Agreed. We got nothing out of that first year of his contract, he was injured. He needs to repay that by giving us that extra year.

We bought him, that’s on us. He is thirty this summer, has probably one last decent contract left. I wouldn’t blame him for looking elsewhere. Hope he stays though.

The last game of the season was cancelled for us, so the previous last game was over 5 days away - I don't think it was something the club could help, just yet another resulting effect of the OTT punishment.

Yeah read as if the agent and legal team are exploiting a loophole. Really disappointing but does imply we might not have triggered it on promotion.

There was no reason to wait that long to trigger the extension.

Ridiculous to blame the club for this one. Yes whilst spygate was their own making we obviously didn't know we'd be expelled from the play offs. And I could see why they'd want to wait until after the final game to see what division we were in.

I can also see it from Stewart's perspective and that may not make him feel massively wanted.

Id go further than that. Would be a disgrace if he doesn’t extend, after the amount we’ve spent with him injured.

Agreed. He was injured for pretty much the first two year he was here, getting paid, getting treatment it’s only really been this season when he’s been able to rotate with Larin he’s showing anything. I’d also be amazed given his history and can’t seem to play 90 minutes twice a week if he gets a better offer anywhere else

Actually pretty prudent. If we were promoted we clearly would have considered other targets, that's why it wouldn't have been triggered.

Stewart will go or stay. I personally hope he stays. The issue is we've clearly screwed up our option on him.

We will have made him a fair offer, based on his clear ability but also his injury record. The Larin signing is also crucial becuase he will know that minutes will be managed and his career can be extended.

He'll either end up 3rd or 4th striker for a Prem team, 2nd fiddle for a relegated Prem club or pumping out major minutes for a middling Champ club.

Correct. However, it’s also why he doesn’t owe us anything.

Hopefully he stays but he’s not irreplaceable.

It’s completely imprudent. If we got promoted we’d have a tonne of money to improve the team and Stewart has shown ability to produce at that level(when he’s been fit). Not extending him means we’ve now down a key player when our finances are very constrained.

Hate to break it to you mate, because I like the man but I don't think big Roscoe would be lighting up the Prem.

If we were promoted I'd imagine we would have invested heavily in that area given Larin was on loan and Ross was due.

Even this season, Stewart was fucked for a bit.

But, I don't blame him for trying to eek out as many £££ as he can (and/or) at the highest level he can.

Not knowing which division you’re going to be in seems a sound reason to me. How do you pitch the salary proposal without knowing that ?

The option to extend the existing deal by a year  would surely be at a set contractual rate.

I thought I read that the club were hoping to keep Ross either way but wanted to renegotiate the terms of the contract.  Could mean anything - extra couple of years at a reduced rate, more weighted towards actual games played?  Not necessarily all to Ross’s detriment.

Larin and Stewart are like for like.

Maybe it’s time for Stewart to move on as he’s never been a 90 minutes player.

Not sure either are.

Larin with a full summer of Saints prep under Tonda might be a different proposition.
