Jay Rodriguez ...

Out of position for me. I think he's been added to the squad as the long term replacement for Lambert but is being used wide on the left until we have a proper winger.

Agree with this. The other settling in factors are also relevant but it makes it doubly difficult for him to do so while being played out on the left. Shouldn't judge too much from his performance in yesterday's game but it's quite telling that we started with Guly up front and Rodriguez left rather than the other way round. Makes you wonder what'll happen if we do sign Ramirez and Phillips as planned, £7M seems like an awful lot for a club like us to spend on someone who may sit on the bench.

Maybe my eyes were deceiving me but I thought Jayrod started up top then switched positions with Guly.

I presume he means Charlie Austin. Well, that ship has sailed. Dave Merrington tells the story that he recommended Austin be looked at while he was still at Poole, but the club didn't go have a look. Swindon did ... and you know what happened next.

Well like the club would listen to Merrington about a young player !! I mean he only bought through Le Tissier, Shearer, the Wallaces.........

Is he starting?

That's what I've heard anyway, prob bull****..! But Gaston is out, Morgan is out, Clyne is out, Mayuka is touch and go, Cork is out - "apparently". So we're down to pretty much the bare bones. Bit worrying cause I don't think we can afford to lose that group, as we don't have equal replacements for them.

Guess we'll find out in about an hour or so!

now now Turkish, he wasn't so far out - was he? Morgan played, but he was supposed to be out for some time, so maybe he wasn't 100% - but he played anyway. The rest seemed an OK call.

ANYWAY.....this thread is supposed to be about Jay Rod...and he's on a learning curve....like everyone else in the squad who hasn't played in the Prem. before ...........

I didn't think he was that bad overall but desperately short of confidence and needs one to go in off his shin or backside to get up and running. Didn't know Mayuka was still short of full fitness so explains the reluctance to play him but should be featuring at West Ham if fully fit. It's the money we paid for J Rod - I can see good potential there but we needed a 2nd CB or LB more urgently and we didn't need a world-beating one either, solid would have done.

No worse than Lambert.

He's got great movement, but his touch let him down on a couple of occasions today. He'll come good.

Disagree. Lambert had a fairly off day but he at least created chances and looked like he could hold it up and cause problems. He was the only player we had who looked like he could hold his own against haangeland, who was immense against JRod and gave him absolutely nothing.

I thought he was poor and was gob smacked he played 90 mins. Well actually I thought he was ok first 20-30 mins but then poor. I was crying out for a straight swap for mayuka.

Totally agree. That Mayuka didn't come on for Puncheon was quite odd. That he didn't come on for JRod was a poor decision IMO; even Guly for JRod would have made more sense than hauling Lambert off.
