I would happily take Gerrard. At least he has experience at the top level and a point to prove.   vs someone that’s played computer games in his bedroom

Whoever we get it has to be a case of them walking into the club and all the players being like 'I really want to play for this guy and really believe in his tactics'. You'd think being professional and giving your all every game should be a given, but it's obviously not as seen whenever a player is trying to force a move through to another team. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the players at the end of last season would much rather have moved on, but there's obviously a limit to how many players you can sell in one window so we're stuck with a bunch of players who are just phoning it in until the end of the season when they hope their agent can get them a move they'd wanted 12 months ago. Even players like Azaz and Fellows who've only just joined us may be working out an exit plan such is the toxic attitude the players have. You can get some hard line manager to try to bully them into working hard and doing what they should (wasn't that what Juric was supposed to do?) but the players have way too much power these days and can more quickly force them out than the manager can actually get them to do anything. You can fault Martin for his tactics, but one thing he very obviously did was come in and quickly convince the players that his way was the best. I think there was even an interview a few months after he left where one of the players said we'd have stayed up if he'd stayed, which as deluded as it is, shows how much they'd bought into his plan. You can get the best tactician in the world but if the players don't commit to doing what they say 100% then it won't work out. That may even be Will's problem is that the players just don't believe what he's saying.

All the managers appointed and sacked by Sport Republic seemed to have been picked up by other clubs relatively quickly, so despite their gross negligence the pay off figures shouldn't prevent affirmative action in terms of Will Still's P45.  So a case of how quickly the detached owner wants to act - I simply cannot see Still turning this around, if anything it's going to get worse, leaving us needing a miracle for top six.  It would be nice if the powers that be are told to ditch the blue sky thinking bollocks for the next appointment on pain of their own jobs on the Board.  Like a lot of others I think there are a number of candidates who would be able to get a decent and rapid tune out of this group, and even failing that provide some home truths and send a few rockets northwards.  For that reason I hope it's an ex-player with some genuine pedigree who can bring or attract coaches with similar attributes.  Saints always seem to do well with that type of appointment, and they won't buy the cuddle, cuddle, give it time, or scar tissue bullshit with this underachieving group.

I’m feeling a bit broken by all things Saints and Sports Republic at the moment, so, it really doesn’t matter who we think would fit because it’s extremely unlikely they will appoint that person.

Ralph. What a manager. He would be wise to steer clear of frauds like Sports Republic.

This is our problem, I doubt anyone decent would want to work under those clowns. Until we have a decent manager who has the ultimate say in who we sign then we will carry on downwards.

If we did sack him, I'd go for Tony Mowbray

Heaps of experience. Didn't work out at WBA back end of last season, granted, and missed the playoffs, but prior to that he was on a run of four straight 'hits' in the past decade I would say... Coventry, Blackburn, Sunderland, Birmingham all improved with him and missed him once he was gone

He is also liked and well-respected by fans of seemingly all of his former clubs and used to working with younger players, developing people and inheriting situations that need stabilising

The counter to that would be that his most recent job didn't go well in this division and he's been getting over a health scare with his cancer diagnosis. Then there is the fact that his brother Darren was sacked by Johannes Spors and would probably have a few words for his older brother on Sport Republic...

I like Tony Mowbray and he’d have been my choice before we appointed Martin. Solid manager in my view, who try’s to play attractive football.

But since then he’s had quite a serious health scare, and then his time at WBA didn’t go well.

Might still do a decent job but certainly wouldn’t fit the SR hipster laptop profile.

Might do after 14 mind... Next international break. He's really got to basically win all 4 of these more easy games... Because the 4 after the break are stinkers.

Indeed, proves that Spors is an even bigger wanker than we thought he was!

We have a very good squad and no doubt would pay our next manager one of the highest salaries in the league with a view to hopefully getting into the PL again. We're clearly one of the more attractive propositions in this division.

I can't get my head around the idea that somehow SR have let Still down, and not the other way around. Still literally said he needed decent wide players to play his system. We went out and signed Mads, Jelert, Fellows and Scienza. Who would we have signed if Still had the 'ultimate say'?

But again, the question is say Will Still is sacked tonight, who is SR’s next target?

Who do you see as a realistic target as manager?

Which manager is going to look at Saints and go “yep that basket case of a set up I can work with”?

One thing worse would be bringing Lego back.

Worst thing of all is that you wouldn’t put this past Spors and the other fuckwits running the club.

Here are the latest odds, not that they really mean anything at the moment, but a few names on here I've never heard of and a few I'd forgotten about.

I would think there are vanishingly few managers working today that think they are going to walk into any club and get the "ultimate say" on everything.

I think you're overplaying the basket case bit.

We've got a squad with some of the best players in the Championship in lots of positions.

And we'd pay well.

Hadn’t heard of either of them before that list went up but appointing  the current managers of Stevenage or Lincoln would be a very SR thing to do.

Not convinced anything will change until whoever decided to give stephens a contract extension, have Bazanu and McCarthy as GKs for the season and appoints mangers who play 5 at the back moves on. If we are going to sack Still appoint someone who is experienced in this league and has a strong personality and clear idea of how he wants to play and it’s not 5 at the back. Feels like although Martin has gone we are still playing the ‘Southampton way’ and that has to come from upstairs at the club.

Carrick is an interesting one. Experienced at this level and at one point, tip'd for jobs in the PL. On top of this, we'd have the players to suit his system I think. However, really tailed off at the end of his time at Boro (and look how they're doing now) and has been labled as having no plan B. A reactive rather than proactive manager.

A steady head, but I'm not sure someone who'd blow us away.

For me, I'd be looking at Carsely (if he wants it). Similar in respect of style to Martin, but much much better.

Carrick - perhaps still trading on his name as a player ?

Carsley - wouldn’t rule that out as he was at Brentford at one point, although we’re meant to believe Rasmus no longer has any input.

I always thought Carsley an obnoxious bastard  , so that and  the style being similar to Lego I hope we steer well clear.

Whilst they're similar in terms of playing out from the back, he's much more direct than Lego and has a track record of success to back him up. Personally, I think he's brilliant

This with spades. There is a very real lasting malaise within the club - possibly at all playing levels - which has subscribed to the view that recruitment of nice, well spoken lads who are capable of passing OK (usually backwards under pressure), but have suspect fitness so can’t play at pace, is the way to go and that therefore the system of slow build-up play is of paramount importance to suit the recruitment strategy. Every game for years under different Managers we’ve seen the evidence of this. It’s Pep-lite except even Pep got found out and has changed his system to allow long balls up to a big target man. It needs to be eradicated.

Then there’s the inability to coach systems of play that provide quick transitions out of defence to the forwards to attempt as much as possible to attack with fewer than 11 oppositions players behind the ball. This is where I think Still is slowly trying to make a difference, but is hamstrung by inconsistent defenders and the lack of a big CF.

Then there’s the suicidal reliance for 4-5 seasons on CF’s that are made of glass, relative midgets or just plain incapable. See above.

Perhaps Still is not the man, but my feeling is there’s too much wrong within the club to allow ANY Manager a fair crack of the whip and any change now will ultimately be another disaster in waiting. On the other hand, get the right CF Stewart replacement in for Still asap and wait until at least March before pulling the trigger.

Wagner looks the obvious candidate. Got history in this league. Got huddersfield promoted and kept them up one year. Led Norwich to the playoffs last year(whereupon they sacked him and are in the relegation zone)

Rosenoir wouldn’t be a bad shout for me.

Played a 4-2-3-1 with Hull and it was a strange decision to sack him after narrowly missing out on the playoffs. Thought they played some really good football with Carvalho and Philogene in the team.

Doing a cracking job at Strasbourg currently.

Another trendy hipster type as far as I’m concerned. Possibly should have done better with the loan players at his disposal at Hull.
