New manager already approached

Mixed emotions - apart from all the ifs, buts and maybes before such a thing could happen, it is just one more change when we need some sort of continuity. I have a pretty good idea, as I have mentioned previously, that it will be the Wigley/Gray dream team with Merrington as Director of Football and Branfoot running the academy.

I'd actually feel sorry for Wotte. I think in difficult circumstances, he has handled himself very professionally

I agree at the end of the season I would have taken him to the airport but he has done well in the circumstances and done what needed doing. unless someone new is appointed he could resort back to being in charge of the aademy/reserves

Oh gawd - no. Is it because he has a decent yokel accent because I can't imagine it is anything to do with past success?
It probably is because he lives in christchurch and them down there are putting 2+2 and making 5, but he does go the both clubs quite alot.Of course it depends who is the eventual buyer

It would be news if a potential owner hadn't approached a manager.

If someone is planning to take over within a week or two they should have a full infrastructure ready to go so there must be a few people out there with half a job offer on the table.

Never nice for anyone who must know that their job is on the line and there is absolutely nothing they can do about it. He has maintained the same dignified & committed approach that Nigel Pearson showed at the end of the previous season (when he too must have known that his job was in doubt). What Wotte will also know is that by taking this approach to the current situation he will not be jeopardising any future employment opportunities, indeed it can only enhance his chances. I wish him well for the future and think that he will find employment elsewhere quite quickly. It is of little consolation but he will surely know that football managment is a precarious occupation and that very very few people stay at one club for long (and his successor will only be doing to him what he did to his predecessor).

As most posters have already stated, we need a change from top to bottom, new management & new players and that should bring a new attitude which I do hope will bring the success that this club needs.

That logical sequence went out the window when Fry was appointed, think its important the new owners have 'their' man in place then we may have continuity, it would be pointless for them to support Wotte pre season or to simply 'give him a go' and give him the bullet say 5 games in, whilst they have the opportunity to make a clean sweep imo they should do so(as long as the appointment is an improvement of course)

Despite the p1ss take Dalek gets, I would also like to see Hoddle.

Other choice but highly unlikely would be Shearer. Although he hasn't made an imediate impact at Newcastle, I do like the tough stance he has set out. Problem with that is the ego's of premiership players getting in the way. At our level, I think it would work a lot better, especially with the younger players who will look up to him more.

I'd personally rather have Wotte than Cotterill.

Tisdale could be a decent shout, young coach bit of history with Saints.

Keegan would be amazing. It would not only galvanise the club as he would play football the way it should be played and motivate the players, but it would also mean to club has a fair amount of cash to spend in the transfer market as he wouldnt join otherwise, so I doubt very much it will be him.

Graeme Souness is moving back down to Hampshire, but I think it is more for personal business reasons rather than Soouthampton Football Club.

Hopefully Keegan, I'd settle for Tisdale but I think we should be careful in replcaing Wotte for just anybody. I think he is a decent coach and could potentially do a decent job if we have the means to back him a little bit in the transfer market.

I agree with you, although still think a clean sweep is required.

I would have no objection to Wotte continuing as Academy Director for the remaining year of his contract and seeing how that pans out.

As for replacements,if it is a contact of MLT's then possibly Tisdale,or even Dowie.Hope its Tisdale, although Cotterill is a more likely candidate.Dread it being Ince .

I've just heard some strange news from somebody I know in Cambridgeshire

Apparantely, Cambridge have given permission for Gary Brabin to speak to an unnamed League 1 club.

Rumours are that it could be Saints

You must be mad. It would be better to have a young ambitious talented manager than someone with that amount of negative baggage. Somebody in the Aidy Boothroyd mould perhaps.

I'm not mad at all. He got Newcastle playing well towards the end of last season and got a good result against Man Utd and Bolton this season before he left.

He also wouldnt come unless there was money to spend as well, which is why I think it would be amazing.

There are still a multitude of players out there who would want to play for him and his record of promotion is second to none.

Trouble is that as we found out to our cost, the football in the CCC is miles away from football in the Prem. The football in Div 3 is even further away and requires a different type of management. I suspect that many established Prem managers would struggle to be successful in that division.

Hope Powell.
Now that would be a turn up for the books. It would be ground breaking to have a woman managing a professional mens team *but* I don't think we can afford to be taking a risk in this regard in our current predicament (cue accusations of sexism). Edited by kpturner

Dont think there is anything wrong with any of that and the last comment is pretty spot on too IMO.

Wotte showed a better ballence of youth and experience and to be fair to the guy the players he had at his disposal let him down more than his tactics did. With a good clear out and a couple choice buys/loans together with a good pre-season and I think he could do as well as the other names we would realisticly be looking at.

I wouldnt be disapointed if he stayed or went. More interested in what the players we have/still have do about next season as I think they have a bit of appologising to do. best way they can do that is results. If a take over happens then they shouldnt have an excuse.

Keegan lost it a long time ago

he was wrong to go back to Newcastle - he was out of touch and well past his sell by date

sure he did a great job at Fulham, Newcastle the first time around and City - but he seems to hit a wall - and then quit under pressure

if he'd still been in real football when Newcastle came calling he might have been up to it - but he wasn't - and was out of touch and living in a different era

a big mistake on all sides!
