Kelvin Davis

One bit of good news. Radio Hampshire reporting that Kevin is to sign a new contract - administrator permitting.

As much as we hope he does, I can't see how he can until the takeover is complete? Surely Fry can't sanction this and even if he could, the Football Board is temporary and the Manager is temporary ( until someone tells him otherwise). The new owners would surely want to negotiate any new contracts and the new manager (if there is to be one) will want to pick his own players.

I'd prefer he didn't to be honest - too expensive by far I would expect - not too mention rubbish distribution, inability to deal with long or high balls into the box and he's been lobbed/chipped about 6 times this season

oh - he is a great shot stopper though!

let Bialkowski and Forecast fight it out for the number 1 shirt!

Fry is administrator of the PLC not the football club, surely the football club can still offer contracts, they may well be based on the club (as an assist) being bought from the PLC but all the same I cant see this being an issue when OFFERING the contract.

Did Davis not win Player of the Season? He's not called Super Kel for nothing you know! I proper hope we keep hold of him.

If Jones/Tointon (sp?) require Crouch's handout to pay the bills this month, where's the money to offer new contacts, for next season and beyond? They've already said they can't sell season tickets because there's a chance they will not be able to honour them. Surely it's the same with new player contracts?

Jeez we get a good loyal player wanting tio sign and we have fans thinkingof reasons why he shouldn't? Jeez feck me... ;-)

The guy is great and having such a loyal player will hopefully rub off on those we have left and accumalte from the lower leagues/part timers ;-)

I expect he has taken a big wage cut to stay.

Surely this is rubbish at this stage. Unless the new owners are that close to a deal that they are talking to the players.

There is just no one to sanction this at the club at present.

Would be good for Lg1 but wages, bonuses, all that kind of thing, just can't be discussed until the new owners are in. Unless he's playing for free...

I find that hard to believe.

I dont. I think he is the only player that really stood out for us last seaason. who else is there?

Surman? A Saint but could probably do with the cash we would get for him.

Lallana? Would probably do better elsewhere but dont feel he is going anywhere with us so the money would be a bigger benifit to us.

McGoldrick? Our top scorer I think but should have been given an award for the most wasted chances.

BWP? A name but the guy is in love with being offside so never really lived up to his name.

Wooton I suppose might be better suited to League 1 but I am not so sure Perry will be, Hatch and Gillett are not world beaters. Mule and Saga would be 90% of our wage limit.

I cant actually think of any of them I would bust a nut to try and keep other than KD?

Wow, even though I hoped he would do this I never expected is. Great to have a player at the club that does care a bit and even wants to stay when things turn sour.

On the other hand, he probably just likes the south coast and is afraid he'll end up in a hell-hole like Sunderland again if he doesn't sign with us. :D

Perhaps you didn't know that Football League rules require a team to field 11 players for the start of a match even in Division 3.

I must have misunderstood then when told that we start next season with minus 10

Agree with your sentiments that he got lobbed too many times (Forest home and away I think(?) as examples) but surely we'd be a much better team with then without him?! If true with the new contract then great news...although I fear a similar scenario as with Dyer last season, i.e. only giving him a new contract to get a transfer fee for him. Hope i'm wrong!

I spoke to a another player at a football presentation night last Saturday and he told me he was aso signing a new contract this week.

Tevez?

Jagielka?

Unlikly it was one of our players cause we might not have a club next week to sign for ;)

As much as i want Kelvin to stay, i don't think it's going to happen. He and Wotte are making all the right noises now, but when Mrs Davis sees what Leicester City (and other clubs) will be offering him compared to us i doubt she will be as keen for him to stay here. But we'll have to wait and see.

If Kelvin signed a new deal it would be a massive boost for us. He's been nothing short of superb this season and had it not been for his heroics we would have been relegated long before the close of the season.

I really, really hope he stays. When you get to his age, it's not all about the money. His family are settled, he enjoys living in the area and he's arguably been playing the best football of his career. One things for sure, if he does stay at Saints then the fans will absolutely love him and he'll make himself a bit of a legend IMO. Here's hoping anyway.

SUUUUUUPER, SUPER KELV! SUUUUUUPER, SUPER KELV! SUUUUUUPER, SUPER KELV! SUPER KELVIN DAVIS! :smt041

thats good news however how does one expect to sign a new contract when from the outside looks more likely the club will go out of business unless Kelvin knows more than we do?

Obviously didn't read the article then.

Sounds to me like a contract has been verbally agreed, and we're just waiting for a new owner.

Given our present situation, any potential new manager wouldn't have a lot of money to play with and certainly would have to sell someone, but if you're making out a team sheet, then Kelvin would be the first name - and not just because he's the keeper.

I'd be glad if he stays, my concern would be which of the other THREE goes ?

Surely the question is equally - who would you replace them with if they left? You are also underrating McGoldrick who has got genuine class when played in his right position.

As to the point of the thread Wotte is doing what he should do -making the assumption that we will start next season so he cannot sit around waiting to see if we get taken over. Davies is obviously considering a contract but it would be subject to us coming out of administration. If we don't, I suspect neither Kelvin nor anyone else will have contracts and we will have to find something else to do on Saturdays

Excellent news - I think I read his family love it here and he is very settled. I think he is a very genuine bloke who has a taken the club to his heart and is not a person to shrink from his duty as Captain to help repair the sinking ship.

Just hope there's a club left for him to ply his trade with...

Where has all this Leicester City bullsh!te came from?

As far as I am aware NP wasn't keen on having Kelv as his number 1 whilst he was here.

Kelv and his family seem very happy in Southampton. Remember he is 32 and has earned a hell of a lot of money in his career, a wage cut shouldn't be a problem imo.

bearing in mind we will (hopefully) be starting next season in League 1 on -10 points I think I would bust a gut to keep Davis, Saeijs, James, Mills, Lallana and Surman. I realise that opinjons will differ abtu these but rest assured if they leave the replacements WILL be worse.

that's right, despite him playing very well in the first half of the season Pearson extended Wright's loan period even after Davis' broken finger had recovered - this at a time when we could have done without spending yet more money on loanees.

Mind you he has had another good season and he will have been watched just like a lot of other soon to be out of contract players. Forrest need a keeper by the way.
