Saying that though spending big doesn't mean a hell of a lot with SR, it could just mean we over pay for players that don't improve the team. But we already have Downs! Who else could the amazing SR recruitment team possibly think we'd need? 🙂 1

S-Clarke Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago I note the George Long argument has cropped up again, in that a third choice keeper isn't meant to be better than the 1st or 2nd etc etc. A bunch of you are absolutely missing the point, once again - as you did in the summer, whereby it was proclaimed that 'Bazunu is fine for the Championship'. The original point from the summer still stands. We didn't need a third choice goalkeeper, that's the whole point. We needed/still need a 1st choice keeper. Then McCarthy/Bazunu become 2nd and 3rd choice. 18

However, it is clear we need a goalkeeper, a good commanding centre back, two full backs, one big unit in midfield and a big strong centre forward. We continue to be too small and weak all over the pitch. 2

Spending big with Sport Republic doesn’t even mean spending smartly. 😂

Gk is the main need. That and a striker. Archer might well be off as well as Downs, barely featured this season and struggled when he has (Bristol City). I suspect clubs will still want him and think Saints haven’t utilised him properly. Only time will tell. 3

He's probably the most like for like we have with Tom Fellows and if we are to flog him, it'll be for peanuts. 3
JohnnyShearer2.0 Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago It would be nice if Saints can find some rough around the edges striker from the lower leagues. Makama from Norwich, I know isn't great but being a big unit upfront he knew what to do against Saints. Must be time that SR finally get someone decent.

But with a world class number 1, and a very very good number 2, he doesn’t need to. You can’t level that at Saints. Bettenelli would comfortably be our number 1 if in our squad. Everyone before the season started knew our keepers would be weak, but SR did nothing about it. My point is why didn’t we get in a loan keeper/ buy a keeper who would be challenging for the number 1 shirt? Some healthy competition would not be amiss… 1

SylvianSylvian Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago Personally I’d love to see Edozie fit & firing again for us, perfect sub for a tiring Scienza & he has most full backs in this division on toast….

You have to ask why he appears to have been overlooked by two managers in a row this season. Putting it mildly, it indicates his heart isn’t in it.

Was very highly rated at Fulham but chose to walk away and sit on the bench as a second or third choice elsewhere for big money.

City also have Ortega kicking his heels in their squad. No.2 to Ederson for 3 seasons up to the summer when they signed Donnarumma, Trafford & Bettenelli. Played 13 PL games last season, plus 6 cup games and 2CL games. Like Bettenelli, he hasn't featured at all this season. Possible 1/2 season loan if City would cover most of the wages? westmidlandsaint Posted 44 minutes ago Posted 44 minutes ago JWP with the amount of fouls Scienza wins could be an interesting proposition. Agreed GK and ideally i'd like another CF (especially if Downs goes on loan) and a commanding experience CB in an ideal world
Badger Posted 9 minutes ago Posted 9 minutes ago Sentiment aside, where does JWP fit in to our midfield? Assuming Charles (who offers a bit more physicality) and Jander are fit ? If we go for a MF player I’d like it to be an DM to release both Charles and especially Jander who is more creative.

JohnS Posted just now Posted just now Pretty much halfway through the season & we are in Top 5 sides with most goals conceded - which is absolutely no surprise! Very much what we do over God knows how many seasons. Stats that are there for everyone to see - yet we seem to settle for terrible Goalkeepers & Central Defenders If any money is spent in January then this must be our top priority First & Foremost we have to be a side who is very hard to score against & for many years - we have been one of the easiest in every league we’ve been in
