If i've got this right we have a one year option on Stewart anyway so he isn't actually out of contract is he? We can just trigger the extra year, same with Charles?

Yes, except Charles has one more year, and then an option 27-28

I'm guessing we are in contract discussions with Charles and that's why we haven't triggered the additional year. If he doesn't sign a new deal or we get concrete interest and he says he wants to leave, we'll trigger it and get more value from the transfer fee.

I really hope Jander stays because I love watching him. And Shea Charles’s goals provided some of the best moments of the season. But if we only lose one of them, I guess I can live with that and we give Cam Bragg more minutes as well as letting Spors unearth another gem.
I actually think THB would be the biggest loss but is the most likely to go. Huge if he stays.

This for me - trying to replace him with someone of similar quality would be a massive task and though Wood played a lot of games last season and Quarshie has potential, we do need to replace him when he goes because Wood is not of the same quality and Quarshie needs more time. Jack is no spring chicken either, rebuilding the CB positions for the long term this summer would be prudent.

It’s made me realise that there’s been no comment from our two CB Captains following spygate - THB and Cap’n Jack. Possibly for the best, although Scienza and Matsuki managed to get some words out.

Interesting that Larin, a loan player whose contract is up, is in this post; but not Sugawara, who still has two years left on his contract.

Can they reject the option or is it 10% in our court?

THB's instagram story after the play-off final was enough for me.

Not sure if I saw that (don’t use Insta-bollox). Was it positive or negative?

You seem to be forgetting THB's fairly long and detailed Instagram post...

Stephens has no presence on social media so wouldn't really have expected anything from him.

Ah fair enough, although I was thinking more about a comment on the Saints OS. That said, perhaps they were advised not to say more. Interesting that THB makes the point that the players knew nothing - I do wonder if they’re that closeted.

My order of preference was

1. Sign Peretz

2. Retain Jander

3. Retain Scienza

4. Retain THB

5. Retain Charles

If we do manage to sign Peretz, that'll be a massive boost. He was outstanding, best keeper we've had in a long time.

Not too concerned about Larin, was good at times, frustrating a bit too though.

If we are going to own Spygate properly, and want to build a siege mentality; then a move for 40 year old free agent Sergio Ramos would be interesting.

Get him quickly up to date with what's happened over the last few weeks, and make him captain!

Let the shithousery begin!

If Everton want Shea, they will need more than dibbling monies!! Shea has proved on the field he has far more about him than Dibs. A full international, strength and size to be a robust player in PL, has a calmness and composure and assist and goals...fking awsome, worldie GOALS!!!

So 50m or fk off dug-out boys, you set the precident!

We ain't getting anywhere near 50M for Charles.  I'm not sure if it's only 1 or 2 years left on his contract but he's unproven at PL level and wasn't even a guaranteed starter for us throughout our unbeaten run.  I reckon around the 20M mark.

Yukinari Sugawara’s loan spell in Germany with SV Werder Bremen was a massive success, establishing him as a crucial piece of their backline for the 2025–26 season.

Unlike Damion Downs' quieter stint, Sugawara got a tremendous amount of game time and consistency. Here is how his season shook out:

An Undisputed Starter: He was an absolute mainstay at right-back, racking up 31 Bundesliga appearances (starting 29 of them) and playing well over 2,400 minutes.

The Creative Threat: While he didn't manage to get on the scoresheet himself (0 goals), his attacking output from the flank was highly productive. He provided 6 assists over the course of the season, frequently turning into one of Bremen’s best outlets for creating chances.

A Dramatic Finish: The only real blemish on a stellar campaign came right at the very end. In a match against Hoffenheim on May 9, he picked up a straight red card just 4 minutes into the game, which left him suspended for the final match of the season against Borussia Dortmund.

Overall, he was highly rated throughout the year (averaging a solid 6.8 FotMob rating). His loan agreement from Southampton includes an option to buy, and given how vital he was to Bremen's system this season, the German club has a big decision to make before he is technically scheduled to head back to England in July.

Chat begs to differ

Great. Hopefully that means they sign him because IMO he's shite. Our problem (and most clubs to be fair) is when a player doesn't work out, they are very difficult to shift. I'd happy see him go, along with Roerslev, who I never fancied. There are quality players out there - you just need a space in the squad (and available wages) to get the chance to bring them in.

I was reading the Werder Bremen forum (yes I speak German, I just have to use Google Translate to do it 😁). Their fans really want Werder to take up their 6 million purchase option on Sugawara as he's been consistent but apparently they don't have the funds without selling someone. Their option to sign him is up at the end of the month. With Yuki at the WC it may benefit us if they don't take up their option if he has a decent tournament. I can't see him back at Saints, that's for sure.

Anyone at Werder we would want in a swap deal?

Wasn't THB the first player to comment?

As I’ve said above, that was on Instagram which I don’t subscribe to - I was thinking more along the lines of an OS statement.

It must just be me who doesn’t really see it - the ‘moments’ he’s had this season are what will get him a big move, but i don’t think we’re much weaker without him at all, he feels like a passenger too often to me.

I think I understand what you mean, but I’m not sure there’s another player on our books who can do what he does as a box to box midfielder, particularly on the edge of the box waiting for an opportunity to score - which let’s face it, he does spectacularly more often than not.

It isnt. I said a few days ago he isnt even really an established top 6 championship player yet, let alone ready for the premier league. He wasnt first choice for us last season and rightly so. He's obviously got something, scored some cracking and important goals and still only young so YHGTI but i dont see him getting much game time in the premier league next season if he moves on. His hype is much greater than his output so far.

He has also been more effective off the bench than when he starts

Talking about our summer exedous.......Thank you Leicester, you remind me how shite things can  really get!!

Any worth nibbling on in that lot?

Yes ... We have a couple of real numpties running the show & we are not likely to see any changes anytime soon.

We do have some good young players but most of the older players are over paid & over rated.

The same reason why west ham signed Fernandes. Not that I want any of their players.

For such a complete cm, I seem to have missed his goals/assists in that game

i certainly remember the Leicester where he was dragged off after 45 minutes for actively playing for Leicester.

He does seem to have struggled when it’s a three game week, as was the case at Leicester. But for almost all of the unbeaten run he was superb, there’s a reason he started against Arsenal and City and Shea didn’t, just watch the Azaz goal against City to see the role he plays. Presumably you don’t rate Downes either if you care about goals and assists.

Worth noting, if not already, that relegated West Ham are demanding a reported £80 million for Mateus Fernandes.. and we just happen to have a 15% sell on fee, might come in handy….

No I rate both types of midfielder and think the variety is important. For much of the unbeaten run him and Shea were rotating starts.

Think the 15% only applies to the difference between what we sold him for and what West Ham get for him so wouldn't be on £80k if that is indeed what they get.

Don’t forget the full payment they will need to pay us for the transfer.

Can’t see them still paying instalments if he’s not there anymore.
