The EFL have set the tone. I'd expect the FA to follow suit in terms of relative punishment.

Yeah, unless there's stuff we don't know about then there won't be a decision to be made anyway.

I almost want to keep him as a 'fuck you' to the EFL, media and other cunts that have crucified the club for a misdemeanor of fairly average levels, in context.

We've been embarrassed and hanged, drawn and quartered for our offence, when the last club to do it got a fine.

Those culpable for the systemic spying should face the penalty from the FA, but banning him would be rather ridiculous given Bielsa wasn't (there were acting in good faith rules back then) and had given a whole fucking presentation on it to the world's media.

No one likes us? We don't care. I'm all for it.

Penalties for individuals will go ahead regardless of whether they remain employed by the club.

That's where the multi-club model comes in! Send him to our French friends over the channel in Valenciennes until the ban is over. Knew there were some positives to the SR group.

I hoping the Serbs starting fighting back. If we dont attack this and  just keep on cow towing the club financially could be under threat. I dont believe we did anything wrong and its painfull to see other supporters saying they are embarrased. Borough should be embarrased grassing us up

We need to adopt the classic 'us versus them' mentality... If we don't, we're in danger of self-flagellation and loathing to the point of collapse.

Would be a great result: keep Tonda, have a good summer transfer window, go into the new season with a together-as-one-fuck-you-all attitude and storm the league.

It's either that or a complete reset, which could go horribly wrong.

The self flagellation needs to stop. We’ve essentially been outwitted by a more savvy chairman with conflicts of interest all over the place vis a vis the EFL (conveniently ignored). We’ve been handed a potential death penalty for the equivalent of a speeding fine. Got to get over this asap and adopt a fuck you attitude next season.

My favourite analogy for it that I've seen is that we've had both our hands chopped off for being caught once in the act of petty theft.

Very mixed views on whether he should stay or go. Life has been better as a Saints fan since he has been in charge so if it was possible to keep him, I think I would.

How about a Stay or Go poll?

IMO, it's time to stop the chat that our punishment was disproportionate.  It's done and one of the best lawyers in the land couldn't stop it.

Time to move forward now.

We can move forward and still feel the punishment was disproportionate. If anything should just use it as motivation for next season.

I would go further. We have been scouting and were set up and made ourselves a soft target. We were clearly the best team in the league

On the contrary, I use a lot of the posts on here as compost in my garden.

He has to go.

Conversely, he is one of the main reasons we had something to be excited about at the tail end of the season.

This is Southampton, we are the kings of dawdling and being 'calm and relaxed' about every situation.

Personally, I'm not buying the ridiculously weak defence that he didn't know it was a rule. This sort of activity, with or without a rule, is considered grubby - let's be honest. It's considered a bit dishonest, not fair game. It's not the crime of the century, no, but it doesn't need a 'rule' written down to say it's a grubby activity to do.

Of course other clubs do it, there are loads of grubby people in the world of football. That doesn't mean it's fair game to do it. The problem with us is that we were so, so, so bad at it that it's backfired in the biggest possible way.

He is inexperienced, niave, I think he's another example of a 'young inexperienced' footballing person who has been thrown under the bus by SR in some respects, but he should still take responsibility for his actions as we didn't need to resort to those tactics.

Surely someone like Ben Garner would have known it's against the rules? Most of his career has been in the lower leagues, I can't believe he wasn't familiar with the rules.

Of course he would

Keep him. EVERY SINGLE CLUB cheats in one way or another. WWE from corners. financial shenanigans, spying, whatever. Football is not a sport anymore, it's just a dirty, dog eat dog business. So talk of integrity, or lack of it is laughable.

With or without spy gate he is the best manager we've had for a while. I really don't give a flying f*ck what other fans, old men exponentially creating global change with endless hours of hot air stating the bleeding' obvious (pondtits). BBC hacks, whoever think of us. He is our best chance to get somewhere.

For me, the only way we should lose him is if he gets an FA ban, then we won't have a choice.

I'm in the keep, if he wants to stay and the FA permit, camp. He made a mistake. On the plus side, he got our players out of their complacent, half-arsed stupor and got us up the table. Why would we get rid? We've been punished more than adequately. Why add to that?

The hate against tonda is turning my stomach a bit, if we ended up just getting a fine and the sanction didn’t go against us nobody would be saying a bad word against him .. because it hasn’t gone our way everyone wants him gone.

We only scraped into the playoffs because of the unbeaten run he took us on anyway without that we would still be in the champion next season anyway. Pressurising the club into sacking him cos you want blood is not the answer if you want results next season

From what we're hearing the players are livid. If we want results next season, we have to have players who are willing to work for the manager.

An FA sanction against him may remove him anyway. But the investigation will take time, leading to more uncertainty.

Where are we hearing this from? Has a player publicly stated they are livid with Tonda? They should perhaps remember they would have been nearer relegation than the play-offs without him. There was no guarantee that they would win against Hull. And, finally  no guarantee that some of them would have played in the Premier League had we got there.

Take this talk of player anger with a pinch of salt. Sure, some will want to leave, as they would have done if we had lost the final.

If Tonda thinks he did nothing wrong he can take EFL to court on is own.
