macca155 Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago I guess Azaz will be most people's choice for MoTM, and deservedly so, but the quality of defending from Stephens, and sheer hard work from Downes, really made a difference. Since his handbags at Pompey, Flynn seems to have been regenerated into the footballer we thought we had. Excellent game from him. 21

Given how much of an upgrade he has been in the last few games, persisting with Manning in that position for so long was ridiculous. Wasn't he injured for a bit after showing well in a game? Or injured while he was out with a ban? 2
so22saint Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago That was my favourite win of the season. Strong side, formation that put us on the front foot, some excellent football and some gritty defending. Didn’t feel worried even after the subs 🎉 5
Dank Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago He scores on his arse, he scores on his aaaaarse, Flynn Downes only scores on his arse... 2
Forester Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago Don’t know why Stoke has a reputation as a poor away trip, I always enjoy going there and we have a good record. Excellent performances from Welington, THB, Stephens and Downes, and a couple of vital saves from Peretz (not that we realised from our view that the shot that hit the post was a save at the time). Stewart makes such a difference in terms of basics of link up play and occupies centre backs. Gives us an outlet when we are under pressure. If we are to make a late run to play offs he is vital in my view, whether or not he is scoring as he makes us a better team. History suggests we will need to win 10 or 11 of our remaining 16 games to make the play offs. Not impossible, but a long shot. 2

Today, we drove and parked right outside the ground today in the Holiday Inn car park which wasn't that clever as it took ages to get out. So, yes, there's better longer distance aways but today's team performance made it all worthwhile. Downes was excellent. Bree was so good I'm not sure it's the same guy that left to go out on loan. In fact, the whole back 4 is confident playing as a back 4. Fellow's runs were penetrating and Ross up front creates a solid presence. We didn't miss AA or Archer one iota. Finn Azaz also had a good game. Atmosphere was also better than usual. We can make those play-offs... 4

Micky Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago A very decent away day today, team were excellent. But by god the Bet365 was quiet, very, very quiet, I've definitely been in much noisier libraries...! 1

Mixedkebab Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago What a beautiful day and stress free solid performance. The only downside was the disgraceful Manning was brought on, if only him and Wood could be banished from the set up entirely it could make the squad reasonably likeable again. 2 1 1
St. Ciervo Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago I do believe I can predict a score or at least performance by just viewing the amount of pages on the forum. When there is a shit performance, the thread goes 25+ pages of commiseration. Today was highly enjoyable, and we are only on page 16. I think the derby brought these players closer together in the trenches. Let's keep this mean streak up and get to Wembley. Attack! 4 1
Saint_clark Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Just watching the extended highlights with Solent commentary, anyone else feel like Tessem is just shouting gibberish all the time?

It took me a while to warm to him but I think I prefer him to whispering Dave now. He can be quite critical but most of the time the stuff he points out is quite insightful. You're right that he's better at the analysis side rather than the passionate prose in the heat of the moment. Alongside Adam I quite like him. 7

Once you get used to Jo’s shouty, passionate style of co-commentary you realise his words are quite astute. He’s a decent analyst and while he obviously wants Saints to win he’s got an objectivity many ex-player commentators do not. 9

I think there’s more of a bond between these two than there was Adam and Dave. Jo Tessem took me a while to like but in terms of his and Adam Blackmore’s analysis they’ve been spot on for the last few years. They’ve said very much what the fans think the entire time. Not really sure why Adam Blackmore, or on a side note Alfie House gets a bad press, they’ve been scathing of Sport Republic and the team on their respective podcasts for a long, long time. 6
swedish dave Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago some sort of revenge (after the home fixture in August) where we had 65% possession, 18 shots but still managed to lose 1-2. We looked quite confident from the start and some good play from Fellows gave Azaz the easiest goal he'll ever score, although he'll feel upset - picking up a yellow card for diving - after being denied a stone-cold penalty. Not a good day for the ref. who also missed the blatant shirt-pulling that dragged THB down in the penalty area. A long-awaited goal for Flynn Downes, who scored the weirdest goal I've ever seen. Azaz was outstanding (without the company of Adam Armstrong) and most of the rest DAJFU. Stephens played a good game, as did Bree who showed how a real FB should play. An encouraging showing, but we'll need a few more gritty performances like this, if we are to stand any chance of qualifying for a play-off spot.

Much better than Guy Whittingham or the fella who does the Bournemouth games. All they ever do is say how good their teams are. Never any criticism of performances 1

I like Jo, sometimes he cant quite decide what he is opinion actually is, but more often than not he is insightful about what we're doing wrong (or right) on the pitch.

Chez Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Sorry but I am not a fan of Tessam on the radio. The whole idea of commentary is to describe the game to the listener but he struggles to get his words out time after time. His English is great, but it's not perfect. I think it's a brilliant job and I question whether there isnt another ex professional that is more articulate. If there isn't, no worries.

Tessem’s probably better suited to TV co-commentary rather than Radio where you really depend on the clarity and immediacy of every word. It’s primarily Blackmore though who describes the game to the listener…. or viewer. Tessem’s job surely is to add the special comments; analyse what’s happened and give the been there/done that expert ex-players viewpoint. English is not his first language and his voice is not easy on the ear….but, what he does say is often on the money and his analysis usually accurate. He certainly doesn’t have the golden tonsils of a Martin Tyler or a Jonathan Agnew, but he’s formed a good partnership with Blackmore and as an unlikely duo, they deliver a decent commentary without sounding like a couple of one eyed supporters at the Pub. 4
Lord Duckhunter Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago I like Dave Merrington as a bloke & respect what he did for the club, but he did come over like Alan Partridges grandad at times. Jo is ok, nothing more, but at least he’s an ex saint who played for the men’s team. God know who will follow him, probably that bloke who dances, a bird, or some influencer anyone under 50 won’t have heard of.….
