Gravesend Saint Posted 24 July, 2009 Share Posted 24 July, 2009 Bearing in mind APs comments today it seems that he hasn't and his performance against Hearts could determine if we offer him a contract. the saint in winchester Posted 24 July, 2009 Share Posted 24 July, 2009 OK. I too was wondering what the status was with Murty, also with Stern John to whom we offered a contract. Has be accepted? Asked if he can consider it for a month? You can't rush a man from the Carribean, clearly. :-)

red&white56 Posted 25 July, 2009 Share Posted 25 July, 2009 Maybe he's using the word "professional" not just for Murty but also to send a signal to the whole squad about his expectations of players at SFC. IMO, so far, so good !

M271 Posted 25 July, 2009 Share Posted 25 July, 2009 If AP hasn't made his mind up about Murty he can't have impressed that much in training and you would have thought that AP had some historical knowledge of him. We don't want players that might be OK only those that are OK, this is what got us lumbered with realitively high earning reserve team players in the past. Wants to see him in a match situation, hence why he is playing today I understand. If he did not think he was any good he would not be playing him and he would have gone, hence I would say he HAS impressed him in training, the game situation is the final test if you like. Reference to professional is clearly because we are not paying him...

I take your point but he did see him play V Ajax last week (I have to say that I was under impressed), maybe he wants to see how Murty has responded to his coaching and training this week i.e. is he capable of playing how AP wants him to and with the stamina to get through a match. No, they've been on general sale since the off. 1st Aug is the date at which new season ticket purchasers can buy a previously owned seat which hasn't been renewed. I believe. Maybe the quality of Ajax was a bigger test than Hearts will present and he wants to judge the guy against players of closer quality to what we will face week in week out. At the end of the day the guy just needs to be good enough for L1 and Hearts are going to be closer to that standard than Ajax were.
oxfordshire_saint Posted 25 July, 2009 Share Posted 25 July, 2009 AP is probably waiting to see how much he can improve his fitness in a short space of time. There's clearly a few extra pounds he needs to shift before he can be considered for a contract. I for one hope that he does manage to do enough, he's a good communicator and if he can get himself fit he could be very useful.

Dannyboy_Saint Posted 25 July, 2009 Share Posted 25 July, 2009 I agree was very good today. Kept their big winger under close watch all game and broke forward well providing 3 or 4 fantastic crosses from the byline. One of which led to Rasiaks second goal and another that should have been a goal only it spooned off of Mills shin and over the bar.

Big_Bald_Si Posted 25 July, 2009 Share Posted 25 July, 2009 Sign him up - great leader, talking to all the younger players and puts in a good cross. Not quite there on fitness - the cross for Rasiaks 2nd goal was awesome - although it took him about 20 minutes to get back to his right back position

paulwantsapint Posted 25 July, 2009 Share Posted 25 July, 2009 Jason Dodd once said that the younger players saw him as the moaning old git at rb could Murty become the next moaning old git captain at rb? Roger Posted 25 July, 2009 Share Posted 25 July, 2009 He is like doddy. He disguised his lack of pace with his fab positional sense. His crosses were brilliant and leadership too. Sign him up.

Sign him up. He's nothing like Doddsy. I'd sign him on that performance but we'd to sacrfifice a genuine winger on the right side to accommodate him - it takes him half hour to get back from the oppo half! Luckily his crosses are good enough that most of the time he can jog back because we've just scored a goal.

Saint Fan CaM Posted 25 July, 2009 Share Posted 25 July, 2009 I thought Murty was fantastic for us today - he really looked like he wanted to play for us and surely must have won a contract. The defence looked quite balanced and composed. Murty clearly has excellent experience on his side - his anticipation and positioning shone through (leading to the third goal). He actually has some pace and frankly if he was to get just a little fitter, he really would be top class. Sign him now.

Heard him say 2nd half 'up, up, get up the ****ers!' wow leadership at it's best :-) Really shone today. Delivery was fantastic. I'd agree with all that. TBF he had shown good pace bombing down the wing twice in as many minutes, before that struggle to get back after crossing. I thought he was going to throw up, he looked so knackered LOL
The boy done well Posted 25 July, 2009 Share Posted 25 July, 2009 Murty's definitely worth a contract. We actually had 2 full backs out there today and what a difference it made. Not sure when that last happened. Don't think the Dutch revolution ever had any full backs!
Saint_lambden Posted 25 July, 2009 Share Posted 25 July, 2009 Was impressed with Murty today, as soon as he plays more games to get match-fit he will be able to compete every week in League 1. Great cross for the 2nd goal and looked solid defensively. The Left-hand side was impressive as well, Harding and Mills are a good partnership, hopefully that is the left flank sorted

Wes Tender Posted 25 July, 2009 Share Posted 25 July, 2009 As I said in the other thread, IMO he was man of the match. How refreshing to see a RB get to the byeline and put in such devastating crosses into the box. It was bread and butter for Rasiak in particular. Several times I also noted that his passing was into areas that caused the Jambos' defence problems and he was also good with the throw-ins too. I also think that he reminded me a lot of Dodd, in that although a yard short of pace, that extra yard is in his head in anticipation and positioning. It was very seldom throughout the entire game that anybody got the better of him. Sign him up, Alan. He is a born winner.

under the west stand Posted 26 July, 2009 Share Posted 26 July, 2009 Very impressed. The type of player Saints haven't had for a generation. Short, stocky, good solid in defence - explosive runs out of defence. A Saints player who knows where the byline is! Tommy Traynor / Stuart Williams? Should be signed up asap
SW11_Saint Posted 26 July, 2009 Share Posted 26 July, 2009 Thought Murty looked good yesterday. Clearly has more fitness to gain, but certainly didn't struggle on that front. Got up the line well, delivered some excellent crosses and linked up with midfield very well, I think he'd be a great addition. Also clearly brings some great leadership qualities. I am sure Kelvin wants to hang onto the captaincy, but Murty would be a great choice in my book too. Other than the general marshalling of the team, he stepped in to mediate in a spat between Wooton and Thomas. Sign him up Pards!

Bailey Posted 26 July, 2009 Share Posted 26 July, 2009 He might be old but he's got experience and he's totally committed. the saint in winchester Posted 27 July, 2009 Share Posted 27 July, 2009 In other words why did he let himself go (weight!) over the summer...not very professional. Give him a chance. He had 6 to 9 months out with a serious injury at Reading, so hadn't kicked a ball in anger until he came to us. By all accounts, he put in a sterling performance on Saturday and I hope he is offered a contract.
