SaintJackoInHurworth Posted Wednesday at 09:01 Posted Wednesday at 09:01 So, the European transfer window has slammed shut, almost metaphorically trapping Ramsdale's fingers in the process(!): Saints have now got: Peretz Long Jones So, Ramsdale is surplus to requirements (even though he is clearly a better keeper than 2 or 3). Presumably there must be some plan for Ramsdale now...? Which transfer windows are still open? I am guessing the Middle East. Is there any news suggesting he is about to go there? Or where else could he go? Is the American window still open?
chiknsmack Posted Wednesday at 09:56 Posted Wednesday at 09:56 Not to go all MLG on you, but there are still European options (Netherlands today, Scotland/Belgium for a couple more days) plus Turkey. https://www.transfermarkt.com/statistik/transferfenster
JWade Posted Wednesday at 11:08 Posted Wednesday at 11:08 Really surprised that nobody came in for him. But for me it seems ridiculous to not use him if he's here, feels like we are cutting our nose off to spite our face. Unless there's some kind of financial implications if he appears regularly, then he should be in that squad and probably starting, he's the best keeper at the club. 7

Most contracts have significant bonuses for being in the match day squad, playing, win bonuses etc. Hence why McCarthy was never in the squad in the promotion season until Baz got injured, and was then promoted up to starting keeper. I'm certain Ramsdale would be in the squad if there wasn't a significant cost associated with it. Be interesting to see what would happen if Peretz got injured (assuming Ramsdale doesn't go on loan to Turkey) 2

bangkoksaint Posted Wednesday at 11:34 Posted Wednesday at 11:34 Best keeper we have. If playing him gets us promotion and it cost a few million more in wages then thats money well Spent. Hope we dont regret it 2
Saint Pete Posted Wednesday at 11:46 Posted Wednesday at 11:46 Celtic have just signed keeper Sam Johnstone from Wolves so that's a potential route for him closed off.
East Kent Saint Posted Wednesday at 12:15 Posted Wednesday at 12:15 There must be a reason that the football world is shunning a player so what don’t we know ?

Lord Duckhunter Posted Wednesday at 14:13 Posted Wednesday at 14:13 Not playing him & freezing him out isn’t just about saving match squad bonus’ it’s also about forcing him out the door in the Jan window. Once he’s spent 4 months sat in the stands every match day, any offer in Jan will be better than another 4 more months of that. If he was number 2, involved match days, helping Peretz prepare, on the pitch, in the dressing room, there maybe moves/loans he considers a worse option than that, especially if he’s interested in coaching eventually. I imagine we told him to find another club otherwise he’ll be frozen out, so we need to stick to that. I’ve no doubt he’ll play if Peretz is out long term. But we’re forcing him out otherwise .

Yes, but what do you say to Peretz and Long who were made promises when they were signed? He did at least turn out for the U21s the other day. In hindsight the Club were too quick off the mark to sign Peretz. It's a shame what has happened to Ramsdale, seems like his career has gone down the drain since he decided to sign for us.
RedArmy Posted Wednesday at 14:47 Posted Wednesday at 14:47 He needs a new agent if he doesn’t get a move in the next couple of days. 3

Wade Garrett Posted Wednesday at 15:44 Posted Wednesday at 15:44 He should 100% be in the reckoning if he doesn't get his move. Very decent keeper, and Peretz has been a bit shaky so far this season. 4

markr27 Posted Wednesday at 17:08 Posted Wednesday at 17:08 I think this chap may be imprinted on his reputation....
Willo of Whiteley Posted Wednesday at 17:24 Posted Wednesday at 17:24 If he is still here after those windows have closed I will be surprised; but on the flip side I won’t. In terms of form and ability over recent years he’s hardly done anything to justify someone taking on his stupidly high wages, so he’s within his rights to sit on his hands and do nothing. If he wants to go and play football, then like Sam Edozie needs to do, take the financial hit, it’s not like you need it, and go and play elsewhere. If he is still here it would be a bit scandalous to not even have him on the bench ahead of George Long.
SambaMaverick Posted Wednesday at 17:29 Posted Wednesday at 17:29 Get rid for anything close to a reasonable loan offer. Having two top keepers doesn't work, we all know it. We've made our bed with Peretz, correctly in my opinion. He's our man and he should be backed. Dropping him at any point opens a whole new can of worms. 1
St Chalet Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Excellent point made by @stevegrant on TSP that Peretz is the #1 Long #2, but if Ramsdale is still in the building and something happens to Peretz, Ramsdale would be promoted to first choice. Hopefully he fancies some Saudi or Turkish money. 3

The Kraken Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Sounds like Tonda expects him to stay and maybe play for the U21s until at least January. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c9v9elp98gro

die Mannyschaft Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago If he's that good ; why isn't he playing for Saints? Why has no one from Europe, Prem or championship put bid in? Is he stuck in no man's land because we paid over the odds for him and wages too high? Club obviously dong think he's better than Peretz otherwise wouldn't have signed a new keeper to dit on bench while we already have a bench keeper (that's not even kn the bench) This is the strangest keep situation in football.

You cannot realistically argue that Long is a better keeper than Ramsdale and it would be damaging to our chances of promotion to pick Long if we have a far better keeper sitting there doing nowt.
St Chalet Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago Congratulations to the U21's on conceding the fewest goals in the league. 1
AlexLaw76 Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago A couple of howlers from Peretz and this may get a little awkward. Not that I think Peretz will regress like that, but you never know

Badger Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago (edited) The fact the club chose not to play Long in the Carabao Cup v West Ham speaks volumes in how far they’d trust him for a first team appearance. Edited 2 hours ago by Badger 1
RedArmy Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Not sure I agree with not letting Ramsdale compete to be the number 1 to be honest. Competition for places is healthy, no matter what the position. And the idea that Peretz was promised the number 1 spot and that’s one of the reasons is frankly irrelevant, if he got offered a bigger move in January or next summer he would be on the first flight out of here. Pick your best players. 1

Pick your best players. I agree that Peretz starts the season as first choice. But after the season gets going it’s his job to ensure he performs well enough to stay there. On merit. Injury or drop on form then we select the best available at the club. Doubt it will be George Long or a 38 year old from Warrington

It could be we have to pay him some sort of appearance money if he plays, and the club either don’t want to can’t afford to pay it. It could be something like that. It's an odd situation. What's for certain is Saints will have been more than keen to offload at least some of his wages by moving him on. He must still be one of, if not the, highest earners at the club so it's a disaster really from their point of view if he's still here, particularly after they have signed another quality keeper in Peretz for a fee and a significant wage. I can't believe there has been no interest at all in Ramsdale so (total guesswork on my part) I wonder whether there has been some reluctance from Ramsdale himself to explore or take up options to leave on loan this time for reasons unknown (his family situation might play into that)? If that were the case, what's going on now could perhaps be the club gently applying a boot to his backside to encourage him to take up any late offers from Saudi etc by telling him privately and now publicly that if he stays he won't be playing a meaningful role on the pitch for us? As I say, pure guesswork / conjecture on my part!
