Saints Pre Season Thread

Well, I know it's only 45 minutes against Bournemouth, but put the bed sheets through the mangle boys and girls.

Plenty on show there to cheer us up eh?

I have no worries about targett at left back. Looks a natural to me. Great left foot and spot on positioning.

Pelle and Tadic have shown enough to make me grin.

Isgrove has surprised me and Ramirez looks bang up for it.

Happy days.

From what I have seen of Pelle he looks a marked improvement on Lambert.

Very Similar in style but more effective, great support play but has the pace to join the attacks, very Mobile.

I Like him, Targett looks good too. Isgroves working hard and took his goal well.

Centre backs worry me a little, but I think its Inevitable we'll strengthen there. I'd bring in 2 CBs, another striker, a winger, a left back & a goalkeeper

A few nice bits of play but not enough chances created really. I'm a little frustrated by Isgrove. Nice movement and finish for the goal but doesn't seem to want to drive at the fullback. Not sure I agree that Ward-Prowse is playing particularly well.

Hoping Reed and McQueen get a decent run out.

Not sure about 4-3-3 with these players. No one really breaking up play before Cork came on. I think if we're gonna play Tadic and Ramirez along with someone with more pace like Isgrove, a 4-2-3-1 makes more sense.

Most of the incisive passing left the pitch with Ramirez and since Tadic went off the only player running at the fullback is Clyne.

True, though it left us much more open in the middle of the park. Who gives way if we play Ramirez? JWP if we have a combo of Wanyama and Cork/Davis to provide the steel (assuming Morgan is off)?

Just not sure I want Ramirez in there as one of the midfield three. Rather have him as the 10.

deffo a 433

looked good in most parts in the 1st half but actually created little (or nothing) for Pelle

looking to get it forward quicker and wider more

JWP looked good in a 3 in the middle

Fonte looked good

targett was OK

what we have though, is an appalling lack of depth. Lovren is as good as gone, I make that TWO CBs we need with a LB, GK, Wide player and ST

we have a huge amount of money to get that.

their subs tonight looked better than ours

Either way one of the CMs will have to give way if we play him in the hole in a 4-2-3-1. Assuming someone is brought in for role currently occupied by Isgrove, who would be your two in front of the defense?

What we learnt from tonight:

Tadic is pretty handy, works his arse off.

Lloyd Isgrove is very talented

Pelle has some great movement and touch.

We play with much more width.

Targett looks a prospect.

2nd half team a bit of a disorganised mess at times.

Mayuka is still pretty damn hopeless.

I'd agree with that

We looked a disorganised mess before the changes (actually we looked more solid with Cork in) - so your only concern is mayuka who's a strawman and trivial in the large scheme of things?

Part of the lacklustreness was definitely preseason meh - either way, not sure we can take as much out of it as you're claiming.

May do just that, ta for the advice. Assumed people would've been heading off on holiday Wednesday/yesterday as schools broke up midweek.

Uruguay's results compared to England's you mean?

not sure what your point is?

international football is very different to the premier league

hence why john bosejour looks brilliant for chile yet crap for wigan.

Bryan Ruiz was terrible for Fulham for years and excellent at the world cup

also why steven gerrard can drag liverpool to a Champions league win yet look average for england
