Colinjb Posted 19 October, 2010 Share Posted 19 October, 2010 Why? He'll never get any game time here. Why? Our benchwarmers get games in the championship and we remain in the bottom half of league 1. That doesn't annoy you? It just doesn't make sense. Smirking_Saint Posted 19 October, 2010 Share Posted 19 October, 2010 Calm down people, he is never going to get a game ahead of Dickson or Harding. We also have an array of left sided midfielders. It is a good move for the lad, and TBH if he join them for a decent fee or even a future % fee i would be happy. Just because he gets into a team above us in the league structure does not mean he will fit in here, Varney left Derby on a free and is playing very well for Blackpool but at the time i expect the majority of Derby fans did not see a future for him there. I really can't see the issue with Gillett and Mills moving on and perhaps going to a higher placed team, if they don't fit they don't fit.

doddisalegend Posted 19 October, 2010 Share Posted 19 October, 2010 Do you rate him above Harding or Dickson? I don't, so he can go and try himself in the championship if he wants. Yes I do. Every time I saw Mills at LB standing in for Harding last year he did well. He even kept Harding out of the team for a while too. So far Dickson has done nothing to impress me the few times I've seen him play. Ok Mills didn't look great when he was bought on to replace OXO by Wilkins but he was playing out of postion. You only drop players if they're performing badly, Harding isn't, and has arguably been better than Mills over the last season. Deary me... voteforpedro Posted 20 October, 2010 Share Posted 20 October, 2010 i might be wrong here, but was mills not player of the season when he went on loan to s****horpe in their promotion season? NA managed them back then, he must think a lot of mills... so to let him go out on loan in the division above he must think our current LB/ LMs have even more quality. He surely knows what mills has to offer so i dont think he'll just let him slip away on the cheap.

Saint Mikey Posted 20 October, 2010 Share Posted 20 October, 2010 If we're loaning out fringe players to a side above us, I think it just highlights the strength of our squad (particularly in defence). He's never going to start ahead of Harding and Dickson, although I think he is decent player with a decent (but not amazing) pro career ahead of him. Unfortunately, this also only highlights how poor our current league position is. Certainly in comparison to teams like B'mouth and Brighton, who've spent a fraction of what we have in fees and wages. On the flip-side, it is also a cause for optimism - I'm hoping that NA can consistently get the best out of this group of players. We should have no problem get promoted if he does... Block 5 Posted 20 October, 2010 Share Posted 20 October, 2010 I have to state clearly that at no point have I ever been vaguely impressed by Gillett. He was a very tenacious player when he was here and was putting in 100% effort when everybody else looked like they couldn't be bothered. Perhaps he wasn't the most skilled player but our skilled players weren't turning up.

Toadhall Saint Posted 20 October, 2010 Share Posted 20 October, 2010 It is an emergency loan and will be good for Fish and hopefully for us as well. VectisSaint Posted 20 October, 2010 Share Posted 20 October, 2010 Mills is straight into the starting 11 tonight That would be right, thats why it is an emergency loan. You have an emergency loan because you do not have any available players in the position due to injuries or whatever.
saint1977 Posted 20 October, 2010 Share Posted 20 October, 2010 Mills is a good player but so are Dickson and Harding. We are over subscribed for good left backs but are desperately short of pacy wide players (Puncheon doesn't count), and central midfielders. If we can get say £250k in January for Mills (plus a healthy sell on clause), we can use that towards buying Ryan Harley from Exeter (out of contract at the end of the season) who is miles better than any of our midfielders bar Lallana. In fact having Harley and Lallana in the same XI is a mouthwatering prospect. Hammond and Gobern can go to Exeter as part-ex as well although we'd probably need to sub some of Hammond's wages although after yet another shocking performance by Hammond at Huddersfield it would be well worth it. PNE might let Chaplow go on a nominal as well so we'd have Chaplow, Morgan and Harley - nice.

Smirking_Saint Posted 20 October, 2010 Share Posted 20 October, 2010 If you think we will get rid of Hammond you are incredinly deluded. I agree, we won't but i also agree that he is one of our weakest first 11 players. I don't understand the animosity about Dickson either, i quite like him, when he has played he has looked direct and has a good cross on him. I can only imagine its because he hasn't had much game time, but then it shows Hardings character that he cannot be shifted from the team.
saintjay77 Posted 20 October, 2010 Share Posted 20 October, 2010 It's still puzzling that a player who can't get into our team which at the mo is an average L1 team. Gets taken off to the league above and goes straight into there squad ahead of any other options they could shoe horn in. He is a player that I hope will make it with us so on that basis I hope he gets some game time and comes back a stronger player for us. I always thought it was odd that we went after so many left sided players which seem to have pushed mills back down the pecking order.

Gets taken off to the league above and goes straight into there squad ahead of any other options they could shoe horn in. It is an emergency loan, they don't have any players they can shoe-horn in. On their bench last night they had players who have serious injuries, Lockwood could not get his boot on, they were afraid he had broken his toe. They have a catalogue of injuries, and a very small squad. This is the purpose of an emergency loan, it doesn't say anything about the quality of the player, just says they would have played short or played a very inexperienced youngster if the loan deal had not happened. The most you can say is that Mills was probably the best option that was available in an emergency. Unless he gets injured its good news all around, he gets experience which may come in handy when he comes back in 4 weeks time.
