doggface Posted 21 October, 2009 Share Posted 21 October, 2009 Gutted I've not been able to get to any games yet this season, so question to those who have attended regularly. Early days yes, but It's clear Ap has made some excellent signings this season. If you had to single out one signing that has impressed you the most so far, who would it be and why? James Posted 21 October, 2009 Share Posted 21 October, 2009 lambert, exactly what we have been missing for a number of seasons. Goals and assists aplently. Very Beattie esque and the best striker we've had since we sold Jones.
S-Clarke Posted 21 October, 2009 Share Posted 21 October, 2009 That's a really really hard question, because all of his signings have improved us in some way. You could single lambo out, because of what he brings to the side (Goals/ assists etc) ...but for me, if i was to choose, it would be hammond. He's added a grit, determination and a leadership into the middle which has been lacking for years...and without that blend in the middle, lambo will not be as effective. i felt he's driven us in some games this year - and he's only been here a few months. top top player imo. oxfordshire_saint Posted 21 October, 2009 Share Posted 21 October, 2009 Really difficult to choose 1. As mentioned, Hammond has been the central midfielder we've been crying out for and Lambert is now getting into the groove. I've been really impressed with Jaidi and Trotman, massive centrebacks scare the bejesus out of people in this league!

I've been really impressed with Jaidi and Trotman, massive centrebacks scare the bejesus out of people in this league! It's great that our most impressive players are right down the spine of the team though isn't it? if they all keep their levels of performances, we'll win almost every week IMO. Pard's has built this team on rock solid foundations, rather than just sand (like the last few years) - and it's beginning to show. I wouldn't be surprised to see us win 10 on the bounce eventually with this spine to the team.
Gordon Mockles Posted 21 October, 2009 Share Posted 21 October, 2009 I agree with all the above but also think Harding has been a revelation at left back...& free! (much like Jaidi & Murty - ironed out our defensive weaknesses, along with loaned Trotman, at little cost). Despite being ran ragged against Bristol (with no cover & Mellis leaving him totally unprotected), he's a hard working, tenacious little full back & one of my favoured players. A class above League One & brought it for free. I like having a scouting system once more.

RedAndWhite91 Posted 21 October, 2009 Share Posted 21 October, 2009 I have been impressed with every one of Pardew's signings - no exceptions. Each has been either a shrewd signing or a signal of intent, and none have let us down. If I was to single out one it would probably be Hammond, he was just what we were after, he is hard working and seems passionate, has great mental attributes (evident from his captaincy at Colchester) and is a proper midfielder. So far, spot on Pards.
eelpie Posted 21 October, 2009 Share Posted 21 October, 2009 All of those. But although not the most essential signing I have to single out Papa as being the addition that has caught my imagination most. He's giving us speed, width and penetration, and more attacking options. Saints have always been best when we have had fast wingers, and his arrival has been an important statement of intent that we are going to become an exciting force again
Matthew Le God Posted 21 October, 2009 Share Posted 21 October, 2009 (edited) For the first time in years(perhaps ever) its possible to make a good case for every signing Lambert or Papa Waigo are most "impressive" in terms of a statement signing. But I have also been impressed with all the others. Edited 21 October, 2009 by Matthew Le God
Rasiak-9- Posted 21 October, 2009 Share Posted 21 October, 2009 S'a nice question cos tbf to Pards its very hard to choose. Lambert / Hammond / Trotman / Jaidi is a great spine to the team and pretty much what we've always needed But.... I've gotta plump for Dan Harding, he's been consistent, put hard work in (even when we were struggling hard at the start of the season which is a real marker of a good player) and honestly I think he's probably playing below himself, as he's without a doubt a high-level c/ship player, yet doesn't have any sort of arrogance about that. Gives it his all, and has the talent and ability to get forward as well as keep his winger in his pocket. Top stuff Pards - Top stuff Dan
Professor Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 I don't include Antonio, Mellis, Trotman or Waigo as all are loans, but of them, Trotman and Waigo are making an impact, whist Antonio hasn't been here long enough to assess properly. Mellis is perhaps the one with most doubt. Of the signings, Connolly, Harding, Hammond, Jaidi, Lambert and Murty, all are excellent but I'd pick out Jaidi as having had the most impact in settling the CB problem and although Lambert is a star player I have a feeling tht Connolly could be absolutely exceptional, but it is early days to put him ahead of Ricky as yet. Professor Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 Opinion and Fact are entirely different things and should not be confused. Facts cannot be influenced or changed whereas Opinion is just an individual's impression. Opinions about future events are valid but they are not fact until or unless the event occurs. alpine_saint Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 Unfair to single one out. Pardew has built a good defence, identified a weakness up front and resolved it, and (although this took time) appears to have sorted midfield out. I'll go for a left-field selection and say Wally Downes.

Nexstar Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 Has done an excellent job when it comes to signing players and on the cheap (except Lambert). Would have to say that Harding and Trotman have made a solid defence whilst Hammond has become a rock in midfield and Lambert reliable upfront. View From The Top Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 I can't make my mind up! Harding/Hammond/Lambert have all been excellent signings. Harding, for free, is a blinding bit of business and he's a proper attacking full back. Hammond has been the sort of midfielder we've been missing for years. My player of the season so far. Lambert reminds me of Beattie and he's a better player than I thought he'd be.

Foxstone Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 In all fairness, Pards has not made a bad signing yet. All of his acquisitions have made an impact in one way or another. sussexsaint Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 I think it is massively impressive the quality he has brought in and in such a short space of time, it is an impossible questinto answer from my perspective as they have all added to the team, can't remember the last time I could say that , in the bad old days we always seemed to sign on a BOGOF from the swedes. Its easy to say Lambert because of the goals and the feelgood factor he brought, very impressaed with Hammond and Harding. krissyboy31 Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 This is a hard question to answer because all of his signings have improved their particular area of the field. Adam Lallana.....Getting him to stay and getting him to show his real talent for the side is to me the best signing.

Wotton Jaidi Perry Thomas Murty Connolly maybe too old or not fit enough to hack it. Trotman Waigio are loanees. Saint Samuel Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 The Lambert signing was massive and told the fans he's prepared to fork out to buy the best players in league one, so far he hasn't dissapointed, but value for money I would say Dan Harding has been most impressive, as he was free and has finally solved the problem at left back we've had for a while. Hammond has also shown he's a great signing at this level, but to be fair to Pardew all of his signings have made some sort of impact.
glkdcdes Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 It's one of Lambert, Hammond, Jaidi, Trotman, Connolly, Harding and Murty. Id agree with that. Under Weststand Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 Several good signings by AP difficult to pick 1 out, but he has addressed our obvious deficiencies. he has sorted the spine of the team out which we've all been saying needed doing for several years. He has addressed the height issue at the same time. Hammond seems to be the main stay in Midfield who ties the whole thing together so just for that reason Hammond gets my vote. Saint_Ash Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 No one going for the resigning of Davis? Would be a pain to replace him if he left for West Ham as he does the club captaincy roles and is probably up there as the best keeper in this league. We needed to score goals though so I would say the best signing was Lambert. Looking forward to seeing what Connolly can do in this league aswell though! forever a red and white Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 very difficult to pick so early in the seaon Jaidi, what we have been crying out for, for so long wins everything in the air, has plenty of premiership and pormotion experience and commands the back very well Hammond, does the simple things well adds bite, every team needs a plyer like him Lambert, like having an old Beattie back Harding, when was the last time we had a proper Left Back? Genk Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 Equal between Lambert & Hammond in my opinion. Lambert has brought that presence up front and a genuine danger with strength and alot of goals in him. However Hammond is a beaver in midfield. He has everything in him that you would look for in a CM. Both very impressive players for me, and hopefully will be here for a long time to come. CWD Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 If we're talking about impressive signings then I'd have to go for Harding. He is easily CCC standard and the best defensive LB we've had since Doddy imo, and AP has picked him up on a free! For 1mil Lambo had to be impressive to live up to the price tag - and for me he has. niceandfriendly Posted 22 October, 2009 Share Posted 22 October, 2009 Considering we lost John Rasiak Skacel Surman Saegis Euell BWP McGoldrick Because of how the team is playing, the only two I'd really welcome back out of that lazy lot are Surman and JP Saijs. That shows how fantastic Pardews signings have been. But imagine having JPS on the bench behind Jaidi and Trotman, with Perry and Thomas as emergency cover! That would be too good really, unfair on other teams perhaps. What a nice subject to be talking about though. It's very unusual. For me I'd say a toss up between Harding, Hammond and Lambert, because they filled positions that we have been lacking in for years. But then that's harsh on Jaidi, Trotman, Murty, Connelly (let's wait and see if he can stay fit, please please please) and Waigo!
