King Alfred trouble

Walking passed after the game to see a window damaged and it kicking off inside, anyone know more ?

4 middle aged Yeovil fans, minding their own business, were having a drink when they were attacked by a bunch of Saints fans who weren't kids themselves. It was all a bit spasmodic - the Yeovil fans climbed over the railings to get away but one got caught and was getting a kicking. Two coppers were in the vicinity but they froze and were very pathetically slow or even reluctant to intervene.

All very sad imo.

I was walking past at the same time and I saw a couple of police piling in but I had a bus to catch so I just kept walking. 50 yards up the road I heard a few shouts of 'green army' and some drongo was mouthing off to the effect of 'how are the mighty fallen' (not his words) and how pitiful it was that we could only beat Yeovil 2-0. Most people were just giving him a strange look and walking on by. These days most of us are grateful for anything we can get.

Sounds like he deserved a kicking IMO

Not quite how I saw it. Didn't see how it started by the time I got back to the KA at the end of the game but they certainly didn't seem to help themselves. There was more than four and a couple kept coming back over the railings mouthing off and ended up getting a bit of a pasting. They were then followed back towards town by quite a few so I'd imagine it didn't end there

I saw it and have to say Fitzhugh Fella called it about right. 1 of the Yeovil 4 who got the kicking understandably and foolishly wanted to have a go back but the pathetic police moved them on and in fact it was the other 3 who in the end dragged the aggrieved fan up the road. He was a bit miffed but can you blame him? BTW the idiot in the Saints yellow away shirt who stood behind the protection of the two truncheon wielding pc's baiting and looking oh so hard - it may be time you grow up a bit and allow people to go about thier lives without fear of intimidation.

Personally, I thought we had a decent fanbase but we also have a minority of idiots and we are not talking posturing hoodies who it seems to me after a game are looking for any excuse to fight and I use that in word in the loosest of terms. Is having a quiet beer in a pub close to the ground now an excuse to invite a kicking from the inhabitants of our fair city?

I'm sure its on CCTV and the police and the club should view the footage. identify and call those in to account for their actions. Fans who get involved in violence outside the ground should be treated the same as if they are caught in the ground and banned or warned dependent on the seriousness. 3 warnings and you can go and find another club because they should never be allowed back in again as all their actions do is store up trouble for future games and destroy completely the questionable 'family club' tag we have.

I too saw trouble on Northam Road. Cannot believe the police officers were being criticised. There were only 2 or 3 there at the time, very very intimidating having at least 20 if not 30 drunk and aggressive louts in front of you hell bent on attacking 3 or 4 guys. Imagine yourself in that situation especially if you are a special constable !

Fair point and obviously that was after I moved on because the scum hadn't swelled by that point. Amazing how brave and big a couple pints of Stella can make you feel with 30 of your club neanderthals goading you on.

The body language of all those decent fans walking by the scene was either one of embarrassment and shame to be wearing the same shirt or ironic and resigned smiles and much head shaking. We don't need these idiots as supporters and if they can use CCTV for number plate recognition they can use it to identify our merry band of mouthy, handbag, wielding louts.

I'm getting pretty fed up of coming on here after everygame to hear that there has been yet more bother - I 100% agree with you NC,in that these idiots who are using our good clubs name in order to just trol around looking for fights should be brought to account and made an example of. This little throwback to the seventies/ eighties needs to be stamped out pretty bloody quickly.

I was one of those guys you're talking about....with headphones on listening to reaction to our first victory.....now minus 2 blah blah blah.....then guy in front of me is on his mobile phone shouting ' its all kicking off, get down ere ' using his one brain cell.

As I walked on, another saints fan with huge smile on his face (so excited, saying that the away fan had been given a good kicking' in the head. How nice ! I was gonna ask him how he thought Waigo played, bad time to ask I guess. He was too busy !

I then see that fan lying in the road not moving.....He could have been killed by that mob !

The next complaint on here will be that games are too heavily policed. They can't win.

We've always had such an excellent reputation as trouble free fans over many years. 14 arrests in total were the stats for last season at the dell. We're heading for that level at each game now !

Absolutely, and in the past I think the club have been woeful in accepting some reponsibility for the actions of their customers after the game and off their premises. I hope this changes and their meetings with the police actually do something positive and not just leave it to the police, although as you allude to some of these idiots may not even be at the game but busy sniffing the barmaids apron for some big mouth 'courage'.

I agreee it's a sad state of affairs that only the club and police can address together and for the club to dish out punishments to those at the game and for the police to deal with the rest. If some type of warning/points system doesn't work then just go zero-tolerance and life bans. The trouble with issuing warnings some of these morons will see it as a girl guide collects badges. I'm no expert in these matters or know how often the club meet with the police but I am sure doing nothing or maintaining their current policy is not an option because as you say it's getting worse.

Great post. Hopefully the majority would agree with this. The club has gone through the mill over the last couple of years, and now, as we have great backing and are building a successful team, the last thing that we need is to be associated with is football violence.

The Spirit of Southampton and Family Club are terms synonimous with the club - for them to remain so, there is absolutely no room for the mindless thug element.

Saw a bit of trouble past king alfreds on the stretch of dual carridgeway before the traffic lights. a few yeovil fans (couldn't have been more than 4-5) were being gobby, a punch was thrown and about 20+ of our lot immediately jumped them and it was lambs to the slaughter from then on.

One yeovil fan -white shirt, bald head, was left behind and had his head stamped on, serving as kicking practise for passing fans. The OB were nowhere and when they did arrive, dragged some lad who from my vantage point was innocent.

All in all, a bit cheap on our part, especially since it was a total mismatch numbers-wise and their lot weren't organised. Just a few strays being gobby which quickly turned into a feeding frenzy. Nothing more, nothing less.

From my point of view as I was walking past the Alfred about 6 yeovil fans already with bloody noses and mouths were climbing over the railing to get away, they then turned and started gobbing off to everyone, especially a young fellow in a green shirt, by this time Saints "fans" had caught up with them and started kicking and punching, one yeovil fan went down and about 3 -4 saints "fans" layed into him kicking his head etc, A couple of the Saints fans ended up cuffed and arrested by the law, the remaining yeovil fans were then escorted by the boys in blue up the road... Why dont they station coppers by the Alfred, it seems to kick of there every game now. is it because the away fans are welcome before the game, and then they go in there after the game when there is a different set of customers looking for the trouble !!

Having walked past just as the Yeovil fans had clambered over the barrier up onto the road one of them was shouting at his mate to get away, but he wasnt having any of it and wanted to go back for more ! All very sad and stupid.

The police officers stood between the railings and the pub were quite frankly pathetic, they just stood there and did nothing.....at worst they should have escorted those Yeovil fans away for their own safety, at best they should have made some arrests.....but they were like statues !

There is absolutely no excuse or place for this kind of behaviour. Football or more accurately "team allegiance" is just the vehicle used by these morons. Fighting at any time is pathetic and sad, fighting under the guise of being a football supporter is worse.

Of course, people and in particular sports/football fans will always banter and debate and occassionally this will get heated BUT only a certain type of person will fight to sorrt it out....they are not welcome in society let alone St Marys IMHO.

As I walked away from the stadium today, there werre a few Yeovil Fans behind me openly slagging "my club" off. Choices..1) IGNORE 2) React angrily and see how it goes from there...3) Acknowledge their points and quip funnily - stuns, silents and calms the situation.

IF, I had been a moron or others around them were morons then more fighting would have occurred....instead, a short friendly conversation took place.

What a lot of sh!te people spout on here. A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing.

I was in the KA having a quiet beer when about 12-15, yes 12-15, very drunk and abusive Yeovil fans started causing trouble. When they were confronted they got violent throwing chairs and glasses and it was the Saints fans who had to defend themselves. I don't agree with what went on outside afterwards but people should know that the Yeovil fans weren't blameless.

Even at quarter to six there were coppers with dogs at the station - heavy presence on the platforms as well.

TBH some right tossers (Yeovil) were getting on my train back to Lymington - one middle aged git barged on the train before people had got off, past OAP's and people with kids - why? To get a table.

Another's kid walked into our carriage with his Yeovil shirt on only for his dad to shout - 'Don't go in there - they're all divers' - in Worzelesque tone.

Pathetic.

As far as the Alfred is concerned, the same thing happened at the Brentford game - I think to be honest the source of the problem is the club no longer keeping the away team fans in after. Now they get out the same time to mingle and provoke - the Brentford lot were after a punch up from the time they were walking up the steps over the walkway towards Northam Rd.

TBF our fans ignored them. Until they carried on by the Alfred.

BTW, there was one bloke carried into an ambulance at Northam Rd Xroads - don't know if he was the Yeovil one or not.

I think we're getting more of this now because half these teams just want to put one over on us (footballing wise) and some idiots think the same about fighting.

All very 80's - just do it on a bit of wasteland away from everyone else - beat the sh1te out of each other if you like, but it's a problem we don't need at our club.

It ain't Saintly.

I briefly saw what happened outside and after the four got out onto the road it wasn't pretty to see one put in a neck-lock and hauled back in and given a punching.

On the other hand if they had got out and just left the scene that would have been the end of it. They seemed intent in shouting back at the pub from the apparent safety of the road. The two coppers I saw clearly weren't going to break into a sweat to get there and I don't all together blame them.

After that I left; standing there rubbernecking seemed a bit distasteful. I hope all concerned do get what's coming to them. We don't need this sort of thing at football any more imho.

Anyone know anymore about this? I sit fairly near and there was a lot of commotion and someone was escorted out by stewards' date=' be interesting to know why?[/quote']

Wouldn't surprise me if it was a racist thing, happened just as the subs (Waigo) were coming on, and then a brawl breaks out next to me, last for about 2 minutes and then the stewards escorted a guy out, with a black guy running down the stairs after him.

I FIND THE ATTITUDE THAT VIOLENT BEHAVIOUR SHOULD BE TOLERATED IN ANY SHAPE OR FORM IN A CIVILISED SOCIETY TOTALLY REPUGNANT.

I wish the police would take firm action and magistrates should always impose a custodial sentence of at least 6 months served.

I don't care who the supporters are, why is football the only sport associated with violence?

Didn't see what happened in the Northam, just there was something going on, everyone was looking but couldn't see anything from where I was. Then a few blokes got escorted out followed by most of us in that area giving them the 'w*nker, w*nker, w*nker' chant, so he must have done something pretty stupid. If it is racism then they should be banned for life, racism is worse than violence.
