Gary O’Neils odds seem to have shortened…

Can we have the latest odds from someone as I am working in a place where you cannot get on better sites!

Nothing against the guy but Tonda Eckhart is NOT what we need NOW.

I honestly don't believe the club would be stupid enough to appoint him full time. We need a big presence, someone that will instantly demand respect and will have a decent track record already.

It would be very interesting to know which managers currently employed and not that are realistically in the frame because THEY have shown interest in the job, not managers like frank Lampard or Brendan Rogers who for the life of me i cannot imagine being the slightest bit interested.

I find that really depressing.

By the time you remove those who wouldn't touch us with a bargepole, and those I'd not touch with one, it's poor.

The Fan Advisory Board is something each club needs to have based on the football league charter, it has absolutely zero power and is a marketing piece for the club/league.

It's also fucking useless as these are the people that the club "consulted" on the god awful northam wall bollocks because they knew they'd get no pushback

It’s embarrassing really. I know the people involved in it will probably be very excited and think they’re important, like that dopey bird that used to be spouting off on twitter all the time when she was on the saints voice or whatever it was called back then but they’ve got as much power as a school prefect has on running a comprehensive

Gary O’Neil moved in a bit but what is Russ doing as favourite. I hate the way the club say nothing, don’t rule out anyone which they really should with some. So after a quite quick removal of Still, we have not followed it up quickly, so did not have anyone lined up. We never learn, mistake after mistake.

A bit strange O'Neil turning down Wolves. Did he pull out or did they? If he did, then I wonder what can we offer that Wolves can't?

It's completely embarrassing and plays to the egos of the poor sods on it. I actually think these things genuinely show the contempt that football clubs have for their fans, they think so little of us that they assume they can get away with a pat on the head and subdue the entire fanbase.

Which to be fair is probably actually true now, because gone are the days of the difficult cunts that held the club to account like we used to have with SISA.

Say what you like about Illingsworth, Perry etc. they gave a shit about Saints & Southampton and they did something about it even if it pissed off the club (which it often did) and risked them getting banned from the ground (which it sometimes did). This modern lot just suck up instead as if it'll somehow make them important/famous

I guess it's the difference between an almost impossible task at Wolves and another relegation and an almost impossible task with us where if he did string a few wins together to get into contention he would be seen as a miracle worker, Pompey links aside.

Hasenhuttl not on Southampton shortlist as search for new manager continues

Latest from Sky Sports News' Lyall Thomas and Mark McAdam:

Southampton are undergoing a thorough process to identify their next permanent head coach – led by sporting director Johannes Spors – but are not in a rush to make an appointment.

Spors, who is also the ownership group’s technical director, is drawing up a list of candidates and is believed to be looking towards his native Germany for preferred options.

Former Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl is not thought to be one of them, however, despite watching the team recently. He is understood to have been a guest of Bristol City boss Gerhard Struber for the Saints’ 3-1 defeat at Ashton Gate late last month.

A return for former boss Russell Martin, recently sacked by Rangers, is also unlikely, Sky Sports News understands, despite Martin retaining support from several first-team players who reached the Premier League under his guidance.

Saints’ U21s head coach Tonda Eckert is taking charge of the team on a temporary basis, and the club are looking to give him their full support in the interim period, hoping a positive upturn in results gives them time to make the right decision.

Eckert is being supported by former Saints player Adam Lallana, who would be interested in becoming a head coach but is deemed an unlikely option at this time, given his lack of experience in the role.

Southampton sacked Still after a third straight defeat against Preston, left them 21st in the Championship table. The club’s target is a swift return to the Premier League, but they are currently 10 points behind the play-off places.

Why should the club waste it's time telling people that MLT is not going to be manager? It would be really poor from for them to announce that 'there is no interest in appointing Russel Martin'. Better to say nothing. Do other clubs comment on managerial non appointments in advance of making an appointment? Fan's desperation for communication seems to be reaching new levels.

OK, so we haven't immediately appointed someone, but that's not unusual. Spors has said they are "actively interviewing people", so they may have  spent the last couple few weeks making enquiries and arranging those interviews. Getting the right person is more important than getting a person today.

I’d take Gary O’Neil. Forget about Pompey links, so many others like Ball, Channon, Crouch did as well. It’s not a barrier to success at saints. I think he’d bring us organised, hardworking, passionate performances which is what I’m craving

I'd rather they take their time and get it right this time to be honest.

Yeah I have little faith, but if they are going through interview process at the moment we're going to have to be a little more patient.

What do we gain by rushing the decision? I'd much rather they be thorough and get it right. A win last night and only Saturday's game before the international break so no need to push it through and not do our due diligence.

It takes time to get those powerpoint presentations ready to impress the board, you can't expect them to be ready in a couple of days! Those animations don't make themselves y'know!

They’ll take their sweet time and still get it completely wrong IMO. I’m sure they’re having lots of clever high level meetings, spreadsheets, data, the reinvention of football.

It’s obvious they’ve got someone lined up. He was on the touch line last night!😉

The impatient move would be to appoint tonka or Nivea boy so I’m going to stretch my patience a little longer.

It probably was her as she was in front of me in Tesco's just before that time, had a little peek in her basket to see what her and Russ like . Could see a couple of microwave meals, some champagne, oysters and some condoms.

She told the cashier that she was in a hurry as her boyfriend had an interview this afternoon and that they were hoping to celebrate him getting a new job tonight.

I do hope you don't mean the useless Lallana. I cannot think of one thing he has done since rejoining, and would be just the sort of person to undermine coaches in the vain hope that he might get the top job one day. Or do you mean Eckert? Or the linesman?

What, a new job at Tesco's? Well done Russell

What things that a 1st team coach does do you think there is evidence of for the public to see and tie down to a specific 1st team coach out of many?

To be honest, I am amazed at just how quickly football clubs appoint new managers. Forrest took one day to announce the last three managers. How on earth they (both parties) get lawyers to check the contracts so quickly is beyond me. I presume they were working on each for a period of time beforehand?

The Wolves job would have to be a real poison chalice for him to turn it down and then join us. The PL kudos and wages must far exceed what we can offer?

Getting the team they're coaching to play like a well coached team? Just a hunch ;)

For Spors to use the words "actively interviewing" to the FAB, you'd imagine that means they have spoken to at least one or two people/agents this week already, so we must have started the recruitment process at least a week ago or longer.

I think O'Neil read the room about a Wolves return. I didn't hear anything positive from fans, quite the opposite. I know if you work in football you need thick skin but maybe there's a limit.

Doesn't giving people who are inherently bad at making decisions more time to make decisions result in even worse decisions?

Decisions, decisions....
