Tough situation. Villa fanny around until the last minute. We're clearly not going to buy anyone until THB is actually sold, due to the risk of the deal falling through and being stuck with player and his replacement. Other clubs charging a premium due to it being the end of the window and them needing to go out and get replacements. Not really sure what the club can do – accept £20M for THB last week?

Damned if we do, damned if we don't.

I’m sure he does, I’ve never heard of the bloke but I trust your judgement, is mr Spord involved with farming too?

I don't disagree but he'd have to be a hell of a find to replace the leadership, desire and ability at least to some degree of THB whilst not being good enough to get into the forest squad. Let's not forget he's replacing our best player. Forest isn't like Chelsea or city where they have a hoard of top quality youngsters who can't get in the squad.

Not the most exciting name in the world but it is what it is. We were always going to get a bit worse after last year, despite what Dragan strangely said. Keeping Scienza and Jander with a few good signings added on top has been way better than I expected.

For as poor as he has started the season, we did go 20-odd unbeaten with Stephens and Wood has also stepped in just fine. Whoever is playing well of the three of them to partner the new guy isn’t bad for this league. Then we hopefully have some money in the bank to attack the Prem if we get up.

Will enjoy deadline day hoping for another random attacker on loan from nowhere.

Alfie house reckons we don't want to pay more for players who weren't our first choice. Is he talking about the norwegian perhaps? Cb is such a crucial position, probably our most crucial position this window given who we've lost. It's so important we get it right. Spors deserves a level of trust but this is a hell of a risk.

We’ve clearly lost out on a number of targets this summer in my view. We clearly wanted Lankshear before the price went too high (will be a mistake to have not paid up in my view) and clearly we’ve been aiming for these defenders only to be priced out once the selling clubs knew we had £25m in our pockets…

We’ve taken two pretty big risks in Mubama and now Abbott.

On the plus side, we should hopefully have some flexibility if we are promoted this year having spent quite modestly.

We’ve just swapped a 25 year old CB with an England cap for a 20 year old kiddy in a very physical league and demanding position with three first team appearances. He’d be fine to replace Stephens and pay off Jack off to go and finish his career at Plymouth but as first choice alongside Schlott along with Wood and Stephens neither of whom I rate whatsoever, it’s the latest in a long line of piss takes by SR.

Come on. We’re about to sell our best player and the replacement is a 20 year old on loan from a lower mid table PL club. He might turn out to be decent, but surely wasn’t the Club’s first choice. As others have said, we’ve banked the best part of £60m this summer and the replacements for those two players will reportedly have cost less than £1m. Does suggest our finances aren’t amazing.

It suggests that our first choices couldn’t get done and just splashing money for vibes was an approach we didn’t fancy.

I’ve never seen this lad or the other CB’s mentioned today so I’m about as whelmed for any of them and will happily wait until they’ve had a good run. If he turns out to be decent then that’s good, no?

Really think people forget this whole transfer window winning thing is literally pointless. Happy to be underwhelmed after we get stuffed every week but right now it’s fine?

It makes me laugh. People having a melt down about signing a young lad from Forest instead of signing either a guy from Norway or a guy from Germany neither of which until 24 hours ago anyone here had ever heard of. Muppets.

They make it clear that the THB deal only happens once a replacement is lined up and ready to go. I’d pull the plug on the THB deal now to be fair,

I think people expected a level of pedigree to replace our best player. Getting someone inexperienced on loan was not what people had in mind and as suggested by Alfie it does appear that we have missed out of some of our targets and don't have time to look elsewhere. I hope he's great and the likes of Larin have proven their worth but it's still a lot to potentially hang promotion on in a position that is so important.

Which is fine. Can you guarantee we get £25M + £5M in January? That he'd want to play after we pull the plug on a deal, let alone sign a contract extension?

It's clear we want/need the money.

I guess we can safely say Capn Jack is back in contention and likely to start lots of games.

What’s the logic behind that? We signed Schlotterbeck to play left-sided CB and he was superb on Saturday. Abbott is a RCB so Stephens and will rotate with Wood.

I think a touch of realism is needed here. The Norwegian chap will play Champions league and the Elche chap is playing in La Liga. We are in the Championship and there is currently no guarantee that the manager that they will sign for, will not be banned and possibly removed.
I fully appreciate as fans that we all want the best players to come and join us but it is understandable why players may have reservations.

Big difference in the profiles and experience of the two defenders linked and the kiddy signed on loan for a key position in the spine with a whopping three PL first team appearances and 13 in all comps https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zach_Abbott

Needed to be a first choice CB. Needless gamble unless the finances were so bad.

Whether anyone had heard of them or not is irrelevant. The other two options had significantly more experience and pedigree, I think that’s fairly obvious. One of them was a full international that played at the World Cup and another had a full season at a top flight team in Spain. Either of them sounded a fairly good bet to replace our best player. Both clear upgrades on Wood and Stephens.

A young lad that’s played a handful of games for a team that were pretty crap last year isn’t quite the same thing. It’s a huge risk to throw a young lad in against Kieffer Moore and the likes. The downside is that we are back to starting one of Wood or Stephens and in an upside scenario it’s a straight loan and so goes back to Forest…

it’s not hard to see why folks are underwhelmed here, we are selling our best player and loaning a youth prospect from a mid table PL team as a replacement…

He’s had more than 3 first team appearances. If we’re going to criticise on not watching him play then at least be right 😂

For what it’s worth, lad I know from work who supports Forest really rates him. Has captained England youth teams, played regularly in Europa League for them last season and has just been unlucky that Murillo and Milenkovic have had such a decent partnership together that he hasn’t had more minutes.

Plus he can play right-back too which helps cover for Bree.

What pedigree out of interest? Because I bet Stephen’s ticks whatever box you want for pedigree…

I agree with what you’ve said, but to go with a youth team player in a physically and mentally demanding position replacing a £30m player is a totally extreme end of the spectrum, reckless and potentially idiotic gamble.

But that’s SR for you.

Stephens is our captain. It will not be long before he is back in the starting eleven. You've been a fan for a while, surely you realise that. Like night follows day Stephens ends up a regular in our side.

To go with replacing a CF, and not with a work experience lad from Man City.

Exactly, it may be that our top targets were over ambitious but surely there are other options rather than a 20 year old youth prospect….

13 in total if you include Europa and League Cup v L2 sides. Bags more experience then…

Wonder what they are doing with the money instead ....

I was against Abbott, but hes consistently been on forests bench and rotated in their European games, so might be a gem.

Spors has earned the right to make this call

I've never heard of Zach Abbott either.

But I have heard of "appearances" and I have heard of "this guy has has some significant league experience".

Any of them could be good or terrible for us but what is clearly is the kid from Forest was not the top of our list.

But yeah, laugh away.

Lol@Spurs: in other news Tottenham wanted Iliman Ndiaye from Everton and were willing to let Richarlson go back to Everton in return. Richarlison said no to Everton, now Ndiaye is joining Man City and Everton are probably getting Balogun instead and will probably get Grealish back. Spurs miss out again. Spurs are funny.

Looking positively — If you’re prem side with a really highly-rated player, who’s played in Europe for you — he should be very decent in the championship.

I think most people were expecting a fair amount of experience at a high level, someone who can replicate as much as possible some of THB's attributes so someone who can play the ball out, be a bit of a threat in the opposition's box. As a bonus you might want to target someone who has had success in a league such as as a promotion but definitely someone with a bit of experience for me is most important. You need a calm head at the back because that is where we are shakiest for me. Bringing in a youngster with potential is in my opinion rather risky even if he does turn out to be half decent. If he is that good though I'd be questioning why a lower league prem outfit like Forest are happy for him to leave.
