More fool you in that case I'd say.

If a bigger club comes in and pays the money, he'll be off (as would probably everyone in our squad)

How does that make me a fool, hoping one of our best players will stay? There has barely been any mention of THB going, there has been plenty of mention of him staying? I would prefer it that, as one of our best players, he stays.  We have just lost two of our best players, I think promotion this season is already going to be more of a challenge than a lot of people are expecting.

Selling him at any cost will certainly be a huge factor in remaining down.

after this season, that is that for a generation

Its obvious that every player has their price. I wouldn't be surprised if we've said if a club at x level come in for you and offer us y, you can leave.

As nice as it sounds to turn down offers, if we stop him from going to a top club in the europa leauge (assuming he wants to go), we don't then get the next THB through the door.

I don't disagree but we could just say you can go with our blessing next season if we fail to go up.

Yeah good point. How long did it take them? 25 years?

Not the denial I was hoping for...

Adam Blackmore has been clear all summer that we won't be standing in the way of the players who have been here longer than a season (Charles and THB.) I do think he will go but I was hoping it might be less likely given it's so close to the end of the window. Tbh I'd have preferred him to go in the first few weeks if he's off.

Yes it's Alex Crook but as much as it pains me to say it, I don't think he's as shit as he once was.

what do you mean not as he once was,the guy just keeps making allegedly sound bites that very very really there any fact or truth behind assumptions, and talk bollocks only count the so called top 6 and completely dismiss any other league

Yeah, that won’t be us after selling half a first team next summer.

Yes, won’t work like that as a team not good enough for promotion will be almost entirely replaced with players no where near as good overall. The change and disruption will be huge.

as I said, not going up this year will probability mean we stay down for a very long time, like most other sides before us, including Coventry.

So the team that over the last 25 games (with this manager) that won more points than anyone isn't good enough to go up? Get a grip lad.

If THB is sold then I would expect that a more than capable replacement is lined up. Quarshie not really being used in pre-season suggests hes nowhere near being a consideration so we probabaly need two CB in reality if THB is sold.

Not never, but statistically a team with the benefit of parachute payments is iro 3 x more likely to gain promotion.

Why is that clear? Signing players like Jander and Scienza shows the current recruitment team is capable of spotting good players (even if they have mistakes like Downs).

Looks like Messi might be retiring, so if we were waiting for him, we should move on to the next target.

If he doesn't want to come to little old Southampton, we can do better IMHO.

yeah it's a weird sentiment, if anything the last 3 transfer windows have been extremely productive in my eyes and I'm confident we can identify good players, at the same time I really dont want to lose THB, I'd rather we lost any other player than him, I think he's the most important player in the squad.

The Benfica THB talk is nonsense. Their record fee was for Rios last year €25m and they moaned like fuck about that. Solak said the only time he would consider bids for key players would be ‘if they make me fall out of bed’ so he would likely want to double his money on Bellis - circa £40m.

I cant help but disagree about Bragg, I think hes already superior to Smallbone especially when it comes to passing. His energy is greater and I feel his reading of the game and positioning is already good. He is developing quickly, and although we dont know where his development will end I can forsee a very high class footballer with lin a couple of years.

Totally agree. Cam Bragg is really very good.

Agreed It probably is, but Alfie could have done a better job in shutting it down in my opinion.

What is he supposed to say? He's obviously for sale for the right price, it's just if anyone is prepared to pay what we would want. I don't think it's a coincidence that the media interviews this summer have been from Stephens, Manning, Larin and Downes.

It's not really his "job" to do that though to be fair?! He's not an employee of the club. What he's reporting is the bid is way below what the club value THB at, so they certainly won't be selling at that price or even near it. It's not his job to say we won't sell him at any price if that's what you want, unless someone at the club has explicitly said that, which they haven't.

And neither should they because that would be incredibly foolish

Pretty sure Blackmore said in one of his shows this summer that after speaking to Solak in Slovenia, he had shared that Charles and Harwood-Bellis could go with his blessing this summer if there was an opportunity they wanted to pursue and the offer is acceptable, because they've been here for a few seasons and been good servants to the club, haven't caused the club issues etc.

Not sure he stated the names explicitly but I believe what he said was that those who had just joined last summer would not be free to leave with the implication being that those who have been here longer would be free to go if we received an acceptable offer. That was widely interpreted to be THB and Charles which I think is likely true. Whether that will still be the case with maybe a week of the window left I don't know. I hope not!

To be fair he has been half decent for them.

Perennially shite for us though.

To be fair, we don't really want a local journalist categorically saying a player isn't for sale, only for them to be sold weeks later...

Got a funny feeling THB will go, so I hope we have eyes on a decent centre half and are not relying on Jack Bloomin' Stephens (his real middle name).

THB does pitch in with a few goals too, so hope that we don't miss those and Shea's...

Adam Blackmore has been alluding to him going all summer. If you listen to Adam and Joe there is a lot of suggestions that he will be off.

I’m more confident of Casper Jander staying, I think it would be a pretty seismic decision to allow both he and Shea Charles to leave in this window - and I was always convinced SC would go.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis is an interesting one. I thought he’d have been one of the first out the door, but seemingly not.
I think his situation is a bit more unique; clearly seen as a leader around the club, his development and attitude has been huge, recently married, only this year had a baby with his partner - things like that make me think he might stay put for one more season, unless a monumental offer comes in that the club can’t turn down.

My concern would be that if someone like him leaves, would the likes of Flynn Downes, Ryan Manning etc push to go at the last minute?

I’m more confident he’ll stay in all truth.

I think you can forget automatic promotion if THB goes. It is too late in the window to replace him adequately on our budget. Together with Peretz he commands the defence and is key to the way we build from the back.

Can't help but feel we don't sniff at autos if THB goes. He's still got two years on his deal, he can wait for a move until next year if we don't go up.

Posted

If they have been expecting THB to leave for ages that means we will have someone else lined up

it’s obvious everyone at the club realises the importance of us getting promoted this season for starters it makes the plans for ground redevelopment a bit pointless.

Annoying if THB goes in the last week of the window. Will really leave Saints scrambling for an equal replacement.

It will be a bit of a cock up if he goes and there’s no proper replacement. The club should know at least a little bit in advance if talks get realistic. We’ll see what happens. I tend to think he’ll go, but can also see some merits of him giving it one more season with us.

Guys the first principle thinking about THB is this.

Southampton is already as far away as a northerner and roy keanes manchester born daughter with young kid are willing to live, going to portugal is like living in a another country (thanks ian rush).

0 fucking chance he goes to portugal and if he does Turkish will delete his account.

Yep, I'm hoping he's going to give it another go.

Crazy prices are being touted around though for players this summer.

Do wonder if someone is actually going to stump up the sort of money for a cb required to get us to part with Thb. If they do I guess we’d have to go test the resolve of someone else in the championship like we did when we got fellows.

Teden Mengi at Luton is available, type of profile I could see us bringing in as a THB replacement. Undoubtedly a downgrade but I think whoever comes in would be.

Hopefully it's a moot point and Taylor stays anyway
