Time for a "new kit" thread

We're only 2 months from the end of the season, which means two new Umbro kits for Saints will be rolling along fairly soon. Or if last season is anything to go by, in July and August.

Either way, the Umbro deal requires a new home and away shirt, plus we'll (hopefully) have a new sponsor, and will almost certainly be back to the red and white stripes for next season.

I was just wondering if anyone had seen or heard anything from new Umbro that might help us figure out what Saints will be wearing next season - or if anyone had any preferences.

All I can see from Umbro at the moment are variations of the 2009 England away template used by Man City, a bunch of south American sides and now Peru's third kit,

Peru_Umbro_Third_2011_2.jpg

and the varieties of the Umbro teamwear range

that includes the current Saints kit (also Sweden away below)

this Wrexham kit

wrexham-10-11-umbro-home-shirt-a.jpg, the Wrexham away kit (same style as the previous England away) and the 2009/10 efforts they had with Sunderland and Birmingham, which Saints have already used for their navy away that season.

There doesn't seem to be anything obviously new, though obviously with England getting a new home kit earlier in the season there will be an Umbro style based on this :

PS We're not really discussing the sash kit any more, we're going back to stripes, it would be very strange and unexpected if we didn't.

I like the look of the Wrexham shirt. that in yellow with blue trim would be a good away shirt.

But as part of their teamwear range it will also be a year old by then, and being worn by any parks team who has a spare £300 as well...

Umbro have been quite restrictive in what they're allowing pro teams to wear this season - there really are only about 4 designs in use even including the various Chilean and Peruvian teams they have under contract, and most of them are just the England red world cup shirt in slightly different colours. Even our sash kit was already a teamwear design with the sash going across the other shoulder (as you'll see on their teamwear link).

I'm just a bit surprised there aren't more NEW styles out there yet, as far as I know Blackburn, Sunderland, West Brom, Swansea, Rangers and Man City are currently with Umbro and I haven't heard that they're changing.

We won't look like Stoke, they're with adidas and their 2011/12 shirts are usually previewed by the MLS styles which are already being worn.

Ditch the white sash kit fast, and lets get back to our traditional red and white stripes. Clubs of substance do significantly change their traditional shirt every other season.

We HAVEN'T changed our traditional shirt every other season. Your hatred of the Sash shirt is sad and very worrying.

I'd be entirely happy if we retained the sash kit. We're uniquely different to most other teams kits now. I'll be happy to wear that shirt for years to come, especially as there is no sponsor on it. I seem to recall that a poll on here came out 50% or so in favour of keeping it.

was it just me but did the launch of the new england kit pass you lot by too?

Its looks identical to the one in the world cup. I got my lad one from sports direct for £6 as they wanted to clear them out.

Normally there is a big hoo ha about it

The new kit come out late last year and is very different to the kit England wore at the World Cup. It has a panel across the shoulders that features a load of multicoloured crosses and a baseball shirt style collar.

I coach a local kids team and you normally see kids coming to training in the new England kit (home or away) when it is launched, but I haven't seen anyone wearing the new one. I think that's partly down to the lower profile launch and partly because the shirt looks terrible.

That sweden kit looks class, would have loved that instead of the black away kit this season. I'll miss the sash when its gone but am looking forward to going back to our usual stripes though. Just my opinion but i'd like it if we regulary went from stripes to a different design then back to stripes again. Theres only so much you can do with a stripey shirt and some of our kits from the 80's are amongst my favourites, particulary the keegan one.

Does anyone know if the sash shirt will be sold at a reduced price towards the end of the season? I think I saw on here before that people had heard it would be sold at full price until all stock was sold.

If they've got a load left when the next kit goes on sale, they'll do it cheap.

Personally when this season finishes i'd keep it at full price but give half the money raised from sales of those shirts to the Saints Foundation.

They've managed to avoid it for three years so far... firstly by giving them white shoulder panels and a different collar on the same kit we had red shoulder panels on, then by us not changing kit unexpectedly in 2009 when they had a really generic plain V neck, then this season with our sash.

I'm assuming you meant "don't", but basically every team in the Premier League is now changing kits every season.

Spurs haven't kept the same one of any of their shirts for 2 years in a row since the early 00s.

I've heard they're not selling them off - I've also heard they're not getting any more in, which I actually think is a mistake for the sash kit, as it's a ready-made retro classic.

The current away kit is utter gash though, can't wait to see it go.

Putting a season old kit in the retro section would seem a bit silly to me.

And I agree about the away kit, it's like they couldn't be bothered.

Why is the England kit always so sh!t and boring, it seems to get worse and worse each time they regularly try to re-hash the dull, miserable plain white idea.

As for Saints - a modern take on the Keegan kit would be spot on - that is easily the coolest Saints kit there has ever been.

I'd agree with that but only if it doesn't have a sponsor and isn't tight fitting. There's nothing worse than a bunch of fat middle aged saints fans in tight fitting shirts

Er think we should look at our tradition for a change not other teams bollix to sundeland etc

Don't really know what you mean by this, I might be being a bit thick but surely these kits count as traditional seeing as we had them for about ten years, and the one on the left was when MLT was in some of his best form and the one on the right was our first sponsor (I think?)

I like the Sash kit. But TBH i will not really care, never bought a saints kit since i was about 16.

Have a couple of cheap football shirts to have kick abouts in, they tend to be Real Madrid shirts though.

Thinking about it, i think i like mainly white kits, which i think is the reason i really liked the sash kit this season. Its eye catching and distinctive. If we go back to stripes all teh time we are out of the Premiership people will confuse it for sunderland and stoke.

The sash could live on as an away kit, yellow with blue sash, as i also will miss it if it dissapears.

Agree with this. Didnt like the white shorts though, reckon they should have been red or black.

Dont see why we have to have stripes. I quite liked the quarter design.
