Stepgar Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 what the hell has happened to our team ? I know we have not replaced the pace from last term but we are about the tenth of the team we were last season. We have completely lost our confidence. NA has got a hell of job to hand. Loans are going to be essential this season that for sure. A theory could be too many people know they are going to start so the energy just is not there - complacency? The Kraken Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 Pardew makes a convenient scapegoat I guess. I think our current malaise is the fault of everyone at the club. Pardew for overseeing a very sub-standard pre-season and early season. Questions asked about Cortese not allowing the manager to bring in players he identified. Fitness/Sports Science staff not doing their job and leaving us with a clearly unfit squad. Players shirking responsibility and not stepping up to the plate as favourites. If Adkins didn't know what a tough task he has, he does now. Major surgery required; we're not scoring any more and are leaking goals at the other end. Does it need pointing out to you every time that almost everyone agreed in the summer that we were short of 3 players? Blaming Pardew is far too easy; it's perfectly feasible (as has been posted by others) that he identified the players he wanted and was denied them. You do make some good points, although i feel they were following the advise of medical guys on Lallana's injury. but on the other points...How they've managed to make such a screwed up start of such a crucial season, after keeping the core of the team together is a bloody disgrace. We went into this season seriously short of class and firepower and it is showing. All very true, but only gives half the story. This group of players should still be capable of putting a set of results together; they proved last year they're good enough and are (still) massively underperforming. They are shirking responsibility; too many excuses, too much talking themselves up on the OS and not delivering on the pitch. Adkins needs to bring in the 3 players we're still short of (CM, RM, CF) and give the rest of them a bloody good kick up the arse; it's shape up or ship out, no time for passengers. stknowle Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 The difference is this season we are the giants of the league, the boys with the financial muscle. This season we have justifiable reasons to be optimistic and expectant of success, feelings born of the fact we have a side made up of expensive (at this level) footballers turning out against opponents whose collective worth (supposedly) is less than the left toe of our worst player. And yet we are served up this frightening gash.
georgeweahscousin Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 We always seem to be the better team in the first half. .comsaint Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 If we make the play-offs this season - I will be absolutely amazed - despite it only being mid-september still. We badly miss Lallana - and Barnard's threat in front of goal. But the most incredible lacking feature this season from last seems to be no creativity whatsoever - none. The strikers are getting little or no service - and the midfield are creating bugger all - zilch. I wish Mr Adkins all the very best & desperately hope he succeeds. But on this showing; it'll take a miracle worker to reach them there play-offs!

What a total shambles. How can a team that was generally so good in the 2nd half of last season be so pi** poor this season. The players should be ashamed of themselves. No doubt we will go and win at Sheff Wed Saturday week just as everyone has written off the season as that is typical Saints.
Katalinic Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 Couldn't have put it better myself .... So totally F****n true !!! We never win with a new manager, we always lose against an opponent with a new manager. If an opposing player is on 99 goals I guarantee they will score against us, if an opposing player hasn't scored for 20 years I guarantee they will score against us. We always concede goals against players who used to play for us and those with ridiculous surnames - Akinbiyi etc etc. It has become part of the Saints' Law. 1976_Child Posted 15 September, 2010 Share Posted 15 September, 2010 no papa, no antonio sums it up. this team of ours is lacking something. there is no catalyst. every team needs a spark. Look at how Albion fared at the w/e with Lua-lua and his magic jumping summersault. Razz-ma-tazz, call it arrogant or what ever but it lifts the whole team. When Papa was introduced to us last season, before he had his license he came out wearing a sharp suit, ran over to the Northam and signed a few kids' programs and then did his little African Hunter dance. You just knew that he was going to be a spark both on and off the field. Sparks like that need to be well shepherded so as to not spike the dough, but with out that yeast the dough never becomes the bread. We need sparkle and a bit of arrogance. Lambert is not there, he is good but not a natural razz-ma-tazz player. He is solid, as is Lalana, but we need real sparkle.
