Can we catch them?

Brighton have got:

Dagenham & Redbridge (H); Walsall (A); Southampton (H); Colchester (A); Huddersfield (H); Notts County (A)

If they lose to us and Huddersfield, and draw at Colchester (who could still make play-offs) and Notts county (who are fighting to survive) and they beat daggers and walsall that will put them on 95 points

If we win all our games we will be on 95 points so would go down to goal diff.

But they could lose to us,Huddersfield and Colchester drawing with Notts county putting them on 94 points.

The race for the title is far from over imo.

Lol at this thread. Anybody who still thinks we can catch Brighton needs their heads seeing to. For us to catch them it would take a team who played in championship winning form all season to suddenly start playing like relegation candidates, never going to happen. Lets just focus on 2nd.

Like Leeds last season, who dropped from top to 5th after being nearly 10 points clear? ;)

Admittedly it was at an earlier point than this, but still.

I don't see what the difference is. Either way, we need to keep winning.

Me neither. We need to try and win every game now, regardless of whether we're chasing Brighton, 5 points clear of Udders or 5 points behind them.

Brighton have this league bought and paid for. If we catch them I will streak around Fratton on a match day.

Brighton are 100/1 ON for the title and bets are not being taken for them r.e promotion.

I think that clears this thread up.

Rochdale @ 14/1 looks a good bet for promotion as Bournemouth are a gonner the way they've imploded in recent weeks.

No chance really. Based on our last 8 played we have almost identical results. Both got 22 from 24 points. Which is amazing in itself. Brighton have been consistent from the start pretty much and i can't see them blowing a 13 point lead with only 6 games left. That would mean they would have to lose at least 4 of the 6. Seeing as they lost only 5 all season i think even the most positive of people have to say that would be very unlikely.

We just need to continue doing what we are doing. Concentrate on ourselves. We do that and we go up too.

5% chance of catching them I would say.

I'd agree with that.

Thought that they would have slipped up by now and we would have caught them but all credit to them, they have been consistently mowing down the opposition week in week out.

Just a shame we had such a terrible start. If we'd have started winning from August rather than the end of September then we'd be vying with them for the title now.

How many points have we stupidly squandered just by not being ready in time??

The club really needs to professionally prepare itself for next season.

I'm liking your optimism dazza, fair play to you mate.....but...

realistically, no.

Just a shame we had such a terrible start.

After the first 3 games we actually had the same results as them. We both got off to average starts. But from that point they have been consistent almost every weekend. In their last 20 games they have won 16 of them. Where as we won 13. Which in my opinion means there are no real excuses as to why they are ahead of us. They are just a better team this year then us.

Over the first 7 games of the season

Brighton: Won 4, drew 2, lost 1.

Saints: Won 1, drew 2, lost 4.

We've been neck and neck ever since.

The difference between us is that we had our usual poor start and they had a good one.

We must work on pre season and get our heads in the right place from day 1.

7 games would be what 15%-20% of the seasons games? I guess it depends on your definition of start really.

Personally i would say the first 3 or 4 games is the start. Most teams are up for the new season and squads getting used to new players. Which means teams can drop points as they get used to each other. Happened with us,Brighton and Huddersfield in that period.

Simply put, no.

They will go up as champions, and deservedly so. They've been the most consistent team throughout the course of the season, boast the only unbeaten home record in the Football League and have played some quality football along the way.

Be nice if we can get one over them at their place in a few weeks time, but there's no disgrace in losing to them based on the season they've had. We just need to worry about finishing 2nd, and if we do that, then the season has been a success!

We dropped 10 points at home in our first four home games though. Our away form wasn't too bad but those four results in hindsight are massive anomalies when you look at our home record between then and now.
