forever a red and white Posted 15 May, 2010 Share Posted 15 May, 2010 Shame to see a few of the players leave but inparticular Perry. Since he joined he has been fantastic for us. He was always steady on the pitch if a little past it. But in his interviews his attitude was always superb saying he wanted to prove himslef to be the best defender at the club. Lets hope the likes of Aaron Martin learnt something from him.
S-Clarke Posted 15 May, 2010 Share Posted 15 May, 2010 He's a cracking pro, i don't remember him having a bad game for us - even in the championship. He wasn't the quickest, or the most mobile anymore but his reading of the game was still premiership class. I wouldn't be surprised to see him retire now, wonder if he'd consider staying on as a coach?
Legod Third Coming Posted 15 May, 2010 Share Posted 15 May, 2010 Top top man and player. Would make an oustanding defensive coach - professional, timing, positioning, he's been a class act.
krissyboy31 Posted 15 May, 2010 Share Posted 15 May, 2010 Good luck to Chris. Always gave is all for the club but not likely to pay more than a bit part role (even less than this season), so if he wants to carry on with his career, it's probably for the best. Would still do a decent job for a L2 or Conference team for a couple of seasons.

krissyboy31 Posted 15 May, 2010 Share Posted 15 May, 2010 Luton ? I bet even he hopes he doesn't end up there TBH ! Probably right but that's who we signed him from, so I assume he lives reasonably local to them? Maybe he could be a marquee signing for Stevenage Borough? Arizona Posted 15 May, 2010 Share Posted 15 May, 2010 Can't really say it was a 'shame' to see him leave because he is just too old and we have better options now. Very greatful of the effort he has put into this club during his time here. Wont foget his MOTM performance at Reading last year when we won 2-1. WATERSIDEIFASAINT Posted 15 May, 2010 Share Posted 15 May, 2010 He is likely to go to AFC Wimbledon imo.All their fans want him and he goes to quite a few of their home games. He obviously has a strong affinity to Wimbledon.I know a few of their fans who were hoping we would release him.Thet are also hoping to sign Ben Thatcher. Don't think he will retire yet.

CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 15 May, 2010 Share Posted 15 May, 2010 There are two basic types of Center Back , those who relay more on pace or body strength to win the ball , or those who use their innate intelligence to read the play and 'head off' dangerous situations before they happen almost . Players such as Chris Perry or Claus Lundekvam for instance fall into the latter category , and I must say that is the type of defender I personally admire the most . Farewell Chris and thanks for your service to this club , the only thing I regret about your time here is that we didn't quite get to see you in your prime . John Boy Saint Posted 15 May, 2010 Share Posted 15 May, 2010 I brought a Wimbledon supporter to a game and he was so pleased to see Chris Perry, he was even more delighted to see that he still lived up to his nickname "The Rash" (for those who are curious "all over you like a ....."). Cheers for pulling on the Red & White Chris, you did it proud in my book. Good Luck

dronskisaint Posted 16 May, 2010 Share Posted 16 May, 2010 I wish him well & he goes with my thanks for his professionalism &, in addition to his reading of the game, his attitude & 100% effort. I'm glad he got the run out at Wembley...a fitting thank you from us I think.
ulstersaint Posted 16 May, 2010 Share Posted 16 May, 2010 Proper defender - unlike some of the rubbish centre halfs we have had in recent seasons - and he never let us down. But with Jaidi, Fonte, Seabourne and Martin there is no room or need for Perry or Lancashire. I wish Chris well.
Wade Garrett Posted 16 May, 2010 Share Posted 16 May, 2010 Very very good pro - wonder if he's got any coaching badges or even wants to go that way? Coaching badges? The only coaching badge he needs is the one that says he was a top pro for 20 years. Any idiot can get a coaching badge.
stthrobber Posted 16 May, 2010 Share Posted 16 May, 2010 Perry has been the consumate professional during his time with Saints. He hasn't let us down. He's been the experience that we needed, whenever he was called on. He leaves us with a winner's medal too. It's a shame that he has been released but no surprise, we need to look to the future and Perry will understand that his best days are long behind him. I wish him all the best

Chez Posted 16 May, 2010 Share Posted 16 May, 2010 As much as I admired his comitment, I was never a fan and felt his lack of height caused us a lot of problems. No coincidence that we conceded a lot of goals to hoof ball sides when he played. The difference since Jardi and Trottman (and then Fonte) came to the club is so obvious. That said I thought he did very well when called on this season especially when he had Jardi alongside him.
Saint Fen Posted 16 May, 2010 Share Posted 16 May, 2010 He's a cracking pro, i don't remember him having a bad game for us - even in the championship. He wasn't the quickest, or the most mobile anymore but his reading of the game was still premiership class. Got to agree with this, I think he was a brilliant signing on a free and was superb in helping us stay in the championship when we beat Sheff Utd. Never ever realised how good he was until he signed for us plus he was 35ish, would to have seen him play for us in his prime. He really can still do a really decent job for someone in this league (Probably a bottom half team), luckily we have a good selection of Centre halfs so there is no need for him now. Good Luck to him.
SaintRobbie Posted 17 May, 2010 Share Posted 17 May, 2010 One of the few during the final Low(e) year to really try and deliver. One of the few true professionals at this Club. Sad to see him go.

L1Minus10 Posted 19 May, 2010 Share Posted 19 May, 2010 Very good player and a shame he's leaving, one of the few to give a **** in the latest relegation season and Jan the Arsehole left himout and played Ollie Lancashire instead. Even now I'd have him just behind Fonte and Jaidi in the pecking order. He's still better than Seaborne or Martin... but they are the future and will improve and it's the right decision to let Perry go. Delighted he got on the pitch in the JPT final. What a player he was in his Wimbledon days and he deserved to get an England cap at one time.

Albert Tatlock Posted 19 May, 2010 Share Posted 19 May, 2010 Real shame hes been released, reminds me of Chris Baird, also he had a fantastic spring which made up for his lack of height.Chipped in with a goal aswell.

That said I thought he did very well when called on this season especially when he had Jardi alongside him. But his man marking was so effective, i watched him and admired at times his ability to win so many balls with his lack of height. He did get caught out occasionally, as he obviously would, however he did so well at times and at his age. He probably has a lot to give in a coaching role, IMO. But we did the right thing, if we are looking to move forward we have no time for ageing stop gaps, no offence meant chris.
LaptopSaint Posted 20 May, 2010 Share Posted 20 May, 2010 If it hadn't been for various parts of Chris Perry's body getting in the way at the last minute, we'd have lost that men vs boys fa cup tie at home to Man Utd about 8-0. Thanks, Chris, and good luck.
