Looks incredibly average if you ask me, a more physical Downs. If that is the caiber of player we're looking at, it starts to make not offering stewart and extra year incredibly questionable. I'm still a little fearful that Larin might absolutely crash this season as well. Just like larin looked average and Peretz looked average etc etc. If we sign him and he improves a bit and gets 10 goals in a better team and helps create some with good hold up play then he is doing the same as Ross with potential to improve.

It was an obvious signing at 3m or whatever we paid, but i'm not at all confident with him leading the line all season, alone. I know what you mean about Larin. When we were first linked it looked an incredibly average signing given his goal record previously. He’s been great and it was a no brainer to sign him but he was, at least as I interpreted it, always our “second striker”. The fact that we rotated so heavily at the end of the season given so many games hid it a bit but whenever we had to play our best team we usually started Stewart. If we’d have played the playoff final I am fairly sure Ross would have started. There is some risk that Larin’s form was a purple patch to get the move - we have seen that before with Saganowski for example - and he has looked a bit leggy at times. Elevating him to our first choice is a risk, especially if the second slot is being filled by someone with a patchy goal record. Would be a surprise as Stewart to Jebbison is a clear downgrade and Solak’s comments over the summer suggested we’d be going all out. Larin and Jebbison is much interior to Bowen and Castellanos or Jiminez and Armstrong for example.

I'd be happy if he was Scienza's understudy for the year. Equally, with his contract running down it would be understandable if the Club accepted a suitable offer. Maybe Edozie wants to move on, after all, he, like Charles was bundled off on loan by the new Foxes Manager. At this stage of their careers, I'd say Edozie at 23 is a better option than Robinson, who at 19, should benefit from more playing time during his loan period. 3

I know nothing of Jebbison and whether he has it in him to shine this season. He's probably still developing his game, so last seasons 6 goals may not reflect what he might offer. Perhaps we will create more chances for him than Preston did? We do need a strong physical presence too. I assume he offers that?

West Dean FC Legend Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Totally agree. Blasting home a chance that you weren't expecting, or one you were but with Saints expecting it to be bobbled past the post or into the goalie's arms. That's why last season was so bloomin' amazing. We looked like a might goal-scoring maching at times. When you've 'super forwards' missing the ball entirely or bobbling it anywhere except the back of the net it was fantastic. Just attacking too - looking like we wanted to score more than one goal! If they get it wrong it'll be back to the usual for us. All of which of course had literally nothing to do with spying on the opposition. Getting rid of Armstrong was a good move - I think he was a bad attitude influence myself [no evidence or proof].

We do need a striker and preferably a goalscorer that can really compete for the slot with Larin, but it's also worth remembering that while our striking quartet scored 31 League goals last season, the rest of the team got 47 - and we now have Dobbin on top of that. I'm quietly confident about our chances this season, although it's possible Manning's 8 goals and THB's 7 goals won't be matched this season - and that's why we need a decent striker. One good striker, a CM and a 2nd GK and the squad, pending any "Jewel" exits, is complete for promotion. 2

The last game against Boro sticks in my mind. I was sat right in front in line wiht the six yard box, so Edozie was right in front of me and he was absolutely woeful. He lost the ball pretty much every time and any confidence he had seemed to disappear almost immediately. He gave up on dribbling, which meant he offered nothing. To be honest, he caused us more problems than them. He also feigned injury, the ref ignored it and he left us short at the back. I thought he looked completely out of his depth. I've never thought that before (I love players that try to take their man on, so really want him to succeed), but if the manager was watching from my viewpoint, I don't think he'd ever pick him again. Fortunately for him, it was on the other side of the pitch, so his display may have gone unnoticed. Robinson is obviously out, so the manager has made a choice. I'd like to see Edozie depart too and for us to sign another winger (assuming BBD goes to Derby at some point). It's a long season and Scienza could easily get injured.

We spread goals out throughout the side last year, it is part of what made us so effective. Don't get me wrong, i would like us to sign a quality CF to rotate with the 31year old Larin... but i'm not panicking over it. This team showed they can "suffer", see out games, and has goals all over the pitch. And Dobbin (stats from preston below), will be a very good addition for us with respect to goal contributions (goals/assists/key passes etc). Edited 4 hours ago by Saint86 1

From recollection Azon scored about half the number of goals you would expect him to score so I guess, if stats are your thing, that Jebbison is probably better in that regard. To be honest I don't know enough about the lad and the YouTube footage is fairly sparse on him. I like that physically he seems to be quite big, strong and very fast but then I thought that was the kind of player we'd be getting with Downs.

Totally agree although, as an aside, it’s a bit disappointing that we are potentially starting a competitive fixture with BBD or Downs up front. I know that’s partly because Larin is late back from the WC but we always seem to find ourselves short handed up top starting the season.
Rebel Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I would have kept Robinson, but I think Dobbin has been brought in to provide competition and cover at LW, 10 and RW and I think the plan is for Akachukwu is to provide cover on the left as well. So I am not sure Robinson would have got the game time needed to develop with Fellows and Matsuki covering the right wing as well. I still think the plan is to move on Edozie and BBD though. I thought of Larin and Steward as one fit striker between them really - so we desperately need to add a first choice striker that fits the physical centre forward model. Oyekunle will be great a 3rd choice cover and Larin as the second striker but we need a first choice goal scorer. Archer doesn't fit the way we play and I think we will move him on. And Downs just doesn't have it in terms of physicality or technique. A loan to the Bundesliga 2 seems most likely.

MarkSFC Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I would be astounded if BBD is still here come the closure of the transfer window. 4
Dman Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago To be fair, BBD would offer us something different on the left wing. Edozie and Scienza are both the type of player to beat a man and hit the byline, where-as BBD is very much cut in and shoot. If the option is to loan him out and have to cover the majoirty of his salary... or keep him, I'd rather we kept him.
