I think the point is that Daniel has moved early to commit to us which he should be commended for. If he'd waited there may have been many more offers coming in to him but he makes clear in his interview that he loves it here. Fair play to the guy and he's already my Player of the Season for 2026/27 🙂

Maybe.

I think my point is he hasn't signed for us because he loves it here, he has signed because we have financially compensated him at the rate he desires. Loving it here obviously hasn't done any harm, he ain't signing if he didn't want to be here, but if let's say Brentford had offered to double his wages on a four year deal and a starting berth in the PL, do you think he'd think twice?

his £125k a week wages or whatever it is are not an easy pick up though.

Personally, I couldn't recommend him high enough, but there have been a few on here suggesting we would have been better spending the money on an outfield player...perhaps those clubs might think the same? I'm surprised Newcastle have not bought him, but I guess they don't have the CL money so may need to go a little cheaper on a reserve keeper next season.

He's a very good keeper, but I'd question his attitude - he seemed happy to be a bit part player for more money rather than play week in week out for less.

Peretz on the other hand seems to want to play...

I've heard that the players are on a massive promotion bonus.  Might persuade 1 or 2 to stay and give it another go.

Must have been a factor in Peretz signing.

A massive bonus will pale into insignificance compared to a PL wage. If players get a PL offer they are probably not going to say no. Of course, if they are under contract, they have no choice but to stay until we sell them. If they aren't, we are still an attractive option as we can pay more than most of the other championship clubs.

Anyone know which EFL regulation we've broken by signing a player before the transfer window opens on 15th June? Asking for a Middlesbrough friend... ;)

You can stay at saints on £60k a week and play in the Championship or earn an extra £3m to do the same job, at Newcastle, playing in the PL and the CL. It's an absolute no brainer.

Didn't Gordon sign for Barca a couple of weeks ago?

Agree but we'll never know and nor will Daniel because he's made his commitment so early in the summer.

If you are coin operated....

Some people aren't they're operated by success and understand that with success comes money rather than chasing the money and hoping to stay successful.

From a media perspective, you'd want to put these great positive news stories out separately not all at once. It's a long summer with very little to announce. Dropping them all in a day seems silly - even if they are all done.

Not if you have a narrative to overturn and season tickets to sell.

Nah, not possible, he's got a hotline to the FA and one to the EFL too.

I wonder if doing the signing now alleviates/ helps with the new financial rules. Spend now, means we’re not affecting the post June new rules.

great signing!

You're making these too easy now.

People complain they're too crptic then complain that they're too easy, you can never win.

When we announce Patrick Van Kamp Glaziers as our new windows partner you wont be laughing then

Possibly, although there’s two months til the start of the season - he’s signed very early if what he *actually* wants is the biggest pay day. I’m not suggesting that money isn’t an issue of course, and I’m sure Saints are paying him a very decent wage; but given that he’s not played consistently for some time before January, playing for a club and coach that rate him has also got to be a factor.
