Zoltan Liptak

I remember him well, we used him as a 3rd centre back when trying to hang on to results. He wore #41, and was the worst footballer I've ever seen, and I include Calum Davenport in that. Barely able to stand up when he ran with the ball on the few occasions he got it, won some headers, not many considering his height.

But anyway, not really the time...

Played well.

Though at saints he was in the Bambi on ice club with Lancadire and the one man relegation squad that was callum davenport.

gerrard proved just what he brings to a team if played the right way aswell, and as per usual grabs the game by the scruff of the neck and gets the job done. Clearly the most poorly used england player of all time, and one that would have won us games on his own.

Nice to see Capello finally realised that 442 is a worn out pile o crap.

I seem to remember him being brought on and shoved up front because of his height when we were losing yet another game.

Useless player.

He really wasn't. You might be thinking of someone else, but he was brilliant in 6 games for us before he got recalled by his parent club.

2 mins against Preston in 3-1 win

2 mins against Watford 2-2

10 mins against Charlton 3-2 loss

6 mins against Brum in 1-0 loss

1 min against Ipswich 3-0 win

1 min against Cardif 1-0 win

1 min against Palace 1-0 win

He was crap, usually either brought him on and played five at the back or to lump up forward. One of the worst footballing defenders I've ever seen.

Possibly one of the best win percentages in a Southampton shirt lol

Well he certainly looks like HCDAJFU now. Apart from Fonte he looks better than anybody we've got. I do remember him but he never had a real chance to play for us however he played for the Hungarian champions I believe but wanted to play in England.

So you're saying he was the worst footballing defender you have ever seen based on 23 mins of play where he was played out of position at the tail end of matches where we were not playing our usual tactics.

I watched him play for the reserves several times. Also I said one of the worst not the worst.

Hah, no, I think YOU'RE thinking of someone else. He was exactly the talentless BUT TALL, SO VERY TALL donkey everyone else has said he is.

He was utter utter pants. Nice to see my recall of him as being a lanky bloke who was sent on to defend leads by heading the ball away is accurate though - as it was a terrible season for us I was shocked we'd won so many games.

And Gasmi is 500% a better football, I actually saw him show skill on the ball and beat people. The Ted Bates Statue was more mobile and probably a better header of the ball than Liptak at Saints, for that matter.

Definitely better than what i saw of Pekhart and that was when he was thrown upfront.

I thought Pekhart had some potential in his first couple of games, then he got shunted out wide to accommodate McGoldrick (FFS) and he tangibly stopped giving a toss.

4 wins, 1 draw, 2 defeats - pretty good!;)

I'm fairly sure i'm remembering him as the right bloke, and to be honest the fact he's now playing international football (and he looked more than competent V England IMO) kind of ruins the "he is sh*t" comments.

Erm, I'm starting to think you don't really understand this football thing. He's playing for HUNGARY. They are 63rd ranked in the World, immediately below the powerhouses of Benin. They were good in the 1950s, and the rest of the world has overtaken them since. Plus it was his debut, in a friendly match, and he was substituted after about 60 minutes.

None of these things say "great player" or even "great performance" to me. Plus, I've seen him try to play football at St Mary's a few times with my own eyes, and he was crap. Affected play more than Pulis to be fair though.

As a comparison, Northern Ireland are 61st in the world and they fielded Ryan McGivern in their defence, who doesn't even have a squad number at Man City (who have about 50 players with numbers at the moment).

I wonder if either would get in the current Saints side ?

Perhaps not brilliant, but far better than anything else we had at the time.

Better than Jp Saijis? I don't think so. Hell even Perry was far better.

He wasn't re called, we sacked him off because we went into admin and he could barely get a game.

I remember that wonder goal he scored from about 30 yards during a midweek game. Who was that against? Someone that plays in blue, if I recall correctly?

WILMA!

Unless you are talking about a reserve game then you've got the wrong man. Zoltan Liptak didn't score a single goal for Saints in the 23 minutes of football he played for us.

Jan-Paul Saeijs did however score a header and a 30-yard thunderbolt free-kick at the same time Liptak was with us against Watford. HTH.
