We have Dobbin who can play there... we just didn't play him there 😄

My point was that we didn't have anyone other Azaz to play there before we signed Dobbin, hence we signed Dobbin...and then, like you say, we didn't play him there.

I'd like Tonda to be asked why not, but I guess it's his prerogative. If he continues to do it, and we aren't winning games, then maybe the director of football/owner will ask.

Important to stay tight at the back.

I guess you could argue that before we had lost anyone, AM was a weakness in that we only really had Azaz that could play there, while at centre back we had four players the club were seemingly are happy with. Tonda playing Scienza against Watford undermines that argument somewhat, although in doing so the left side needed filling with Dobbin.

Your opinion on Wood, Stephens and Quarshie probably differs from the clubs, although even if they agreed with you, they'd still need to find a suitor for at least one before they could sign another.

Does it? I haven't seen much evidence lately that the club considers Quarshie to be a good option at cb. I agree we shouldn't be signing anymore until we've got rid of one or two of them, I was just surprised we dropped 9 million on Dobbin if it turns out that that is the majority of our transfer budget after Larin and Peretz. We may need some of that cash to strengthen in areas where in my opinion we are weaker.

So the second the Charles transfer goes through reports appear around THB leaving. Now it seems that Benfica have moved on to another target and some hack is reporting interest in Scienza?

As they haven't farmed Quarshie out on loan, yet, I am guessing they see him as 'OK' for a fourth choice CB? Although, until the window closes we wont know for sure. If players haven't shown anything after 12 months, then I'd much rather we moved them on and tried again then cross our fingers and hope they come good.

You make a good point. It's a sizeable amount of our transfer budget for a 'back up', although finding quality attacking players for next to nothing is a tough ask, so perhaps the right area to invest. The fact he seems to play in multiple positions also adds to his charm.

One of the echo reporters asked Eckert about it post match. The answer was something to do with responding to how Watford set up. All a bit vague. However, I think it unlikely he’ll repeat it. It was clearly a crap move.

I think he was trying to protect Scienza from being marked up by 3 men and getting bullied off the ball. Of course it didn’t work particularly well. One positive is that Tonda does seem to learn quickly about what the squad can and can’t do, so I agree - it’s unlikely he’ll try that one again.

Good post. It's true that he's versatile but then you get into the dangerous territory of a Jermaine Wright i.e. a jack of all trades and master of none. Really he should be used solely as a rotation option to keep Azaz fresh but in that case I'd question if the money could have been better spent elsewhere. All speculation at the moment until the end of the window but personally I'd be looking to have Stephens as first choice and probably bring in two defenders if/when THB goes.

The Serbs need to make good with the transfer budget this season. If we fail this year they need to bugger off as I dont think they are up to it in terms of ownership. Too nieve

No it says Burnley.

Apologies @hypochondriac, my 🤦‍♂️ was for me not just reading the article and assuming it was us.

Question is now whether Burnley will beat us to this and if we would be interested in signing even if THB stays. At £4m I would want us to be doing what we can to bring him in regardless.

Apology accepted. Read your own link next time! I'd love him to sign but realistically I can only see him replacing THB.

Sure I read somewhere that the £4 m was for Sheffield United only as they have a sell on and are still owed some money and that the price to others is nearer £10m

To be fair what it says is:

"Southampton’s interest was already known but we understand that Burnley have now joined the race after they came down from the Premier League last season, and look to challenge for an instant return."

So it's implying there is a 'race' between us and Burnley, if it's to be believed.

I assumed that "This us?" Referred to "another Championship rival now seen as favouries for 27yo defender."

Surely that would mean their sell on is > 100%?! Seems like rubbish?

I've heard Blades' female supporters are right up for it happening. They've loved Anel in the past.

Sell on and still owed some money from the transfer.

That's not how football accounting works, Sheffield will have 'banked' the book profit on him when they sold him, so regardless of actual cash flow they would still show a incoming expenditure on this year's accounts.

No signs of any offload and thats not going to help with any arrivals.

Ramsdale , Bazanu, Bereton Diaz, Downs must be a good £1m a month in wages

Add in Sugawara

Who was the last player we got from Everton?

Is this one of those "I know something but will ask it as a question rather than state it overtly" type questions....? ;)

I assumed it was a sort of hint at Harrison Armstrong, who is somebody I've thought we might take a run at this summer. Did really well at this level last time out and Moyes called him back to play for Everton in the second half of the season

Bring.

Holgate, Walcott and Molyneux the only three to come from Everton in the last 20 years.

Armstrong would be a top signing, though. Another one of the Preston squad last season.

Could be transfer related - No Ramsdale in goal or the squad for the U21s this evening, Moody's in goal. Larios is on the bench.
