Kanu and Mokoena not here at ‪#Pompey‬. Ben Haim, Varney and Norris are. Triallists including Jon Harley also present. More later.

Wasn't it mentioned a few pages back that Kanu was having tests in hospital this week and had been excused training?

That's a huge blow for Birch. Even with his imposed cap of £5k there's no way he can afford that lot this month.

And so the sympathy starts...

@TonyHusbandBBC: Off to see how the #pompey squad is looking after another tough summer for club. How many training today will be there in August?

Another tough summer for the club? What about the tough summers that the creditors have had FFS?

and another tough summer for the UK tax payer... sickening really.

Still, great to see Ben Haim, Kitson, Varney and all the others back at training under the terms of their contracts of employment. Shame Kanu and Mokoena had to go straight to the treatment room/shed!

They have plenty of players, quit your bleating voldermort, youre sounding like you have caught the deluded pompey plague.

@pn_neil_allen I think Kanu has time off for a heart specialist appointment. Too easy to do it during six weeks off, I suppose! #Pompey

Well, standard NHS waiting time - not too bad really. Most clubs would have paid to go private...

Ah...

I've counted 20!!

I also see 20, not sure whether there are coaches included in that shot (no sign of the master magician). But still as Bournemouth found out when they had an embargo one of their coaches had to come out of retirement to help out on the playing side!

A glance at Google Earth shows there to be a thick conifer hedge like that at Wellington Sports Ground, along Stoneham Lane..

Pompey news reckons they are still training at Eastleigh

Seems that Sam Magri is still with them

Thought he had left

decent enough player at U 18 level

Looks like they are going all out with the "trying to make it appear everything is normal" plan. Looks at us with players and our normal practice area, etc. Will be interesting to know if this is a one off for the press or not.

Hah, a conspiracy theory! Mind you, it is pompey so it's worth imagining ridiculous and devious situations. I'd ask local residents to keep an eye on Farlington, Bransbury park, the Sailing Centre, King George V playing fields (oh, and possibly Moneyfields) for signs of unusual training activity...

Incidentally, all these players training doesn't mean that much. I'm over in the UK in August and if I can I'll try and get some training in with the local womens' side where aged parent lives. Won't be transferring though, just keeping myself fit..

IF they were still on the lookout for a buyer then I could understand "putting on a show" by paying to use their normal training area (must have had to pay upfront surely). However as they appear to be stuck between the devil (chinny) or the deep blue sea (liquidation) not sure why they would spend the money? Only guess I can come up with is to placate anyone at the league who might be getting worried about them competing.

Michael Appleton also looked to ease his goalkeeper shortage by using ex-England under-18 shot-stopper Simon Eastwood and Laurie Walker.

The 23-year-old Eastwood was most recently at Halifax Town, while Walker, 22, played for Kettering Town, when Pompey’s likely new first-team coach Ashley Westwood was caretaker boss.

So this is the calibre of player that UnAppy has been talking to, pleading with them to keep waiting for everything to be resolved and who have been reported as desperate to join.

All I can say is:

LOL

So the skates think that Rangers' players would leave one basket-case bankrupt club to join an even bigger basket-case bankrupt club?

Totally and utterly deluded, as usual.

He's made a total of 9 first team appearances for Rangers after being promoted to the 1st team squad after the first bunch of first teamers jumped ship shortly after they went into admin. I bet he's brilliant.

Meanwhile, we've just picked up the Rangers skipper.

WTFILN?

You can be sure they are up to something, they are always trying to spin and lie their way through the week. Still, great to see our favorite pompey players back out there... must be £200k per week minimum amoungst that lot today!

mr d. there is nothing wrong with investment, the Pompey problem has always been that the investment has been in the wrong things.

consider for a moment if we had our own training facilities, a ground capable of holding say 30,000 - just that last thing alone potentially [and yes I know it isnt guaranteed] raises the matchday revenues by 1/3rd. It would also signal a return to stability, engender pride in the club and provide a platform to move upwards.

Business finance isn't altruism, it never will be, but applied correctly it can take a moribund and failing corporation and inject new life into it, thus adding value and attracting yet more clout.

But there is a further observation, those investing in the trust and owning a share of the club will also want their 'say' in what happens - imagine we have a run of 5 losses. Do you think that there won't be calls for the manager to be sacked? for the team to be sacked?

I fear that your wish for prudence and local partners is as fanciful as Genii capital stepping in to buy us

God Bless the silly skates second paragraph. Im sorry but its too late for aspirations of owning an infrastructure, a modern 30k stadium and pride in your club... you had your chance when over half a billion pounds went through your club in 7 years and all you managed was to chuck a tarpaulin on a stand. More than half a billion and you still have fat in the pipes and a faulty clock!

If you want to see what could have been cast your attention a little west-wards, take it all in and maybe write down a few notes to get prepared for Moneyfields.

60442033.jpg

On another note it looks like they are lining up some more billionaires who like all these mystery players, are desperate for pompey... im sure the capital owners will want to be associated with Gadymack, Chainrai and Antonov!

Lotus F1 owner eyes €500m football deals

By Roger Blitz, Leisure Industries Correspondent

The owners of the Lotus F1 racing team are branching into the hazardous financial world of football by setting up an investment vehicle to spend as much as €500m on “the beautiful game”.

Gerard Lopez and Eric Lux, whose private equity fund Genii Capital acquired the old Renault F1 team in 2009, have set their sights on about five second-tier European clubs as well as a dozen football-related businesses such as player agencies, academies and media rights management companies

The vehicle will be managed by Genii’s sister company Mangrove Capital Partners, an early investor in Skype.

It has recruited Ferran Soriano and Marc Ingla, both of whom were senior executives at FC Barcelona during its triumphant run over recent years .

Despite the football industry’s capacity to burn through investors’ money, Genii has been attracted by the sport’s large revenues, global reach and the potential for better management and bigger profits at smaller clubs.

“[big-name clubs] are inherently risky and very difficult to turn around,” Mr Lopez said. “We would rather take a club of €40m turnover than one with high aspirations and huge debt.”

Genii is an unusual F1 team owner, as it admits its primary purpose is to use Grand Prix weekends as a networking opportunities to broker deals in real estate, energy, new media, technology and the automotive industry.

The Lotus team made pre-tax losses last year of £21m and lost its title sponsor. It has since signed new sponsorship deals with Unilever and Microsoft and Mr Lopez said the team was on track to break even.

The team is also competing strongly. Going into this weekend’s British Grand Prix, Lotus stands third in the constructor’s world championship standings.

Mr Lopez insisted the football investment vehicle would not become another networking platform. “This is not about inviting people to games,” he said. “This is about investing in businesses that support and service clubs and about buying clubs and making them profitable. They need to be just better managed.”

He declined to identify which clubs Mangrove would target or the size of the vehicle, although it is understood investors would be tapped for up to €500m.

To navigate Uefa’s restrictions on investors owning more than one club, Mangrove will only buy clubs in different leagues. A problem could still arise if their clubs were to become successful enough to compete against each other in Uefa competitions.

They've already fined him about a year's wages for being gullible enough to sign a PFC contract. I'm not sure there's a lot more they can squeeze out of the poor old chap.

Player ratings

We rate every Premiership and UEFA Champions League game throughout the season, but we want you to join in.

We provide our own skysports.com player ratings and we also give you the reader the opportunity to mark the stars.

Player ratings are featured on each match report that appears on the site during the season and you can also see a players average rating on their player profile.

The basic format we are following is to hand a 'star man' rating to one player on each team, followed by the rest - we also use the list below for a general guide on how to rate the players.

We must stress that these ratings are judged independently by the skysports.com journalist reporting on the game and have nothing to do with the Sky Sports television coverage. Hence, the official Sky Sports TV Man of the Match may sometimes differ from the top mark awarded on the site.

These are the standard rules we will be using:

10: Out of this world - very rare, exceptional performances only.

9: Excellent - Top-class display, probably the matchwinner.

8: Very Good - Outstanding, very influential.

7: Good - Impressive, eye-catching.

6: Average - No major faults, nothing overly impressive.

5: Below Average - Some faults, out-of-touch.

4: Poor - Many faults, easy to criticise.

Happy voting!

Old Izale's rating last season? 5.0.

In League Two.

He truly would be their saviour next seaon.

Looks like Crawley have outbid them...

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/7883231/

I would say the opposite and in true pompey style, they have probably outbid crawley.

There is no reason why he wouldn't sign now if it was Crawley and he says that he has been talking to them for a while and will join them next week............ It reeks of the blue few.

@TonyHusbandBBC: #pompey Michael Appleton told me players will not get every penny of every pound owed. If they think that they're getting "poor advice."

So, confirmation that they intend breaking the Football League's much cherished Football Creditors law then....

That'll be the Golden Share withheld then...surely...?
