"Hitting the website next week" new kit next week?

In the meantime, old kits....

They're very optimistic pricing the 2020 FA cup 4th round half and half Saints/Tottenham scarf at £20.

Looking at this:

Didn’t we have something like that in the 2000’s ?

(no I’m not confusing it witn the 1976 candy bar stripes).

Looks a lot like one of the shirts we played in under Burley, c.2007. Or at least it did initially, after a couple of washes it was white T-shirt with some streaks of red and plastic flakes of what was once a flybe logo.

No doubt the club will sign off on something utterly ridiculous. Wouldn’t put it past them to change our kit to look like Spurs and have practically no red like a few years ago.

It would be a very SR thing to do.

I get Puma are the manufacturers, but these things still need signing off from the club.

I will never understand why clubs produce stupid kits that will never sell. Sure they get a bit of PR for 24 hours but they don’t make any sales. 😂

Noticed watching Brentford on TV the other day that their red and white striped shirts (Umbro) don't have the shite all red back.  Hopefully the kit design kindergarten can get this right for Saints this time around too:

The last time, I gave a grumpy "no!" only for someone to put up a nicer one right afterwards. I'd be confident neither the club nor their design agencies could come up with a thing as nice as what we have though.

Newcastle say it doesn't translate to a digital world. I quickly checked, a d the internet turns out to be capable of supporting pictures in lots of sizes and resolutions. So, I take it they mean that it's awkward to get sweat shop labour to create and put it onto shirts as cheaply.

They also said that although they love the crest (not enough to keep it, mind) "the symbol that represents us needs to be able to keep pace."

So, black and white stripes turning to red and dripping blood at the edge?

We’ll probably pay some design consultancy firm £246,000 to spend four months coming up with this.

Ooh. I didn't know you worked in design. Classy. 🙂

No, and it never will be. I very much like the unique shape of the emblem and how well it represents the city proper. To have it swallowed by the ultra-minimalism of the 21st century and replaced with a red circle would be a loss

I’ve never been a fan of the club crest. For me, it’s a bit cluttered and looks naff.

Up until a few years ago I was all for change. But it has been with us 51 years now, and above all I wouldn’t trust the Dickheads at our club to make it worse. So leave it.

Let’s just hope Rasmus wasn’t given a set of crayons or felt tips at Christmas or for his birthday.

This conversation has been had many times over the years. Some like the badge, some hate it, others in between.

Me, I quite like it. It’s cartoonish but it’s entirely unique and people know who it is when they see it. Show me a better version by mockup (and there is enough online AI that will do it) and I might change my mind. For now I’m perfectly happy with what we have.

Just like the city council did for the awful new welcome signs.

And no, we shouldn't change the badge.

How about this...? Connects to our first ever badge with the rose and the current one with the tree and water.

It's a very nice design but I'd also just keep ours the way it is in it's lovable goofiness. And we are certainly a goofy team right now.

Nice enough but modern badges require consistent colouring, and that isn’t that.

Plus I just prefer ours to that.

I'm not sure what you mean by "consistent colouring". It is a quick Chat GPT mock up, colours can be tweaked.

Consistent colouring means no colour grading. The one you posted has lots of shadowing and various gradients of colours. A badge these days needs to be solid blocks of colour, not all ranges of the spectrum.

Well done for having a go MLG. It’s just not for me, sorry. I think the unique shape of the Saints badge goes a long way.

£246k? This sort of ingenious marketing with the all red that will appeal the the Chinese market is worth 10 times that

Can you imagine us changing our badge when Sports Republic are in charge and calling the shots? Imagine the sort of disaster they'd come up with!

It would be unusual for a badge just to have a face in it. But Rasmus is Mr Football, so I don't think there would be many complaints.

We could have "If it's not broken, break it" in Latin going round the outside of it. 🙂

All a matter of taste, and opinion, but they look pretty good to me MLG. Agree with your later suggestion of adding 1885 rather than the stars.

But I wouldn't feel confident of our buffoons in charge overseeing the design on a change.

I like our badge but if it was being tweaked you could lose the tree and put in the two red roses from the Southampton city crest .

or a second idea would be to base the badge just around the halo and football/scarf, just have that with Southampton Fc in white letters on a black background underneath.

or day I say a third idea just have the football and halo as it is with Southampton. Fc underneath and a red and white circle around the whole thing.

Too much blue!

Well those old enough to remember would say not. Saints strip a good few years ago was the traditional red and white stripes with Blue shorts.

Back then fabric technology wasn't what it is today and as the season rolled through the shorts would get lighter and lighter with each wash, so it was decided to switch the shorts (or knickers as they were referred to on the programmes back then) to black as the dye held better. So you could say that the blue on that is a nod to the past, as for the gold text, Saints away colours were "old Gold" and black - bit like Wolves.

Anyway I wouldn't want to see our badge changed, its unmistakable, its unique, and I think that it has withstood the test of time.

New shirt sponsor next season. Not a gambling brand.

Doubt it - only applies to the Premier League, the EFL can carry on with gambling brands...

Strangely, they’re still trying to sell this year’s shirts for about £45 each on the online store. They’re claiming they’re on sale but honestly, who’s paying that for kit we’re never going to see again in 10 days time?

Clear out the popular sizes at a higher price, then launch a "Further Amazing Discounts" for whatever's left in 10 days?

Only 2xL left now in the men's home shirt. They'll track that, and when interest tails off reduce it, I guess.

They won't be doing a "Prices as low as our points total!" sale, as they'd make too much of a loss. 🙂
