"Interim manager Simon Rusk has confirmed Southampton will be without a number of key players when Arsenal visit St Mary's for the final game of the season on Sunday."

Oh no! Not our key players! Wherever would we be this season without them?!

🙂

I don't know how he can play his 5 at the back if not enough defenders are fit

THB injured

Janny B injured

KWP AWOL

I've heard ABK isn't interested again and won't feature

It just gets worse and worse.

Without our key players and 5 at the back, we might end up forced into a system that suits us with players hungrier to do well.

Disaster!

I reckon Bree Stephens, Wood as centre backs, or maybe Aribo again with Bree and Wellington full backs

First shot on target 72nd min

It will be 5 at the front, if we can find 5 goal scorers. If Arsenal turn up then 0-6 if not 0-0 then pitch invasion.

My worst memory of an Arsenal match was watching Gordon Strachan trying not to lose by too many defeat at Cardiff. I saw the thrash at Highbury earlier and thought maybe we’d give it a go so was pretty disappointed you might say ( through the beer haze) at our lack of ambition.

I sincerely hope we will ditch this 11 behind the ball don’t get into the opposition third and most of all no shots on target until the last 20 minutes tactic for this final EPL game.

This ought to be a statement match win lose or draw that next season we are going to be at them- whoever they are-at SMS. Attacking until we score then repeat. None of this these are better than us so let’s park the bus at home defeatist rubbish.

We weren't overly defensive, considering the quality of the opponent.

Saints had 41% possession, Saints had 8 corners to Arsenal's 4, Saints had 14 shots on goal to Arsenal's 12.

I hope we pass it around at the back , keeper to centre half to midfield back to centre half back to the goalkeeper over and over until we give it away and they score and repeat…..

I know that would make a certain manager very proud.

Saints hammered again and Hants to be hammered by their near neighbours.

Unfortunately Hants lost their 2 best players ; Abbas now at Notts (took 5 wickets against Hants!) and Vince who moved out the country  for security reasons , something about attacks on his house ??

Hopefully Arsenal will be on the beach already !!!

Hoping we escape with nothing worse than a 2-0 to end this travesty of a season. With the new guy in place, it will be interesting to see who's walking around and finishing the campaign with little to no urgency. The real work starts tomorrow.

Your memory is failing you. With goal line technology we'd have gone 1-1 in that game and taken it to extra time.

Ifs

If the ref had had any balls he’d have sent Claus off for a clear professional foul on Henry in the first minute and we’d have lost by 6.

Anyway … let’s hope we keep it vaguely respectable today, and finally draw this season to a close. We were down by early October so finally reaching an end that’s been inevitable for 8 months is a relief

Your example is subjective.

The Beattie header was objectively over the line and should have been a goal.

I cannot for the life of me remember a Beattie header crossing the line in that final. You’re not talking about the one with Ashley Cole on the far post?

The advantage of being on an early train to Southampton is I can't see any Arsenal fans (or Saints for that matter).  Doing a text message sweepstake with friends on the time of their first goal. They've seen our weaknesses so 7 minutes, straight down the middle..

I've just spoken to my brother about this and he seems to think my memory is failing me and I'm getting it mixed up with a different game. I'm sure there was an attempt in that game that looked over the line.

I've been told no Ramsdale or Dibling?

I think it's quite likely most of our players DONT want to play today, just want to pack their bags and get as far away from St Mary's as possible, let's just sing Will Still's red and white army for 90 mins and look forward

Good news lads, it's 4 at the back 😂😂😂😂

Where the fuck did Taylor come from. Would have rather played the lad Sanda from the last game.

Glad to see Robinson get a start.

I’ve seen little from him over several months to suggest he’ll be a loss either today or in the future. If he’s off I wish him well but given what happened when he left for Chelsea, the poor season he’s had and his tender years I can’t help but wonder if he’ll fall by the wayside and in years to come we’ll all be saying what might have been.

Probably the worst team I’ve seen. I’m going back to the days of Lloyd James, Wayne Thomas, Jermaine Wright etc, absolute banter line up. 🤣

Get your bets on lads!

Give it a rest.

Interesting to see no Stehpens, and no Dibbling.

I would be very pleased if most of  those starting today are still with us next season.

If it was up to me , I would make Fernades captain and build the team around him .

Stephens must have picked up a knock, no way he's been suddenly dropped for a fullback who hasn't played all season.

Much ribaldry in the pub.. black humour response to that line up. I don't think it's entirely in Rusk's hands: more having to scrape the bottom of the barrel..

You’re going to be severely disappointed. Fernandes will be the first to leave unfortunately.
