benjii Posted 8 November, 2010 Share Posted 8 November, 2010 Will David Connolly be there? I, for one, would be interested to hear about the challenge of being the club's best striker whilst being somewhat injury prone.
Gemmel Posted 8 November, 2010 Share Posted 8 November, 2010 They should get ron down for this. Wait for Tim to come online - he'll know whether Ron is fit for travelling, would be a fantastic effort if we got him over. I'm guessing this isn't an official event - judging by some of the attendees

I'm guessing this isn't an official event - judging by some of the attendees seriously...we should really push the club to get him over IF he is up to it... seriously maybe we as fans could help (money wise) bring him over...I would chuck in a few quid to help

dronskisaint Posted 8 November, 2010 Share Posted 8 November, 2010 I wonder what Mr Cortese will make of this. He is very protective of the "Brand" I would think that he would know all about it - it's hardly a secret from the world if tickets are on sale (not sure how long they have been so before the OP picked up on it). I would relate it to a golfing day, evening with Lawrie & Le Tiss for Kevin Moore on a bigger scale. On a practical & PR note it would be difficult to disapprove af a charitable function celebrating the life of the club...I'd like to think they would work together on it but that may be optimistic! Interesting too that it will be 126 years in 2011:? NB - I've booked tickets & would happily contribute to a Big Ron air ticket fund (or a general one to get other ex-stars over)

Take that on board and weigh up the financial impact and you are in need of a far different adjective.

benjii Posted 11 November, 2010 Share Posted 11 November, 2010 TBF, I think the shirt was a clever marketing idea and I'm all in support of clever marketing ideas. It has sold in droves so clearly people like it or are too stupid not to buy something they don't like in which case they are ripe for a good marketing decision. Frankly, who really gives a **** about a 125 year anniversary? What about 120 years? 130? 135? 128?

To pretend it was some kind of generous donation because of how deeply Cortese felt about the history of SFC is absurd. No problem with it by the way and actually think it was a good idea, just don't pretend it was something it's not.
