Gingeletiss Posted 9 October, 2010 Share Posted 9 October, 2010 From the sun, the listings of banning orders for the 2008-2009 season. We made 54th with 19 orders, our fishy fiends from the island of incest, made it 6th with 88 orders. Beaten only by those paragons of virtue, Leeds 162...Cardiff 124...Milwall 110...Newcastle 99...and Wolves 98. Liverpool crept in at 9th and Manure 10th. See, we're not such a bad lot after all;)

Danny R Posted 9 October, 2010 Share Posted 9 October, 2010 Ha ha. What a shame for our wannabe hoolies and the 'yoof'. Family club, always will be. Surely the Skates are pound for pound the worst, looking at attendances etc.
1976_Child Posted 9 October, 2010 Share Posted 9 October, 2010 ****ing yoof of today can't do anything right. 54th is a ****ing disgrace. the yoof need to stop having choir practice in the northam singing bloody songs about washing skate's mouths out and get their hoodies out and actually start bashing a few teeth in. Bloody hell if Barney is going to go to all the (alleged) trouble of providing solid leadership in this area then the bloody least our yoof can do is step up and help get us up the hooligan league table. 54th? pathetic, wouldn't have happened in my day. View From The Top Posted 9 October, 2010 Share Posted 9 October, 2010 Most of the skate banning orders, 50 odd IIRC, were from their riot after they played us at FP. VectisSaint Posted 9 October, 2010 Share Posted 9 October, 2010 The banning orders dished out after the last derby game are yet to be included. These things tend not to be back dated, it would be silly to include orders from a game last week in stats from 2008-9 season.

We do have a good support, but in my world Saints should sell all their home tickets every week. People just make excuses not to come but they'll come scurrying back if we get to the Premier League. How was Brighton today? Hope none of your fans left early and missed the penalty which I hear was incredibly dodgy. Maybe you'll stop moaning about soft penalty's now? That would be nice. To sum up: We sold more because we have slightly moree interest in the game than most other games, especially knowing how much it means to the away fans. Millwall, West Ham, Leeds etc where sbast*ard places to go in the 80's and not many teams came away with a result, fans went their with their wits about them, tough place to go. I want other teams to fear coming here, to hate it and to know that to get a result you not only have to beat the team you have to beat the crowd too, sadly, i think we have a lot of pussies in our support so this will never happen. rocknrollman no2 Posted 9 October, 2010 Share Posted 9 October, 2010 I totally agree with you in wanting to make SMS an intimidating place for teams to come to,but i also see the other side of that when visiting away grounds. The police treat you like would be troublemakers and restrict your every movement.Away pubs dont let you in within a hundred miles of their ground. Also away fans are more likely to want to have a go,so eventually going to football becomes less appealing. I personally dont want us to go down this route.

Watching chavskatewannabes being hoisted by their own petards would be infinitely more fun than watching Saints play well against an honest, workmanlike club like Tranmere. Although, to be honest, I enjoyed yesterday's game more. The pre-pubescent yob element from the Northam visitors section were less in numbers but they were equally supportive of their team despite that. The figures may well be out of date, our BO's may have increased, but the same may also be true for many other clubs as well. Resultantly we may actually have fallen further down the 'bad boys' league table, which whilst pleasing most fans would obviously not sit so well with you. We all want SMS to be an intimidating place for other teams to play, I doubt there are many on here who feel that football violence or holiganism is the way to achieve that aim. You would probably find that many of the BO's were dished out for incidents that happened outside of stadia anyway, and therefore had no direct effect of what happens during any game. I doubt whether there are too many incidents inside grounds that any of the players on the field either see or actually take a blind bit of note of. Your aspirations for an intimidating atmosphere at SMS are shared, but to intimate that this can be achieved through 'yob culture' is, at best, misguided. The Dell was nosiey and hostile and most teams including the big boys didn't like coming here. Take out of it what you want and leave others to do the same. The Dell wasn't noisey and hostile!! I went to Dell most weeks from 1984 onwards and yes it could generate a decent atmosphere at times but it was rarely a hostile place to visit. People seem to hark back to some golden era at the Dell where there was a brillaint atmopshere every week. There wasn't, night games were better but most weeks the only singing came from the East Stand terrace and a small section at the back of the Milton under the family centre. I even remember the paper versions of the Ugly Inside fanzine saying there was little atmoshpere at the Dell in the early 90's. When the seats where installed the Archers end became the singing end and it probably was a bit noiser but to say it was hostile is a joke. Millwall is hostile, Leeds, West Ham, even Fratton Park. That 4-1 game in our relegation season you could tell by the look on the saints players faces they were initimdated in the tunnel before kick off, the game was lost before a ball had been kicked. Obviously i dont want away fans and players coming here fearing for the lives but i dont want them coming here thinking its a nice afternoon stroll in a nice stadium with happy clappy fans. I want teams to fear coming here, thinking they are going to be in for a rough ride from the moment the first whistle sounds. Big teams didn't like coming to the Dell because of the cramped conditions, not because they were intimidated by the supposedly hostile crowd. Leyton Lundekvam Posted 10 October, 2010 Share Posted 10 October, 2010 Turkish, those intimidating places you mention like Millwall, West Ham, etc are inner city clubs, in tougher urban areas. Elements of their support reflect that. I agree that St Mary's is probably far more pleasant to visit on the whole - i notice it every time i come down from london for games. However, as Gemmel points out it doesn't necessarily mean we can't be a fortress from a footballing perspective like we were at The Dell. In terms of our fan base we should just accept that really are more akin to the likes of Norwich etc and derive considerable support from more middle class towns in the area like Winchester etc. Realistically we're never gonna have a rep as a fan base for being particularly intimadating i'm afraid even if we wanted one. On the flip side, nor is the perception of us from the outside world that we are a bunch of c***s, which i for one am happy with as I don't like the aggro of being turned away from away pubs, treated like sh*t by the old bill and kept in behind after matches like a naughty school boy. Gemmel Posted 10 October, 2010 Share Posted 10 October, 2010 I think there is some truth in the "Hark back to the Golden Era" comment and yes, there's always the romantic flashbacks, that embellish the realities, but whatever way you dress it up, THe Dell, was noisy and was hostile....all this from a cute family club. Whatever made it that way (Crammed conditions etc.) is irrelevant. It was everything you say it wasn't and if i could be bothered a couple of mins on Google and I reckon i coudl find quotes from the top players and managers saying the same thing.
