Booing the team after 1 game

SET

If someone wants to boo, then that's their choice. I didn't but can understand why some did. It looked like a backward step from last season, AP looks ambivilent and there was no real energy in the performance. On what is supposed to be the grand season of achievement, it looks sadly like a recipe for a long hard winter of mediocrity through a lack of depth to the squad.

I think its a reaction to the hyped expectations the press and web sites have of Saints being title favs @ 13/5. If you went to todays game thinking it will be a tile winning season (where you cant lose to many games especialy vs a team we had today) and watched what was on display you would Boo, bang your head on the concreate steps, drink 5 pints very very quickly to forget the game. I certainly couldnt belive what I saw so maybe the Boo Boys watched something worth Booing for. It wasnt that different to the England games. Too much expectation on teams that are not as good as we think.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Booing

Booing is an act of showing displeasure for someone or something, generally an entertainer, by loudly yelling boo (and holding the "oo" sound) or making other noises of disparagement, such as hissing. People may make hand signs at the entertainer, such as the thumbs down sign. If spectators particularly dislike the performance they may also accompany booing by throwing objects (traditionally rotten fruit) onstage, though the objects may not be meant to physically hurt the performer.

Ididn't boo, though I can understand why some did. I paid good money for a ST, upfront and in expectance for what our club advertised would be a fantastic season. Today was anything but.

As for the come on you reds dig... as the Northam is the only stand that manages to muster up some vocal support for the team (albeit an appaling attempt today).

There is no excusing the fact that today was poor. Ok, we were without Lambert... but were we not talking of winning the league?

Is it really any wonder, seeing as 50% of this board were metaphorically booing the team BEFORE the first game?

Bloody must-have-everything-perfect-now-or-I'm-making-a-complaint generation.

Rubbish, we've spent a season faffing about in preparation for this season and our pre season and opening game have been poor. It's not good enough.

Sums up that 90% of our fan base are utter, utter retards.

I would have boo'd them and make no apology for it. Not good enough by a country mile and they need to know this in no uncertain terms.

Go figure...

I know it's a cliche but it's only the first game, you cannot judge the team on this, once Plymouth scored there goal all 11 of their players got behind the ball and made it bloody hard to get through, give it another 3 or 4 games and if the results have not gone in our favour then yes start the witch hunt, but after one game those that boo'd are complete cants!

People were told that pre-season didnt matter and hold the witch-hunt until the first game.

People were told that AP is being canny in the transfer marked and hold the condemnation until the end of August. Today you saw the product of that, the reward for their patience.

People can do whatever they want. I didn't boo, but if people pay £391 to watch that dross over a season (including myself) they can vent their feelings however they want. Someone who boo's is not a disgrace, and 95% of people who do so, afterwards probably say, 'I shouldn't have done that' but in the heat of the moment, things happen that we all wish to forget. Somebody who wishes to divide and label part of his fellow fan base is a self-righteous 'disgrace'.

What is this about booing at the end of a match being a disgrace? I can just about understand labelling any booing during the match as disgraceful, but once the final whistle has gone?

And why does it matter that it was the first match? Or is the received wisdom that you can boo, but only after 4 or 5 consecutive defeats?

Why so much hate towards those that booed? Just for the record, i booed as i was totally ****ed off with the performance. Am i not entitled to my opinion? As some have said previously, they've had months of preparation. Last year some pointed to lack of pre-season as an excuse. Well they certainly can't do that this time round. There are absolutely no excuses and today was extremely worrying. The players need to know that that kind of performance isn't good enough and fingers crossed, they got the message.

If it was you, you're a disgrace

I don't agree.

The supposed link between constant encouragement, with no criticism, and better performance has never been proved. if the team play sh1t they should be bloody booed, although not during the game.

I booed and I am entitled having paid out for my season ticket and wathcing that rubbish. If you went to a show and it was crap you would boo and it might make them realise they have to play better next time or it may make pardew or cortese, whoever it is who signs players realise we need a new centre forward, centre mid and winger to kickstart our season.

I booed, and yet I still think we will go up. There was no excuse for that second half performance after looking so strong in the first.

My sentiments exactly.

You can call me a disgrace all you like but I refuse to blindly cheer everything we do and just hope that everything's ok. If we're not good enough, the situation needs to be addressed.

Either Saints are a wonder team with a crap manager or they have a brilliant manager but the team is crap. That's the only two explanations of today's abysmal performance. If you were booing who were you booing?

For my money the team looked totally disinterested today like they couldn't give a toss whatever the result. If so looks like Pards has lost his authority which could be because the team sense he's only a couple more defeats away from being fired or walking.

I'll wager that the next time we all troop up to SMS for a home league game he'll be history and we'll have some bloke called Angelino Spaghetti or some-such running the show.

I heard Spaghetti was a possibility too, what was your sauce?

We need to bring back scantily-clad, large-chested dancing girls before KO and at the HT interval. And at the final whistle win, lose or draw. Infact - have them serving behind the concourse bars & pie stalls too. I wouldn't care if we lost then. Am I a dirty old perv?

Sounds more like you need to boo-hoo rather than boo. Have a lovely evening.

This was a p*ss poor start to what I am led to believe on here is a nailed on promotion season. This team cannot deliver that.

I am not surprised some people sussed that out and booed.

Of course Alpine expected to go the whole season without losing didn't you Alpine?, you tedious miserable twit.

We dominated the game for all but ten minutes. Why anyone would boo that is beyond me. Dissapointed yes, but booing should be used when the side has given up or not bothered. I thought Saints fans were better than that.
