Strange.... Don't get me wrong, competition for places is key and Clyne needs cover sure, but I think Clyne is gonna just improve, and surprised the club is looking to strengthen in that position when we have other positions that need improvement. Mind you, with MP's style of play the full backs do get tired and exposed, maybe a rotation is needed, hmmm? I'm arguing with myself now, i will hut up.

He'd be brilliant, wouldn't he?

Shouldn't have any work permit problems either...

Touted as the next Zanetti but not sure where that would leave Clyne who is also a future star and was very good last year, his first in the PL

Think I'd rather see the 8 or 10m he would cost spent somewhere else but I suppose it does give us 3 very good full backs which equals no Danny Fox which equals very good news

Yeah, Dickson was never any good down ANY flank ;)

There that's more accurate :)

Point is we've had these can play either role types before and (apart from the mighty CL quality Paul Telfer) they have been a Jack of all Trades and completely sh1t at football

(Hell even the original Mr Versatile Rory Delap couldn't even manage a decent throw-in while he was here)

Haha true, I just had a bit of the MLG-itis... :)

Dont get me started on Telfer though.... ;)

Telfer was top quality. There's still a mark on the big screen at St Mary's from one of his shots or probably passes...... Worker ever so hard though.

We need MLG for this one.

How many of our players since say 2000 have stepped up from us to play in the CL? :)

Anyway my original point - I do not think we should be looking to buy players who are not specialist in either Defence or Midfield UNLES we are going to switch to wing back/Wigan 5-3-2 type formations this season (Which I REALLY cannot see happening)

(I can see a case for the forward 4 to be able to rotate between Attack & MF as that is our style, but really don't want to ever see a FB in MF again or vice versa, sufre Luke MAY graduate there al a Bale but Utility players? nah

If qualifying rounds is fine you have Anders Svensson.

And I actually think the useless piece of **** Mikael Nilsson might have played some for Panathinaikos....

I can't do an MLG, but for want of trying I'll say that Jim Magilton played in the UEFA Cup for Ipswich. :-)

Doesn't count.

WE played in the UEFA cup FFS...

Cue "still trying to dry out my shoes from that night quips from all and sundry"

PMSL at Nilsson - imagine the Ooh CL quality CB here is a You Tube if we were linked to an unknown MN now :)

Liverpool will buy a striker to replace him. Maybe Soldado, they and Spurs will want him, one or both will miss out and move on to other targets, including some of ours possibly. Likely Damiao and Osvaldo will move so there's plenty of merry go round left.

Are you forgetting that they already signed Iago Aspas as well as adding Danny Sturridge in January?

They already have Sturridge, Aspas, Borini who can play that central role and they have plenty of other attacks who drift in there, such as Sterling.

You really are deluded if you don't think Liverpool would try and sign another striker if Suarez was to leave.

not really. Real will (probably)buy Suarez and Reina has already been replaced.

Are Real going to spend more than £50 million to buy Suarez? That is what Liverpool seem to be saying, the rejected £40 million from Arsenal apparently and think Suarez should be going for Cavani money.

money is simply an accounting notion at Real, if they get 37 million euros for Higuain (which is a ridiculous sum anyway) they won't be happy until they've spent it. Their socios expêct them to spend at least 100 million € a season.
